  • The player isn't that great but the instrument is well worth knowing about

  • Nice idea, but I'd rather make a spudgun out of those pipes :P

  • I think you could use some tuning.

  • How did you make this thing.... where did you the idea from?

  • MarioBros Underground :)

  • yeaah

  • did you use an equation to figure out what lengths to cut the pipe to? i'm working on a similar project and i can't seem to find an equation online... I would really appreciate it.

  • open: nv/4L

    closed: nv/2L

where n is the acoustical mode (say 1) v is the speed of sound, and L is the length of the wave. Find the frequencies of your notes, and L=f/v. Don't forget to preserve your units, or you'll drive yourself insane.

  • go to bmgconstruction101dotcom

  • Very cool, funky instrument. I like it!

  • Why don't you just let Blue Man Group have their glory!? :P

  • Inspired by Blue Man Group, sure.

  • MARIOOOOOOOOOO!!

    HAUAHUAHUA NICE

  • mario ?

  • w3rd!!

  • Needs tuning.

  • You are right - this was shot before we tuned it - some of the other videos of HitPipes feature the instrument in tune ;).

  • Bhutta dhatta dhutta blep blep shablep smuttha.

  • might come out more if you were to stretch the pitch....and put a keying for the tap sections....kinda like the fingerings for a trumpet.....it may help....pretty cool though...4*

  • MARIO DUNGEON!!!!!!!!!! bunna dunna duna

  • Thats awful.

  • needs a little tuning

  • lol mario i can play that on the piano

  • Just a vairant of Blue Man Group.

  • Dont use plastic as the hit pad... It will sound better with another material.

  • Hi Craigdatiga - thanks for your comment. I Have tried other material including a rubber-sheet backed section of coroplast which mutes the initial strike sound nicely. These can be inserted as disks inside open-cut rings made of this blue plastic part. Any material can be inserted like this - as long as it has a porthole and can withstand a good pounding.

  • if you leave them open and use old flip flops as paddles over the top, youll find it works Amazing, thats what ive been experimenting on with mine

  • Yes, - it says in the text comments that accompany the video "Easy reach, fast arpeggio drum heads quickly come off to reveal fat-sounding foam-paddle slapper surfaces. "

We will post more videos with paddles shortly.

  • Why don't you make a drumhead... It sounds way better than any material used for the head..

  • That's absolutely amazing!

  • nice work! you should make more vids with other songs

  • haha mario bros.

  • It's quite a cool concept of 'merging' the construction of a tubulum and a PVC instrument. It plays like PVC but you only need half the length of pipe, right? Nice find.

  • I've been thinking about building a PVC instrument with caps; what kind did you use?

  • Hey BlueManLan - I replied on the thread at bmgconstruction101 with the part numbers for you. C.

  • nice i didnt put caps on my tubulum,i see an advantage tho, i like this alot! go to the website bmgconstruction101 , com

my instrument is there, but it aint half as good as this, nice work :D
