@mahuiki It is a lunch bag but not insulated. Just enough fabric to keep the cold ground from sucking the heat out of your meal. Insulated would be much better. These are from the dollar store ... if they get insulated ones we will upgrade. LOL Thanks for your comment and question ;-)
@EconoChallenge Finally picked some of this up! It was great, but i personally thought it would be a little better with about half a cup of water LESS than the recommended amount. mine came out a bit more runny for my taste. otherwise very very good.
@EconoChallenge fair enough, and not to denounce the other folks, but its the way this guy delivers it, i think. I'm fairly new to the store bought freeze dried food market but i've noticed that a lot of them do lol. I was wondering, if you guys get the chance, could you try Mountain House Sweet and Sour pork with rice?
You know, they could make freeze dried cat shit, and if this man did the review i would probably buy a case of it just because he made it look good.. This man is good at his job!
@RevArto Kind of a group effort but thank you for the cool comment. Just between you and me, some of the meals we have tried look like they did freeze drie cat shit.
Hello There, I hope all is well. My name is the tiredhiker, and I have a number ten meal you can try,It is hawks viddles in the Shrimp Whimsy, and also the African stew........You will give them a num15 on the scale of 1-10.
You can order them on line at hawks viddles.just google the name and enjoy!
I promise you won't be disappointed , tiredhiker ---aka-- (Shane)
@fistratedfisher Hello Shane. Glad you enjoyed the BackCountry Meal Review. Shug did a meal review on the Hawk Viddles ... North African Stew. He gave it an 11. His meal review helped us discover that we can not get the stuff shipped to Canada! Now if you wanted to do a review for us .... that would be very cool. Perhaps the Shrimp Whimsy?
@Samanthafunny28 We agree. We have not found another brand that comes close. If you find one let us know. It would be hard to beat a 9 out of 10. Me ... I wanted to leave room just in case we find one that is better. Thanks for all your comments!
The lasagna is my fave on the trail. I do alot of my own dehydrating but I still use some of the MH meals for lunch on the trail. They're convenient and most are quite good.
GREAT video! Very informational (and enjoyable) to watch.
I can't say I've ever had a 'bad' freeze-dried Mountain House meal. Those I've tried have all been excellent. I would be curious to see you review the (somewhat) new menu of "Seafood Chowder". Feel adventurous?
@EPCBear Your feedback is much appreciated. Seafood Chowder was a late suggestion for this year but it is on the list. I love this meal cooked fresh so we shall see how Mountain House does it. Thank you for your suggestion.
Add more salt?? the sodium content of all MH foods is really high.. although when you have trekked a fair bit and settled down for the night you really need to replenish your electrolides so i guess its not bad but for your kidney sake dont add more
@ojii111 Thank you. I do not like to add until I have tried the meal at least once as is. Viewers keep mentioning that MH has a lot of salt. Something we should look into a little more.
I dehydrated a lasagna I made and It turned out great I like to know whats in my food and can adjust the taste mountain house does make good products though great review
Thanks for the very helpful reviews. I apologize if this has been covered, but I am curious about your burlap sack hammock and that little pot warmer bag thingy with velcro seal. Can you point me towards any info on where/how to equip myself with those items? Many thanks, and keep up the great videos!
@KarlMaldensNose Not covered yet. You are the first to ask. The coffee sac comes from a fair trade coffee shop. Just ask and they may have a few just waiting to be converted into the hammock chair. The lunch bag is from dollarama. They work great for up to a 6" pot
@EconoChallenge Thanks, Eco. I just checked out thermal bags for pots at MEC yesterday and they ran about $12. I prefer the dollar store version's price. Take it easy.
Very good, I pack in fresh eggs and on my 2nd or 3rd day out I take some cheese powder from my MH Mac&Cheese. Then I mix the cheese powder in the scambled eggs and have cheese eggs for breakfast. Yum.
i like meal reviews. but you can't really go wrong with mountain house. but, there's just something about lasagna, in the woods while camping - it just doesn't seem right somehow. i dunno, but regular meat & veg just seems more 'natural' i guess, more 'feng shui' if you will - even though i certainly am a big fan of italian food - oh well - i guess after a long day on the trail it would prolly transport you out of the bush and into your dining room at home - now i see the beauty of it -
Great comment. Please don't forget to add the comfortable seat to go with the great meal. Then you just might make it all the way back to your dinning room at home ... almost.
I'm glad you enjoyed my favorite backpacking meal. I have to say that you boys in Canada are WAY tougher than I am given that fact that you are out in "1" degree whether. Wow! I'm going to check your reviews to see what you think is an 9 or a 10 so I can try that!
Thanks for your suggestion. It gets us out into the wilderness. It was 1 Celsius my friend that is about 34 Fahrenheit. I did not want you thinking I was out in Yukon cold. Just Ontario cold.
We have yet to find a freeze dried meal from any manufacture that rates a 9 out of 10. Maybe a viewer will give us one to try.
thanks for the shout out. it is nice to see people actually use comments and suggestions. i have also eaten the mountain house scrambled eggs and bacon. i must say it was nasty. i would rate it 2 out of 10. lets see what you think.
Nasty is a good description. Check out BackCountry Meal Review - Spinach Cheese Omelette - for suggestions that will take powdered egg meals from a 3 out of 10 to a 7! We do agree with you. Prepared according to the directions gives you a pot full of yuk!
that is one of my FAVORITES. Ill tell you what guys, i just started dehydrating my own foods and i really enjoy it. you can make some great meals for cheap, great video
We have tried this ourselves but always come back to the commercially prepared versions. I do take my own dehydrated beef jerky. Really good. Thanks for your comment.
I really enjoy watching your meal reviews, I have a question about your cozy for your pot, is that just an insulated lunch bag?

can you do a review on powerbars for emergency/outdoors
Awaketime 1 year ago
@Awaketime Sure can. We don't carry power bars so we need you to make a really good suggestion. Maybe we will start carrying them.

I think that's my favorite MH meal.

@Bustertb Thank you. These comments make the review more credible. My favourite MH meal is still Beef Strogannoff.
