  • I understand the mirror rolling to allow the beam to roll with the bike, but what is the purpose of the light angling to shoo the beam further or pulling it in closer? is that just for high beam vs low beam situations?

  • @Dylangj08 when you sit on the bike the front goes up, so u have to correct the angle of the light to avoid blinding the people in the cars coming towards you. u get the same effect when driving uphill

  • amazing!

  • This tech can save lives if you live near mountains where there are no street light and sharp corners... the only way others can tell you are there is if they see your lights around the corner and if you are turning they wont see them with regular lights

  • 1:09 i ride a bike, that don't happen.

  • reminds me of an owl

  • Finally one big motocycle manufaturer is taking the headlight problem serious! Swedish "Bike" magazine is to my knowledge the only magazine testing also mc headligths. What you see there is sometimes frightening! Why do we need to live with headlights that reach less then half as far as most standard car lights, not to speak of xenon, which is state of the art now in almost all medium sized cars? Thanks BMW, hope this gives inspiration to other manufaturers! It's complicated, but possible!

  • Those clever Germans. lol

  • It's a great feature but nothing new. The American 1948 Tucker Sedan was likewise equipped with a third central headlamp connected mechanically to the steering system. This is new in that it responds to your bank angle AND self-levels.

1928 Packard also had driving lights that were linked to the steering.

  • Die Verbesserung der Ausleuchtung wäre sicher auch ohne diese maßlose Übertreibung erkennbar gewesen, aber so muss das wohl sein in Werbefilmchen...

  • I need to see real life comparisons to be impressed.

  • nice!

  • Those German geniuses. What will they think of next...

  • Seems like the guys who made the animation don't ride bikes.

Hope that at least the final system will steer the light in the right direction! haha

  • 0:19 to skip the ads, vote up!

  • Hopefully we'll see this technology on all cars and bikes in the future!

  • made me laugh.. how would have the rider with the conventional headlight managed to stay on the road o.0

  • unglaublich. Innovation pur.

  • yeah conventional isn't that exaggerated, plus they must of been going 5mph cause you don't end up turning your handlebars left to turn left at speed...... still probably a good idea, but knowing bmw, it'll be a $2k option...

  • Cool HENTAI Technology

  • Вот это надо прогрессивный технологии. Тем лучше, интересно какая характеристика мотоцикл? БМВ всегда лучше.

  • The "conventional" headlight is waaaaaaayyyy better than shown on the video.

But still it is a simple yet good idea...

  • The conventional headlight does not light like shown in the vid, wtf?? still a cool idea, but could have shown better example..

  • @mongolaid No kidding. The headlights on my bike are thousands of times better than the "conventional" headlight shown in this video. I just kept thinking how crappy the old K1xxx bikes must have been if that's all their "conventional" headlights would show. Maybe when the bike comes out we can get a real life video of each so we will actually know the difference.

  • @dodgerider26 Same here. in the vid it's like they actually turn the steering wheel to when turning, instead of leaning.

  • @mongolaid yea cause theres a steering wheel on a bike

  • @philfortunato whatever.. i dont know the english word, i think you know what i mean, tho.

  • @mongolaid You're supposed to turn the bars instead of lean. More control. Besides that, many bikes don't have lights attached to the handlebars. Your point stands though...the conventional demo is a little out there. I know my bike could benefit from this tech, demonstration notwithstanding.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Looks science fiction. Wow.

  • Interesting, I gone through tons of bikes and with exception of 2 (both kawas kmx125 and gt550) all had terrible headlights, well when it comes to seeing where you want to go in the dark and out of town (ie when you need them most lol)

  • this is the future

  • Sick

  • K1600, is that the new in-line six?

  • it partly looks like megatron from transformers

  • lights make it look like an owl lol

  • I still don't see what's wrong with holding a torch

  • @PauloRider1 well if you hold a torch, everyone else will be jealous that they spent so much money on lights that aren't comparable to effectiveness of the torch you're using so i guess we just have to stick with these lights then? =/

  • @PauloRider1 obviously you can't jack off while holding a torch riding.

  • what a load a shite

  • And why is it drifting through the corner?

  • LOL! the conventional headlight example is pure BS. Yes it does not shine all the way through the corner, but it doesn't get cut off like that either XD

  • Interesting technology...

  • That looks like the scariest, most aggressive Owl ever thought of!

  • Dear BMW, inventions are very appreciated. but honestly I rarely drive at night... as long as you don't forget to invent motors with less fuel consumption everything is cool

  • this is as useful as windshield wiper rain sensors ....

  • Dude! For the millionth time I've told you not to exaggerate...

  • Great example of inventing something pple dont need.

  • Conventional headlights dont act like depicted in this ad.

  • Nice headlight but horrible representation of a normal bike. Be fair and honest or don't even put it in the video.

  • pretty cool

  • impressive difference.

  • Great Idea.

  • i want one

  • i can definitely see the benefits but i wouldnt want to fixate on the head light and let it dictate my turn ...have to see how it works in real life

  • CGI is really great and all, but wouldn't it be better displayed live action ?

  • @ROCKGUDEN I thought the same.

  • I do the same thing with a mag-lite duct-taped to my helmet. And I bought a summer cottage with the money I saved.

  • What does adaptive mean?

    Is that the 6-cylinder bike?

  • Thing is, people who can afford bikes like these generally only ride on sunny, dry summer days. An independent company who made a simple universal headlight which incorporated something like this could make a mint I reckon.

  • I just thought then. Wouldnt mounting the headlights in gyroscopes be a better solution than this whole mirror arrangement type thing?

  • @passwordresetisbroke I was thinking the exact same thing. Gyroscopes are tired and true. Not to mention fairly simple therefore simple to fix. where as this looks like there's more to just go wrong than its worth.

  • @passwordresetisbroke Yes. At least if you want your headlight to always be pointing in the same direction.. for example north/east.

  • I just love the background music :P

  • most bikes have this feature already.. you just gotta be doing a mono to get the effect!

  • Pretty similar to the headlight on the 1948 Tucker.

  • Do you think this will be on the 2011 s 1000rr?

  • so sexy

  • that 'conventional' headlight angles are not exaggerated, it's just Thierry Van Den Bosch on his summo xD

  • That was CGI but I will asume the light system works but would like to see them in life.

  • I love BMW but I think they're telling a little white lie here, the only time my "conventional" headlight did those angles was when my bike was spinning down the road after i crashed.

  • your right. But if you've driven cars with adaptive headlights already, it rly is a great improvement, I don't want to miss anymore on my future cars. The question is just, how many bikers drive alot at night? I usually just drive in good weather conditions for fun. personally for me: I don't need it on my bike ;)

  • @c00lchill3r ? Even when I near tip my car over the lights dont really alter all that much, what is the point of adaptive headlights in a car?

And I used to ride a my old bike at all hours, even though the light didnt actually work and I was too lazy/stupid to fix it.. Working headlight on my next :D

    Dangermouse Away!

  • too exaggerated, never seen an conventional light do thats unless you are going into corners with a crazy angles. Maybe useful for 24 hours races but doubt needed for driving on the road.

  • weirdest conventional headlight movement Ive ever seen...I see their point and the Adaptive headlight is a great idea....buuuuuuut Ive not seen a headlight act quite as exageratted as they suggest in this

  • what about pot holes in the road? wont that make it jump and stuff?

  • it looks good although i have a feeling that its another thing to break or go wrong

  • Of all the bikes I've owned, I've never seen one do what the supposed "conventional" headlight does in this video. Lame over exaggeration. Putting it to techno music doesn't make it cooler.

  • cool concept but the conventional headlight simulation is completely exaggerated

  • @BryansU2B i couldnt agree more... its like its been powered by a wax candle

  • @BryansU2B Maybe but still if you've ever done any on-ramp or off-ramp at night you'll know what they mean. That would be cool. Too bad they can't put it on any regular sport bikes.

  • @BryansU2B Not by much, but I do believe they are basing off of a low beam test on the standard.
