  • A thing of beauty.

  • when was this?

  • Nick Lowe -- so many ways, through so many artists, he touched me

  • Just so elegantly played -- Mr Costello's harmonies, Mr Lowe's voice and Mr James Burton's amazing guitar playing. Thanks for uploading.

  • actually, nick did the original with brinsley schwarz

  • after John Lennon And Paul Mcartney This was the next fantastic duo, Thank you England

  • I used to stand in line with 200-300 others way out west London in the mid-70's, trying to get in to see Elvis, never got in. Brilliant. Him and Nick Lowe, the best!

  • I wonder what year this is from? That is the weirdest hairdo.

  • beautiful.....for those scratching their heads, James Burton is guitar royalty. Was on all Rick Nelsons early records and later with Elvis at live shows among other things...

  • @tjbeagen james burton also played on Gram Parson's two solo records! And then he some stuff with John Denver I believe

  • actually i have always thought of this song as something to remember while i hunt terrorists so i can sing it to them before i detain them for the proper authoritys to arrive so they can take them to guanatnamo bay in cuba where they will eventually divulge secrets whoc will continue to save the lifes of millions of children.

  • @pbrick6301 You Rock !

  • THESE GUYS WORKED TOGETHER AND EACH MADE IT ON HIS OWN.

  • James Burton on lead ? Great job!

  • By FAR--my favorite version of this song!!! You can understand each word, and each word deserves to be heard/understood/acknowledged. Absolutely exquisite!!! Thank You, pokopen!!!

  • Just fantastic. Too back Nick Lowe is only known to some people for "Cruel to be Kind."

  • Timeless message.

  • ... and Mr. James Burton on lead!

  • Yeah! and he also produced all of Elvis's best LPs. The original version (by Brinsley Schwarz) is also delicious. Great backup vocals.

  • Love the music both of these guys create. Elvis Costello's version of this song has been a long time favorite of mine, and Nick Lowe writes some of the catchiest tunes in the rock genre. Never would have imagined I'd see a video of them performing this together. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • What a beautiful performance, thank you for posting this !

  • Im seeing Nick in brisbane tonight - cant wait

  • What was the gig like? Nick has changed a bit in style in recent years so would be interested to know what you thought.

  • enjoy. saw him (and elvis) in toronto back in 79 and again in 80, but never together.

    the consummate professionals....both of them.

  • Where is the har-mo-ney (sweet harmony)? These guys deliver it beautifully! Thanks for posting! Two of my favorite artists and one of my all-time favorite songs, no matter which version I hear!

  • Beautiful! Thanks for posting it.

  • This is so awesome. What a find! And while I love Elvis' version best, the two of them together is just great!

  • A brilliant anti war song better (and less schmaltzy) than "imagine". Elvis's original version with the Attractions is still the best.. It has to be done ANGRY! Nick Lowe's finest song...

  • @fishbehindthesofa Yes, Attractions version is great, but Lowe wrote this in a slow fashion like this, so it has its place as well, i think. The "anger" can be a slow burning kind, ala Johnny Cash...

  • @fishbehindthesofa I agree with everything except the fact that it "has" to be done angry. I think this version's resignation and disappointment works just as well.

  • @fishbehindthesofa Those songs are not all about the same things. And I don't consider "Imagine" to be schmaltzy at all.

  • Terrific. Always makes me feel better to watch this video.

  • この時のニックロウのアコギだけのソロ公演は伝説

  • Two great artists on stage, terrific guitar players

  • That was awesome... I just caught a Nick Lowe performance on Austin City Limits the other night which totally reminded me of how great a song writer he is!!!

  • Just guessing, mind you, but the presence of James Burton and Jim Keltner pretty much pegs this as the mid-to-late 80's band that toured behind the "King of America" album. Nice to hear this song done with a lighter touch for a change as opposed to the usual edgy, angry versions one generally hears. Beautiful harmony from Nick. Nobody can touch these guys...

  • What you mistake for simple anger is righteous indignation, my friend.

In the words of the song, "What's so funny about peace love and understanding?"

Our country is broke, and broken. It can all be tied back to having a brain-addled piece of sh*t for a President who was willing to manufacture evidence to get us into a war of choice.

On second thought, you're f*cking-A right I'm mad.

If you're not mad, it's because you aren't paying attention!

  • Elvis sang the harmonies, Nick Lowe switched to the lead part when there were two voices.

    Elvis WOULD do that. lol

  • FYI - Nick wrote this song.

  • Or so Elvis tells at the beginning of this video

  • that just made my day, I'd love to see these guys tour together. does anyone know when and where this was filmed?

  • They toured together in 1989. I saw this show at the gym in the University of Rhode Island on April 1st. One of the greatest shows of my life.

  • This was performed at Nippon Budoukan in Tokyo. It might be in 1987.

  • No, this was at Shinjuku Koseinenkin-Kaikan in 1987.

  • These two together are the only thing better than these two on their own. If you see what I mean :D

  • Beautiful. They complement each other so well, both singing and with Nick as producer. Elvis is one my favorite artists of all time, and yet I don't know if he's ever written a song as universally accessible as this one.

  • If you listen to the video, he credits the songwriter, Nick Lowe.

  • Great version! Love James Burton on lead guitar. Thanks for posting.

  • Whoever would have thought we'd get to see James Burton perform with Elvis again? ;^)

  • superb! real talent

  • Thank you, Pokopen, for keeping the flame burning.

  • Saw Nick and Elvis in Orlando FL, a year prior to this. What a great time. The best memories.
