  • I just know that it was two-d-x not i-i-d-x

  • 300+ combo why!!!!!

  • And also, look at the date of this video. Are you really that ignorant? *facepalm*

  • And no, this game is NOT easy by any means, and requires patience and skill to master and be consistantly good at it

  • No this is not the latest beatmania IIDX :/ DIDN'T YOU FRIKKIN HEAR WHAT HE SAID!? November 2008 it was released. IIDX 17 SIRIUS has been released in 2009 and finished with the internet rankings and now we are on the 18th iteration, Resort Anthem. Check your info dude before posting

  • Is this the latest Beatmania or what!?

  • LOL! female demographic

  • ''easy to play'' *cuts to screen shot of Japanese dude's finger bleeding*

  • Song at 0:45 is Lucky Vaccuum I think x3

  • First II is ROMAN NUMERAL FOR 2 2DX but decided to go IIDX

  • I suck eggs at this game

  • God 5xx songs, shame on my dj hero

  • It's not like IIDX is a hard game, the "Light 7" mode or whatever is called now allows you to play just about every song at a bearable difficulty level.

  • wtf are you talking about??

  • LOL at Japanese hard core ppl

  • what song from IIdx is that guy playing?

  • Colorful Cookie.

  • Colourful Cookie by Lucky Vacuum (aka DJ Yoshitaka)

  • lol it IS the hardest game ever but its not "IMPOSSIBLE". Ive been playing for like 7-8 months and i can clear some 8's.

  • you, sir, can go to hell.

  • @ genericmember130340

look whos talking douche ur the fake

  • noob

  • dumb ass

  • why are people comparing this to ikaruga ? there 2 very different skills and games , ikaruga isnt anywhere near as hard as this to just get through but like most modern arcade games start playing it for score with maximum chaining and it becomes jedi level only .

  • This game makes most hard games look piss easy, especially the really good hard games look really piss easy. That's why most gamers cant get into beatmania unless there willing to play it like mad for ages and ages so they can get good.

  • HOLYSHIT! thats hella hard!

  • Not to mention that they are playing on easy difficulties...

    "ANOTHER" IS INHUMAN. PERIOD

  • no its not.

  • i play another all day...

  • @jtakas4 WIN?

  • they were both made by konami.

  • Easy to play? IIDX makes Ikaruga look like Ms. Pac Man. Haven't played arcade EMPRESS but this game has never NOT had a huge learning curve. I mean, this game is the sole reason for Japan's high suicide rate.

  • why would they kill themself over a videogame?

  • ..j-just a joke

  • in some way you're right xD

but they said "easy to learn, hard to master"

    =)

if you suicide because you can't play decent, then you didn't borned to play beatgames =P

Beatmania it's mother earth of the beatgames ^^

  • FUCK YEAH

  • IIDX makes Ikaruga look like Ninjabread Man more like except that the game is actually good, instead of sucking balls and being piss easy.

  • they said easy to play

    i dont believe it

  • this is one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" games

a very simple game with the potential to become very concentration consuming

  • I just lost the game didn't I?

    Touché. Touché.

  • It's coming to PS2 - it'll be the last beatmania PS2 game.

  • sad isnt it!! T.T im gonna have to bust out 600 bucks for a ps3!!! buts it worth it ^.^ ... o and empress is expected to have 180 songs right? I CANT WAIT!!!!

  • Empress is going to be two discs for the PS2. This was already confirmed several days ago.

  • i know... im talking about after ps2 >.> ... empress is the last one for ps2 i know that... its just that when i want to continue playing IIDX on a console, i would need to get a ps3

  • nope... i don't think bemani would do that...

  • O_O allucinante!

  • ゲームやってんの俺じゃねーか

  • IIDX

  • IIDX

  • IIDX

  • IIDX by a longshot.

  • whoever gave me the thumbs down, why? its just a question. and yeah, IIDX definitely.

  • IIDX is harder, much, much, harder, hehe..

  • You should be shot for asking that question.

7 buttons + turntable vs 5 buttons w/ strum (no, that does not make 10 buttons)

One of IIDX's (US version) 3's on [A] is harder than the hardest GH song (i'm pointing at you, TTFAF).

  • Definetly IIDX.

  • IIDX

  • IIDX

  • *Eye* *Eye* *Dee* *Ex*

  • lol its 2Dx not ii II for 2

  • IIDX BITCH!!!!

    IIDX FTW

  • IIDX

  • Wow fark, I can only handle 5 keys O_o

  • this is old xD there is 7 keys now lol...insane :f

  • "This new game features a bold PINK color scheme that was adopted to appeal more to the female demographic"

Wow... Really? Not to sounds like an ass but you really expect girls to play it just cause it's pink?

  • do you think gay guys would play it if the whole theme consisted of dudes boning each other?

  • probably. excepy dudes boning each other is WAY TOO DISTRACTING.

  • HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA

  • booooooooo i played beatmania 1 form years. its the only beatmania game to come out in the uk. dj hero, hopefully it will be similar.

  • Such a good game but americans just GOTTA HAVE their shitty rock music from bad music games like GH and RB =(.

  • yup

  • Yeah I fucking hate GH and RB. Shitty music, horrible looking 3D characters, supid/broken score system, unnecessary 3D layout that makes the note chart only harder to read...

  • Wow. Just, wow.

  • FeeltheHertz...

Rockband is original? give me a break... it was ripped off... of KONAMI, who gave birth to the music games industry... GH was ripped off of guitar freaks and rockband was just a combo of GH and a drum part ripped off of konami's drummania series...

yet again i post this statement like in all the IIDX videos i commented....

    IIDX>GAYTARHERO

  • actually if you go to an arcade in japan they have guitar freaks and drummania machices hooked up together so can play as a band but i gotta agree with u that gh is better gf

  • Mm, not bad. I almost fell for this... Nah, not really.

    6/10

  • Um DM GF and KBM linked up so you could play as a band with a guitarist, bassist, drums, and piano.

Also, Guitar Hero is NOT an improvement over GF in terms of difficulty, so just shut up please.

  • lol DM and GF and KBM are all available for PS2. At least know what you are talking about before you talk out your ass.

  • The Drummania controller is a joke, and GF, DM, and KBM are NOT available for US consoles! That right there might as well as the same as not having them for consoles at all in the United States. The majority of people would NOT spend the time and money to import them, and given how high quality Rockband is, there's no reason to. In some ways Rockband is better; better note layout and better drum expression.

You seem to be ignoring the major factor; Konami doesn't care about the U.S market!

  • The Konami Drummania controller is a joke, yes, but you can use any electronic drum set hooked up to the PS2. The Yamaha DTX is a crowd favorite. Also, the argument isn't about which is available, it's about which is a better game, and where it is sold has nothing to do with that.

  • Having six keys is more difficult than three keys.

I have never seen gameplay of Guitar Freaks, however, it is only logical that Guitar Hero would be more difficult overall.

I only told you to shutup because you told me to, which is really stupid and annoying.

  • Unfortunately you are wrong. Guitar Freaks does not allow hopo and has a timing system (poor, great, perfect). Because of the lack of hopo's the chord combinations end up being much more challenging.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

  • The timing system would make it more of a challenge. Very true.

You're right in that I didn't fully do my research, but I was going off of looks and what I did know.

Usually I fully know what I'm talking about, but I should have done more research on this.

    Also, what are "HOPO'S" exactly?

Also, FACT still remains that Rockband and GH are still VERY high quality games, and original in that they offer downloadable content, are more expressive on drums, and allow for a COMPLETE band.

  • HOPO is a hammer on pull off, which is where you strum only once and then hit the notes. You can do this in real guitar playing but not to the extent that GH allows you to. There are NO HOPOS in Guitarfreaks which is why it is infinitely more difficult.

Plus, it is a complete band but lacks a piano, which Konami did integrate. The fact is, What Konami did was better and was innovative, where as what Harmonix and Activision do is simply ripping off work that has already been done.

  • Alright, so, from what I know now, GF is more difficult.

However, Rockband is arguably better than GF/DM due to MUCH better peripherals (at least in the drums department), and U.S support!

That's why Harmonix deserves GREAT respect: They made a VERY high quality game for the UNITED STATES MARKET!

Sure they copied the concept of what Konami did, but Konami was being a tight wad about the U.S market, so Harmonix picked up the ball. Secondly, that's how you get better products: Competition!

  • The drums for Rock Band and Guitar Hero do not match realism as accurately as Drummania's arcade cabinets, which is essentially a Yamaha DTXPlorer kit shoved into a box with a screen. Which peripheral is better is not fact, but merely personal preference and taste.

  • Actually, the drums DO match the realism 90% of the arcade cabinet.

The only differences are the cymbals, which with RB 2, is remedied with a cymbal add-on pack that DOES match the realism of the arcade cabinet.

You're still hitting EVERY single note there is in the drum section on Rockband that you would on Drummania, but the pads on Rockband are interchanged for different drums through out the song, which, while isn't as accurate as a full layout like DM, it's VERY close to.

    RB is quality.

  • I'm not trying to make the argument of whether RB, GH, GitaDora or whatever the hell is quality or not. All games being produced by Haromix, Activision and Konami/Bemani are some of the best and most widely regarded in music gaming. Depending on what part of the world you're in, there is an obvious preference for one over the other, but that doesn't mean they flat out suck.

And I could care less about how realistic or unrealistic music games are, as long as they're fun.

  • Right, so don't make a point of whether or not one "copied" one another and use that point to say one game is stupid and not worth playing.

    That's stupidity, ignorance, and disgraceful.

As long as you can appreciate each game, then you are respectable in the gaming industry :]

I don't care if ALL the games are accurate; I do care about the Fun Factor the most, but on certain TYPES of games - such as DJ Simulation - accuracy is appreciated and ULTIMATELY MAKES IT more fun.

    Beatmania is SWEET

  • >Right, so don't make a point of whether or not one "copied" one another and use that point to say one game is stupid and not worth playing.

Anyone that thinks with this mindset doesn't understand how the video game industry works, period.

  • Exactly.

    :]

Would you happen to know the cheapest and most reliable place to buy a Japanese PS2?

  • Play-Asia.

  • just get a US PS2, flip top, and swap magic. ^__^

  • Ah yeah, I forgot about that!

I'll have to check that out. Buying PS2's from Play-Asia is WAY too expensive, even IF it is for Beatmania!

I'm not that much of a fan of IIDX to warrant spending 200 on a PS2, AND spending all that money on games.

In the near future I'm sure I will be, but if there's a cheaper way, then I'll definitely go with that :]

  • Don't forget to check out BemaniASC for some 700 dollar IIDX controllers.

  • I've seen those, and I do plan on getting one someday.

If I do buy an ASC, I will go full out and either get the DJ Dao RES - Real Edition Single, or the Konami ASC.

I like how the Konami ASC is more versatile and is a more FINISHED product - as in more thoroughly built, though the DJ Dao's are of VERY high quality that I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed with - at all.

I would like to go to Japan someday, and while I'm there I'll probably pick up a Konami ASC.

  • What Harmonix and Activision are doing correctly though is catering to their audience and selling remarkably well because of it.

Konami has no idea how to market OR localize their games outside of Asia, and have failed time and time again with many horrible and half-assed attempts for bringing IIDX, GitaDora and even Pop'n Music over. (Let's just pretend Beat 'n Groovy never existed.)

  • Is not having HO/PO's realistic to actual guitar playing?

  • More realistic than GH, yes. Also you talk a lot about DLC, but the only reason guitar hero and rock band need DLC is because their initial songlists are small. GH world tour has only 86 songs, whilst GFDM v3 for PS2 has nearly 150 songs on it, slightly less than twice as much as GH. Plus, keep in mind that all 16 versions of GFDM have around this many songs (except for the initial few) so there are far more songs total than GH or RB. A single arcade machine has nearly 700 songs, for example.

  • Alright, that's cool.

However, what's great about DLC is that you're constantly getting NEW songs, and can ULTIMATELY build up a better, more desirable library than what you can achieve with GF/DM.

Say you only like half the songs on the Konami product, well with Rockband, you can DL whatever songs YOU LIKE, not have to buy a whole new game to get a few select songs you want.

Bottom line: Konami's product is overall better, but Rockband is NEARLY just as good, and VERY high quality.

  • You can't download every song that you want on Rock Band with DLC.

For stuff like that, players resort to DTXMania (Guitarfreaks/Drummania Simulator), Lunative Rave (IIDX Simulator) or Frets on Fire on the PC (Guitar Hero Simulator)

The DLC list may be vast, but you are restricted to what is available on the DLC.

PC Simulators essentially give you unlimited possibilities as to what you choose to play or not.

  • Now you're getting off topic.

    We're talking about official games.

You can download every song you want that is available.

You don't have to buy every "mix" to get the few songs you want off of each mix: Just download them off of the DLC store.

    MUCH better in that area.

  • Not necessarily; some people prefer owning volumes and hard copies rather than purchasing digital or virtual media. Again, one isn't necessarily better than the other. It all boils down to personal preference.

  • Arguably, it IS better. You can still buy the hard-copies of the song-packs, but having the option to download specific songs is a big advantage.

  • Actually, arcade cabinets usually have around 500 songs. But considering how many songs have been created since beatmania's conception, the songlist far exceeds what is available for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. This also includes whatever DLCs are available, and not counting the midi editor found in World Tour.

  • Bemani players do not give a shit about whether a game emulates its real-life counterpart or not. (Hell, look at Pop'n Music.)

What matters is: Is it fun to play?

  • Some do, actually: Me.

As long as it's to a logical, intelligent, and respectable degree given the type of game, I'll love it.

I JUST got Beatmania today (well yesterday actually, but payed my mother off so I can play it today), and it is INCREDIBLE!

I love how the piano section either has you lay down the beat or melody - or sometimes both -, and me being a DJ - while the turntable isn't fully accurate, or accurate all the time, it's still VERY fun, and in some cases, IS somewhat accurate.

  • Konami wasn't bringing quality virtual drumming the U.S and console market (in any region) ANY time soon, so Harmonix picked up the ball and fed a market with a VERY high quality product SIMILAR to Drummania, but NOT a rip-off! They didn't try to use all the pads as Drummania, and didn't try to use all the Japanese music as well.

They might of ripped off of the concept, but the game has original music, GREAT music, GREAT gameplay, and Harmonix put a LOT of passion into it.

    RB IS quality.

  • I hope you know Harmonix was the Original creators for GH and that they sold it to Acclaim after GH 2 to work on Rock band.. This game was out way before GH though I remember actually going to arcades to play it. This was easily before 2k because I was still in High school. If you really want old school Harmonix game though check out frequency and amplitude.

  • Yes, as I said, GH is was TRULY quality before Activision took over and disgraced it their un-passionate quality and money-making schemes.

Dude, I know ALL about Harmonix; my mother bought me Frequency when I was a youngin', and I bought Amplitude some years later. Those are two of my most favorite games of all time - and always will be.

  • Sad to say that it'll never catch on here because it'll be "too hard" for everyone. There's a reason why Konami's US release (no matter how horrible it was) didn't even make a splash, or even a tiny ripple.

The controller was awesome though. Felt better than the Japanese version.

  • I've got an arcade about an hour from where I live with a Pop'n Fever machine. I swear everytime I go there, I am the only person that plays on that machine the entire time I'm there. I always see people standing behind me watching me play, and I keep asking them "Do you want to try?" And every single one of them declines the offer.

I'd like to at least play in an arcade one of these days with people that play Bemani games aside from DDR. I'm always forced to play by myself.

  • DDR is the only Bemani game I'm not that interested in. There is only four buttons and you sweat too much when you play it :D When I played Stepmania with Dance Mat I sweat like I have never before... I didn't sweat that much even when I did a Cooper test (Also I'm not fat). I have never got a chace to play Beatmania/Pop'n Music/Drummania in an arcade :(

  • you fail for not researching what original IP comes first now fuck off!

  • Comment removed

  • sarcasm isnt the easiest thing to detect thru the internet, sir

  • You think this is a ripoff of dj hero? looool. beatmania has been around for so much longer than GH, RB and dj hero.. which isnt even out. GH was inspired by beatmania, even.

  • good job! dont forget the other bemani games, they are the OG rhythm games! GF,BM,DM, and DDR FTW.

  • Guitar Hero is coming out with DJ Hero? I think it's fricken retarded...Rip-off of Beatmania...Beatmania FTW!

  • yes it is but . im gutted the onlty made the first beatmania for the uk. no more where released. booooooooooooo. dj max portable for psp was a great one, but i say bring on dj here for europe.

  • Great to see IIDX getting English press coverage :)

  • Looks like Buttonmania

  • sonofabich

  • When is it coming out for PS2?

  • my guess is late 2009

  • im a huge fan for beatmania

  • heh. i recognize him from the Golden Cross video

  • Bemani and Konami for life

  • LOL that was the worst review I've seen in years, but at least that japanese guy confirmed empress was designed for the female demographic.

  • Yea like we needed someone to tell us...

  • because that was a review.

  • He should have confirmed that musically talented players can do it with the TV turned off.

  • BEMANI FOR LIFE

  • This game is crazy fun :D
