@agentgray666 You're probably right. Though, in my original statement, I made the claim that I didn't mind that Blizzard copied the Tyranids. Chaos are so lucky. Hiding in their warp not having to worry about tyranids, dark eldar, or necrons. They just come out attack for a bit and the go back to hiding th warp...the cowards.
Nothing can compare with the silliness of being twirled about by a Predator in AVP.
At any rate, the original designers of the game would probably admit that the Zerg are based on Tyranids, since their WarCraft races were based on comparative Warhammer Fantasy Battle races. Looking beyond the point that they're both biologically-engineered hiveminds that strip planets of biomass, far too many of their units have a Tyranid analogue, from the Zerglings, to the Ultralisks, to the Mind Slaves.
one problem with the dicription they dont use the warp they just use narvals which are ships that take gravity from a fresh planet and make a tube of it so that the hive fleets get there faster but simple mistake

I also liked the novel version of the Arachnids from Starship Troopers over the Zerg, too, but to be honest, SC isn't that bad of a series. For me, the themes are completely different from 40k like the Humans being united under an Emperor is the opposite of a race of nomadic rednecks that are completely splintered. That and the SMs from both series don't look alike.
@MrIlive4metal Tyranids don't have life cycles. All Tyranid organisms are made by the Norn Queen with a particular task and duty that they are engineered to do. They are made, they help in the Tyrannoforming of planets, and they are reabsorbed by the Hive Fleets so that they can start the process over again. There is no "Once this happens, this one turns into that one."
@MrIlive4metal Well when Tyranids invade a world, obviously some will die. So when the Hive Ships harvest the planet's life they also harvest the fallen tyranids genetic material. They funnel it back into their living ships and use that to grow stronger and better tyranids. Great tribute BTW :)
@AndroxineVortex it's scientifically possible to find out the strengths and weaknesses of a weapon by studying the wounds it inflicts on a person's body (of course you study the body when it's DEAD!!) LOL
@MrIlive4metal They don't really have a life cycle there grown in a liveing bio-factory to full size and after there sent to a planet or an enemy ship and kill and eat what they can, they go to a digestion pool and get reabsorbed by the hive fleet, or get eaten by another Tyranid if they die and they go to a pool.
@MrIlive4metal There isn't a life cycle to Tyranids. The larger forms were immediately born from the Hive Mind (That way it can sustain it's connection to the Hive Mind). This is what I believe happened.
@MrIlive4metal Tyranids of most sorts are born from a norm queen aboard a hive ship. and mature rapidly. All but the most important tyranids kill themselves after a planet is devoured by throwing themselves into a digestion pool and returning their biomass to the supplies to spawn more overlords....i mean nids.
@MrIlive4metal I can answer that for you. *Insert generic Tyranid" 1. Spawns from a spawning pool 2.Fights 3. Dead/alive(doesn't matter, as long the tyranid wins the planet) 4. Jumps/gets thrown into a bio-mass pool and reabsorbed into the Hive Swarm. 5. Rinse and repeat
@MrIlive4metal its pretty much birth, eat, kill, die, repeat. they don't evolve per traditional means they are bred and grown as needed by non queens hatched fully grown -as far as i know- and they just do their thing
@Makkovar Not to forget they can't find the Hive mind for the tyranids. And it has absolutely NO weakness. Besides, the tyranids greatest strategy is rush and eat everything for snack
@StarSpawn06 Considering the indignity heaped upon said aliens in the Alien vs. Predator films, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Xenomorphs are cartoonised Xenomorphs?
@Thremle In storytelling, sometimes it can. The Tyranids fill a very specific role in 40k fiction: an incomprehensible, galaxy-consuming threat that can't be communicated with. The Zerg try to fill the same niche in starcraft, but having an established origin and being lead by a lady in tights (with perfunctory wings, no less), are much less alien and much more finite in scope.
You're free to like the Zerg more, though. The freedom to have bad taste is a fundamental human right.
an actual tyranid invasion would begin hundreds of years before the main fleet arrived. genestealers would drop in gain worshippers (somehow) mutate them then they would reproduce creating generations of mutants andm eventually pure strain genestealers that would burst from below when the time of invasion had come.
@ResyFan109 Actually, once they'd produce purestrain again (5th generation if my memory serves me right), they'd continue to spread further. Infect more local population and spread into other systems. Eventually leading to events like described in one of the CIaphas Cain novels, where a sudden rebellion breaks out on a planet.
Damm I wasn't talking about the tabletop game. I was reffering to the Warhammer 40k Dawn of War which appeared in 2004 and Dawn of War 2-2009 in comparison with Starcraft which came out earlier in 1998. Maybe you guys can see the sarcasm now.
@tsigy poorly informed =/= sarcasm. 'nids are older than 11 years. First 'stealers appeared in the 1980s with Space Hulk. First warriors in 1990. And they popped up in Rogue Trader, too. Tyranid Codex 1st Edition popped up 1992.
Nids are something that could grind up the Zerg into casserole (more precisely, zergerole), crush Arachnids like little bugs they are and have Aliens for breakfast. And make Superman squeal like a little girl while flying after a new pair of shorts.
Chuck Norris is probably the only thing in the Universe that even the nids fear...
Is it just me, or would it be awesome to see a Space Marine chapter to capture, tame, and ride Tyranids, specifically Carnifexes, into battle against The Chaos?
You can't say the Zerg are a copy of the Tyranids maybe the other way around considering the time when the games appeared. But you can say both evolved from Alien (the mpvie) concept.
@tsigy Warhammer 40,000 came out before starcraft. Blizzard actually got sued by games workshop for stealing so many ideas from Warhammer 40,000. Now whenever blizzard does something starcraft related they need to pay games workshop a fuckload of money.
The zerg are copy/paste of tyranids.
The Terrans copy/paste of the imperium.
The Protoss/Dark Protoss copy/paste of The Eldar/Dark Eldar
A single "scout" swarm fleet, all tiranids fleet encountered in wh40k are "scout", should oblitarate all koprulu sector on SC2. Compare Tiranids vs zergs its like hope a tretraplegic kid win a fight vs fedor emilanenko. Pretty unfair. Read the Forge World book Anphelion Proyect. all about tyranids ya will know true fear.
There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us almost by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey. -Inquisitor Czevak
When you fight Tyranids you face not only those before you on the field of battle but the untold thousands which seek to surround you, which attack your supporting units and destroy your supply lines in perfect synchronicity.
man, the warhammer 40k universe needs an RTS game with map-playing like the Toal War series but set in space. It would rlly be nice to see the races interact with their characteristics (planet consumption for tyranids, webway gates for eldars, the warp, managing the imperium of man) instead of just on a 2v2 map small battle ....
,We cannot live through this. Mankind cannot live through this. In a single day they have covered the surface of this planet with a flood of living blades and needle-fanged mouths. Kill one and ten take its place. If they are truly without number then our race is doomed to a violent death before every shred of our civilization is scoured away by a force more voracious than the fires of hell themselves! Death! By the Machine God, Death is here!` -The last words of Magos Varnak
I've been discussing if Tyranids could join the Tau. And this is what most people said:
That when when all Synapse creatures leave the planet and the Gaunts remain without any link to the Hive Mind, they start acting like ordinary animals. That is when the Kroot Goads come and try to tame them. Although the Tau Earth Caste Biologists should do a lot of experiments, trying to make them permanently cut-off from the Hive Mind. Just imagine how bithin' would it be to see both Fire Warriors & Gaunts
Tyranids disgust me. more than nurgle chaos guys. I feel sorry for imperial guard because they dont have a chance against tyranid :( and there is so few space marines.. Tau, Eldar and the Orks is the onlsty standing chance against them. Necrons, dark eldar, chaos would not even care about them.
But i would really want to see endless necrons and tyranids fight each other ;D
@FightforDeath34 the tyranids would only defend from the necrons as the tryanids have biomass. After all other races have been defeated the tyranid swarms, the necrons and the gods of the warp would fight for the rest of eternity as nurgle khorne tzeentch slaanesh the c'tan and the hive mind are all immortal
tyranids are the best and always will be the best. there is nothing cawardly about swarming in and fearlessly attacking your enemies. tyranids do not fear death because they are the top dog in the food chain. imperial gaurd and eldar being the bottom of the food chain.
The Tyranid's only weakness is a combined arms strategy where the forces fighting the Nids are so different the Nids cannot adapt. In the fluff this happened when an IG regiment teamed up with a Tau strike force to defeat a hive splinter.
It's funny because for the Nids to be defeated, a great deal of races would have to ally with each other. This being WH40k that would never happen. Grimdark.....
um nids would eat the zerg becouse of pure numbers and .....BIO TITANS!! mewhaha.theres also the fact that nids evolve ultra fast(by the brood) and learn faster.i think the zerg would be assimalated to create the tyranergs!!!
do you guys think that if the space marines with all chapters the imperial gaurd the tau and the eldar could wipe out the tyranid race for good if they teamed up?
idc if 'nids are the "original zerg", zerg is more than willing to kick yer ass! :D
This is quite an interesting match-up, but it's not really fair the way its set up now; starcraft timeline is just hundreds(?) of years into the future, while warhammer is... well, tens of thousands =P give the zerg THAT much time, then we'll talk ^^
@GamerWatcher But the Zergs have no specialties, they are just a mass,Nids have specialized units, like the Old One Eye that can even heal mortal wounds. The Swarmlord, possibly the most inteligent lifeform in terms of battle strategies, second only to the Hive Mind.Parasite of Mortrex, give it some days and it can infest a whole planet with Rippers.Doom of Malan'tai,a psychic artilery that not only can destroy squadrons in 1 shot, but then it feast upon their souls.
They are coming! I feel them scratching inside my mind, scratching, screaming, running, so many... so, many voices. They're coming for us - flesh, body and soul!
You know what, even though this is all fake, it still pretty scary to think their might be something like the Tyranid in galaxy. An all hive minded alien race, bent on consuming all life.

Let's face it, every science fiction story had it's basic races: The future humans, a high tech evolved alien race, and an biological hive mind.
Examples: Halo (Earth humans, the covenant, the flood), Star Trek (earth humans, the Borg), Stargate (earth humans, the Gould/Ori, the wraith).
Everyone rips stuff off of everyone, so we may as well not try to blame anyone for anything.

do we not consider the indignity heaped upon the Tyranids in the DoW2 games ? ^,-
I am not comparing their power. what i want to say is:
the Zerg are not "rip-offs" of Nids.
both were inspired in a way by Xenomorphs, and of the two, the Nids have a closer resemblance to the Aliens.
the earliest Zerg designs looked rather like walking/floating tumours ( in SC2 they have sort of reverted to that theme... XP )

Talloweed 6 months ago
@Talloweed SC is in a smaller scale and designed to be less grimdark, but hey, you made pretty good point. Totally not expected it.

an actual tyranid invasion would begin hundreds of years before the main fleet arrived. genestealers would drop in gain worshippers (somehow) mutate them then they would reproduce creating generations of mutants andm eventually pure strain genestealers that would burst from below when the time of invasion had come.
ResyFan109 1 year ago
@ResyFan109 Actually, once they'd produce purestrain again (5th generation if my memory serves me right), they'd continue to spread further. Infect more local population and spread into other systems. Eventually leading to events like described in one of the CIaphas Cain novels, where a sudden rebellion breaks out on a planet.
higuma75 1 year ago
Damm I wasn't talking about the tabletop game. I was reffering to the Warhammer 40k Dawn of War which appeared in 2004 and Dawn of War 2-2009 in comparison with Starcraft which came out earlier in 1998. Maybe you guys can see the sarcasm now.
tsigy 1 year ago

Yhe Xel'Naga copy/paste of The Old Ones.
Deal with it.

RetartIamnot1 1 year ago
man, the warhammer 40k universe needs an RTS game with map-playing like the Toal War series but set in space. It would rlly be nice to see the races interact with their characteristics (planet consumption for tyranids, webway gates for eldars, the warp, managing the imperium of man) instead of just on a 2v2 map small battle ....

FightforDeath34 1 year ago

@LongviewGD182
idc if 'nids are the "original zerg", zerg is more than willing to kick yer ass! :D
This is quite an interesting match-up, but it's not really fair the way its set up now; starcraft timeline is just hundreds(?) of years into the future, while warhammer is... well, tens of thousands =P give the zerg THAT much time, then we'll talk ^^
GamerWatcher 1 year ago
@GamerWatcher But the Zergs have no specialties, they are just a mass,Nids have specialized units, like the Old One Eye that can even heal mortal wounds. The Swarmlord, possibly the most inteligent lifeform in terms of battle strategies, second only to the Hive Mind.Parasite of Mortrex, give it some days and it can infest a whole planet with Rippers.Doom of Malan'tai,a psychic artilery that not only can destroy squadrons in 1 shot, but then it feast upon their souls.
clickingpinging 1 year ago
@GamerWatcher And that's only a portion of their specialized units. Also, mind if i tell you that the Nids came from a tottaly different galaxy.
Should a Space Marine with a flamer go to starcraft universe he would tottaly own thousands if not millions of zergs.
clickingpinging 1 year ago
i highley doubt that with all of are millitary forces combind could take out a hive fleet
