Versailles was quite normal if you put it in the context. Germans had no great destructions in their country. The whole west front line was in Belgium or France. So both of these countries had the destructions after the war. Allies made the error to accepte to negociate the peace without even put a feet in german territory. Russia was stabbed in the back by the Allies and this treaty - being the only Entente/Allied country to not even sign it. Former Russian territories were not returned to Russia (unlike French or Belgian) but rather given international sovereignty. Reparations or return of POWs to Russia was not even mentioned.

This treaty was fair. It could have given the Germans all the bacon grease in China and they would STILL have found a way to cause pain, misery & suffering across the globe.
The Germans are an evil race and an evil nation - it is in their genes to be corruptive, spiteful and to cause unlimited pain and uncapped amounts of suffering all over the world.
The Treaty of Versailles was a blessing and a move to create peace in Europe. The Germans just didn't want "peace" as they are simply EVIL.

Until 1930s Germany was officially a confederation of German states (Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony etc.). In Eastern Germany the support for the Nazis was the highest. Luckily, Prussia was destroyed for ever in 1945.

@decadhoc86 Prussia end to exist as a kingdom in 1871 when the prussian king became the german emperor. After WW 1 the last German emperor (he also was king of prussia) was send to exil in the netherlands and prussia became a "Freistaat" like it is stll today bavaria in germany.
In 20. Juli 1932 the Nazis abolished the Prussian "Freistaat" because they had no parliamentary majority. Known as "Prussian coup" Prussia during nazi-germany had nothing to do with WW 1.

Versailles hould have split up the Bismarkian German state into its previous kingdoms, a centralised and militarised German state was always going to be on the war path.

There is a lot of rubbish written about the treaty. Yes it was a big factor in the resentment felt by the germans later into the mid 1930's however the French and the US are the biggest cause for the 2nd world war. Revenge by the French, Isolation by the Americans and then the problems caused by the global crash and growth of the threat of Communisim in middle Europe killed any hope of the Weimar Republic keeping Germany Democratic. Germany could quite have easily sucomb to communisim.

@raindance74 In some way, yes, we can be blamed. Versailles was far too humiliating for a defeated country, which already had to take full blame for the start of the war. Today many historians believe that Great Britain should take the majority of responsibility for the outbreak of ww1. WW2 would not have started if Poland would have given Germany back the corridor without any resistance. Because they fought Germany, so too did France and England.

@sherpant There's never one cause. Germany took their land back, and more land, until they went to far. The allies tried to hold back WW2 from happening, but Hitler left them no choice. The invasion of Poland, the holocaust, all of it was never predicted by the allies. The axis and allies were as responsible as each other.

AJP Taylor in his 1961 book "Origins of the Second World War" wrote that Hitler was not the terrible figure of popular imagination but was a normal Western leader. WWII was not the result of any plan by Hitler whose foreign policy was much the same as The Weimar Republic. WWII happened because the WWI victors decided in 1939 to destroy Germany's ability to be a great power which they had hoped Versailles Treaty of 1918 would do. Hitler's take on the jews was widely shared among europeans
