Well if youve seen the race, Bekele took the 5k at that World Championships out in close to 4:04 for the first mile. If you dont think thats a fast pace then I dont know what is. El Guerrouj kicked home faster than he did off that pace. Not trying to say Bekele cant do that to other guys, but mid distance runners have kept up with Bekele before and beaten him. He's still the world record holder though
There are many ways to running a race a slow pace isn't one of them when there is 1500m specialist in the mix. On a fast pace on a good day El Guerrouj may keep up but on rare occasions, otherwise he would have been in the mix every time.

Kenenisa has barely done anything in the 3000 meters. If he did he could go for the record. He has the 5000m WR and 3000m is very related to the 5000. Komen ran fast but it is far from impossible for his record to be broken.
maybe komen is not a true legend either, if we compare komen the same way you compare kenenisa, then maybe komen should break the 1500m record which is also another "mad performance."

the 12.57 is actually OR, El Guerrouj would have no chance. The last time around they made it slow enough for him to keep up until the end.
