  • that was awesome.

  • Scott Kelly was so perfect for that part in this song, ridiculous

  • the stage is just filled with utter, pure manliness.

  • omg how aweome troy must have been happy as shit he loves neurosis and too have the scott kelly must have made him beyond happy mastodon is an amazing band i love and enjoy their music so much

  • @Xsebyslaughter1 You know Scott Kelly appears on most of Mastodon's albums, right?

  • @storytellers82sucks Yes i do they bands are very fond of each others work :)

  • If you come across this video, that means you are looking for it. Who would be looking for a Mastodon video and not like it. 319 Likes, 3 Dislikes... Yeah, those of you who dislike the video actually like the video, but dislike it just to piss people off...

  • Just me who thinks that it actually sounds better when Troy is singing this song? Never the less, Scott is still an amazing singer. :)

  • @TehEditor Yeah, it might be just you. But that's cool too, Hell's yea!

  • This is the most manly array of facial hair since ZZ Top.

  • Scott Kelly is one big hairy motherfucker.

  • Scott Kelly's vocals add so much to this already amazing song. And you've gotta love Bill. He's not flashy, doesn't draw any attention to himself, he just stands there and flat out delivers. A true professional. So, when's the next album due out?

  • God I love new Mastodon!

  • I've loved Mastodon since the very beginning but I didn't like Crack The Skye when it was first released. Then I saw them live on that tour and realized "Oh, they want to be Neurosis now--okay."

  • @rebelsound Troll alert

  • @rebelsound crack the skye sounds nothing like neurosis. neurosis also isnt the first and only band to use a visualizer live....

  • SCOTT KELLY IS THE MAN.

  • Scott Kelly should permanently join Mastodon

  • wrods can hardly describe Mastodon.

  • @driekone sorry I mean "words"

  • @driekone sorry I mean "words"

Saludos!.

  • The best song of Mastodon... fuck the whale, ahaab, the wolf, the sleepy giant... This is it. A beautifull tribute to Brann's sister, very emotional, powerfull... "Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one / Her spirits too strong"...

  • Troy is Rasputin

  • @MastodonBC LOL!... who is "her" then?, Troy!? :P

  • look how cold it is!! you can see their breath

  • the screams scott kelly unleashed in that last part are so absolutly pain- and powerrfull, nobody could have put more emotion into that song then him.

  • This song is so tragic. I would love to see Mastodon live. If Crack the Skye isn't in your top 5, you aren't listening to it right.

  • Joe said from Gojira that they met mastodon and talking about a possible tour together in the future.

  • these guys wish they were as good as neurosis, they're good just not neurosis good

  • @fishmonster13 Who cares? Music is subjective to the listener. Comparisons about level of greatness is petty bullshit. I like to enjoy all sorts of music without comparing who's better than who.

  • @driekone I think he means live, and the consistancy of the musicianship. Instruments is one thing, but vocals are where Neurosis excel over most bands in the world at the moment

  • @fishmonster13 well Neurosis is one of everyone's influences. ANd Neurosis is more about spectacle in my opinion, so epic (mastodon is epic too, but you dont get that feel all the time, unless its like hearts alive, the last baron, crusher destroyer)

  • that was bad ass

  • I'm calling it: the next Mastodon album is going to be a collaboration with Neurosis. And it will be amazing.

  • @JDarkley if this happens I will marry you

  • i love how scott kelly faces brann when he sings the part about skye dailor WOW so powerful

  • i was at this show. i think i creamed my pants when i saw them. and bill's mustache is great.

  • lol is that john c riley rocking out back there

  • I was at this show, what a great show and sound. The video doesn't sound as awesome as it should, was truly an epic performance by every band I saw that day.

  • Do you see that pink mass of sludge on the ground? That is my mind being BLOWN AWAY BY THE SHEER AWESOMENESS OF THIS SONG. Scott Kelly and Troy FTMFW!

  • How the fuck did i miss this show?!

  • @Azzazzine thats a little weird, but I understand.

  • Scott Kelly makes this song perfect.

  • epic and heavy

  • Scott Kelly<3<3

  • I fucking love Mastodon.

  • no puede ser mejor!!! mastodont con scott kelly!!! yo lloro si veo algo así...

  • i love this song.

  • I don't want argue because amazing bands, from different genders.

I compare Pantera to Mastodon, as if Mastodon is the band that it will save metal in this decade as Pantera saved it in the 90's..

  • @gobola190 Pantera's kind of responsible for all the flavor-of-the-month Metal that we have this decade though.

  • @sonorpaiste702 yeah, true, one of few.

  • someone should have turned up troy's mike, i can hear scott kelly just fine, i just think troy should be a little louder

  • @DethmetalUSA

Troy should step closer to the microphone. Nothing to do with PA vocal levels

  • THIS is THE SHIT

  • This is real metal - it is heavy, yet with brain AND chops! Fucking ACE!

  • what i can't believe some guys on this page are dissing pantera and saying mastodon is better than them. BOTH Mastodon and Pantera are EQUALLY great bands with talents. We metalheads should be talking bout how shitty Limp Bizkit or Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga is.

  • @RAGGAPUNK33 If you don't like a band because it's not Pantera then shut the fuck fuck up and go listen to Pantera. You don't have announce it to the world. No body cares.

  • well said Metal Bassist

  • @RAGGAPUNK33 Mastodon are much more than 'shitty prog'. Mastodon are metallic stoner sludgey doom tinged progressive hardcore. If you can listen to Leviathan without crying because you've suddenly realised what you've been missing and how ridiculous you ever were to merely consider a notion that Mastodon were anything less than the pinnacle of heavy rock evolution, I will be impressed. Now go and bop to your pop metal or something.

  • @MetalBassist1000

    Nope-mastadon are shit

  • @RAGGAPUNK33

first of all, pantera is shit metal, this band is amazing, this song is supposed to be slow. they arnt really "metal". they have 2 extremely talented guitarists and a great drummer. you have respect them for what they are.

  • I love Mastodon... turned me on to so many great metal bands. LONG LIVE PROG!!

  • @RAGGAPUNK33 god forbid someone should like both!

  • @RAGGAPUNK33 you obviously dont know much about music my friend mastodon is one of the most influential bands of the past ten years not only that they are complex and full of meaning. You most likel dont know prog either. So go listen to pantera a little overated but they are good although they have no meaning whatsoever

  • All Hail MIGHTY MASTODON

  • man, these guys will live on as legends, the zeppelin of our time, metal is the new underground

    long live mastodon

  • EPIC!

  • I saw Mastodon last fall, and I love this song, but I think it could be improved if they just turned up the mic volume a little, that was definitely my only complaint when I saw them. Everything else was perfect... even Brent's drunkness.

  • To be honest when Troy does Scott's vocal part live on this song it sounds just as awesome, if not slightly more. When I saw them live, I was like ''fuck, I didn't think he had that in him''

  • i had a dude tell me he didn't like mastodon because they weren't heavy enough, wtf?! i think he meant to tell me they were so epic that they made him shit his pants, and he couldn't handle telling me the truth.

  • @MorbidHumanity666 well mastodon isn't as heavy as some other bands like nile or deicide... or even opeth...

but they are a very good band...just wish they put more songs in crack the skye... six isn't enough

  • @ahmadaz96001 quality over quantity

  • @helmsters93 that's what i love about mastodon

  • @aids696969 they know whats up

  • @MorbidHumanity666 Because to all these little shitnosed kids have the misconception that in order for music to be metal, it has to be FAST and screamed until the singers throat bleeds. Their metal fandom started when they started watching metalocalypse.. they're like "Black Sabbath who?". This album might not be fast, but it IS heavy as hell.

  • @MorbidHumanity666 yea that makes much more sense he was just ashamed

  • @MorbidHumanity666 that happened to me too. he said they weren't heavy enough and they were too "mainstream". meanwhile he was listening to fucking godsmack.

  • @MorbidHumanity666

    ahaha man, best comment

    epic mastodon is epic!!

  • @MorbidHumanity666 LOL Did he ever hear Leviathan and Remission? Or about half of Blood Mountain for that matter?

  • @MorbidHumanity666

i think you hit the nail on the head

  • @MorbidHumanity666 you made my day haha

  • @MorbidHumanity666 clearly he's never listened to mother puncher, march of the fire ants, all of remission, all of blood mountain, all of leviathan, and most of crack the skye....lmao....

  • i dont know this scot kelly dude, but he's hairy enough to be in mastodon. :/

  • @yeatsg Lol youve never heard neurosis?

  • Mastodon Darkest Song.

  • @masteroflicks It probably is. It's this song and the last Baron that make me wonder if Raputin WAS tempted off the path back to the boys body, or if he even wanted to in the first place.

  • i cant stop listen this song da besttt .. mastodon rlx !!

  • i've listened to this song once a day, every day, for the past three weeks....their best song in my opinion.

  • its 11:02 and i just farted.

  • 19:44 and i just farted

  • last day after school i listened to this album on my mp3 player. i had to cry. it is such a powerful rock album...

  • @BenniMuzak / metal

  • @neunmad / it doesn't matter whether you call this rock, metal or prog. sometimes i don't like thinking about genres...

  • @BenniMuzak You've got a point.. Sowi :F

  • dude, i cried listening to czar when i moved away from my hometown, i feel you dude

  • my god u can't hear troy sandess vocals

    oh well. . .

    go mastodon

  • wow and i saw these guys 2 years ago and they ar roaring into metal musc

  • Their music just makes me wanna have sex. :p

  • @graphicdesignloser

just the Crack the skye album.

the rest of there music makes me wanna kill babies.

  • lol

  • @zeppelinchamp77 fuck yeah dude!!!!!!!!

  • couldnt agree with you more i cant wait to see what is next for the mighty mastodon

  • @graphicdesignloser find a girl who asks you to have sex to mastodon - marry her.

  • @graphicdesignloser So, I guess Freud was right about sex urges related to any kind of human desire. That's so sad,

  • @graphicdesignloser So, I guess Freud was right about sex urges related to any kind of human desire. That's so sad.

  • @chopsuey187

And what happened to you? Where you born without genitals?

  • Mastodon makes me like metal more than I thought...in much the same way Neurosis did, actually.

  • If Mastodon ever tours with Lamb Of God again I would love to hear Randy Blythe sing Scott Kelly's part in this song.

  • @akathasamurai That must of been fuckin admazing dude.

  • Brent hinds has said their next few albums willl carry on evolving this new sound.

  • i REALLY hope Scott becomes their new singer, cus all the members are musically incredibal, they just need that extra touch

  • While Scott would definitely be a great addition, Troy, Brann, and Brent fill the role of vocals perfectly well. Why mess with a formula that works, especially when it works as amazingly well as Mastodon's? Plus, if Scott joined the band, we would obviously hear a lot less of Troy and Brent, and I definitely don't want that.

  • I agree their all good singers in mastodon, but i think scott would probably just augment the whole thing. troy and brent would probably be singing more comfotable roles too

  • Scott is devoted to Neurosis for life. Theres no coming out of that for him.

  • my favorite song on CTS!! awesome

but the album version sounds better

  • the scott kelly sections in this are EPIC !!!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! lol

  • Man this is a perfect song for scott to be singing too!

I agree that Troy is such a sick bass player. Love seeing a metal bassist that doesn't play with a pick.

  • he doesnt play difficult stuff usually or fast for that matter. bassists in more hardcore genre's typically need a pick cause its so fast and technical.

  • check out steve digiorgio ;)

  • anybody hear Scott kelly's new band Shrinebuilder? it is awesome

  • I wish this was better recorded, although its still quite decent

  • the bass playing is rediculous for him to get that kind of definition amongst the guitars and not using a pick fuckin awesome hands down one of the best bassists ive ever heard

  • he makes me want to pick up a bass

  • Could we get Mastodon and Neurosis in the studio together, please?

  • I know like a double disc album!! I've thought of this many times before. It would be a good pr tool too since hardly anyone buys albums anymore, and collectors mostly buy vinyls.

  • i hear that i still buy albums and i think that would be a good album

  • brilliant.

  • 4:16 to 4:30 is such an amazing riff.

  • scott is a fucking beast, such a powerful voice

  • the first album i got was Crack The Skye, but i've heard that Leviathan is 1 of the greatest metal albums of all time.

  • neurosis is my favorite band for years now and i never got the time to listen to mastodon. can somebody recommend a starting album for me.keep in mind that i love more neurosis softer atmospheric albums

  • Crack the skye is probably the best, cause its the softest and has a lot of atmospheric parts, especially on the Czar.

This is one of the heviest song on the album and definatly has the most harsh vocals plus its just an awesome album. Definatly check it out.

  • i really hope they do a space-themed album on their next studio run. i really can't get enough of oblivion, crack the skye, and sleeping giant. crack the skye was the last album in their "4 elements idea". remission was based on fire, leviathan on water, blood mountain on earth, and crack the skye on wind. i don't know how the hell they're gonna top crack the skye,

  • personally i love all their albums some more than others i really think this album is prolly their least interesting to me, i like blood mountain a lot better and even stuff older than that compared to this album, i would like to hear heavier stuff from them honestly

  • I read an interview with Brann (I'm pretty sure it was him) where he said that Crack the Skye isn't their air album, it's their ether album. Ether technically isn't air, so there's still that option.

    Love CTS, by the way.

  • @drumtesters Crack the skye is aether, not wind.

  • oh ok.

  • Crack The Skye was ether not wind.

Space, supernatural realms, dreams, premonition visions, impossible feats, sorcery and prophetic visions of the future have nothing to do air.

Though I think they are finally finishing their Crack The Skye tour, and are starting to work on their next album in SMALL PIECES.

  • for sure check out mastodons latest album, OR Blood Mountain. you cant really go wrong with which of theirs you choose first, all depends on if you like the heavy or soft...(which you love atmopheric)...so, "crack the skye" would be for you ;) amazing, EPIC album.

  • I'd say blood mountain. Has both heavy and pure singing songs

  • crack the skye, in the beginning you won't find it that great, but after 4-5 listens you'll have become completely fucking addicted :P personally experienced !

  • thats what happened to me.....

  • i loved crack the skye from the first second...i had to listen to blood mountain a couple times to become retarded over it..i cant really get into remission though

  • probly any album except for remission. remission is their starting album and isnt as amazing as the others

  • Try Blood Mountain and start from the song 'Sleeping Giant'. ; )

  • YEAH!!!!! lol...Blood mountain is in my top 5 metal albums of all time

  • Blood Mountain is great. You should start with that. Or Leviathan!

  • I saw them open for Dethclok also...i would argue that they were in many ways a lot better, than dethclok.

  • Saw them open for Dethklok Friday night, they played the whole album :D.

  • It's nice to see a band that appreciates the more obscure songs on their albums instead of playing their hit songs over and over.

  • Ha same here :)

  • this is fucking awesome. im seein them next time they come to atlanta. gonna get fucked up with my homey brann.

  • scott kelly should just join mastodon

  • Nah I wanna hear more Neurosis tbh.

  • I can barely hear troy

  • Best song of the whole album...the vocal part of troy is not always perfect...but it doesn't matter, they create such a beautiful atmopshere...

  • This is such an awesome upload.....the bee's knees.

  • Phenomenal use of the term bee's knees, if I may say so.

  • tonucularbomb they are not death metal, more art metal

  • sludge metal

  • haha troys breath.

that place is so sketchy on stage.

and hte only airconditioning is a giant fan. ha

  • kickass band

  • With Scott Kelly, what a treat.

  • is it really cold in there? you can see troy's breath

  • thanks for sharing this

  • This is the theme for the new Splatterhouse game.

  • i'm not really into the whole yelling metal thing, but scott kelly is gettin me into it.

  • Does anyone know who normally sings the Scott Kelly's part live?

  • Troy does

  • Thanks
