  • Finally see a video of you. I sent you an email today, :) what a surprise to see you here. Hope to see you out there. Likely hagg lake.

  • Very helpful ive been useing texas rigs and have never fished with this going to try it soon and see what happens bye the way what hook do you use.

  • @AllThatRemainsScape It's a size 4 octopus hook by Gamakatsu.

    Roger

  • @exbassguide Ah man I wish I would of known this sooner I just went to gander mountain and bought some random hooks oh well now I know.

  • helpful. thanks.

  • how much times should you raise the tip

  • @9TAMR I cast the senko let it fall to the bottom. I then lower the rod tip, reel in slack and then start shaking rod tip. As I shake the rod tip I will start to get some slack line and as I do I raise up the rod tip to take up the slack line. As I get slack line that I have moved the rod tip strait up I then stop shaking drop rod tip and reel in the slack fishing line and then I start shaking again. as long as your lure is near (5 feet) the cover you repeatthe process.

    Roger

  • spot casting with a wacky rig is super effective, ive found. more effective than working it like say a texas rig where you cast way out and work it in. i just spot cast to lily pads, let it sink, then reel in for another spot cast. i havent tried that in other times of the year yet so working it might work better later this year, but so far during spawn and post spawn the bass have just been murdering the spot cast wacky for me

  • Thumbs up for the 3+ catch and release - the sign of a real fisherman.

  • I must have watched this video 20 times and I just now noticed you run the line over your free hand while jerking the rod tip. I'm gonna try that next time!

  • Id like go fishin with u bro u know the deal and every single shred of advice u give is spot on perfect so id like to name my baby largemouth after u

  • Dude i love you

  • Thanks for the tip roger i was wondering how to fish this rig. I'll give it a try tomorrow! Catch and release :)

  • @exbassguide so anytime you feel one bite you set the hook?

  • @Deepseafishingisfun Yes but it take a couple seconds before I do, I drop the rod tip then reeling in slack line and set the hook.

    Roger

  • At what time do you set the hook? I'm a beginner and I'm confused.

  • @Deepseafishingisfun When you feel the bite, reel down (take up any slack) and set the hook HARD!

    Roger

  • thank you so much very good video! you have a new subscriber.

  • Hi Roger,

What size hook would you use to texas rig these? I've got a few size 2 Gamma EWG hooks but they look a little big.

  • @sambith Yes the Size 2 EWB works great. But if you would like a little smaller hook the Size 1 hook works very good as well!

The may look a bit big but they are the best size for that bait.

    Roger

  • i never thoughof using a 3 inch senko for bass i use them for big crappie ill try it for bass thanks for the idea

  • Well are there any other tips you can give to a beginner because i have tried all those things when I went fishing at the resivor and i didn't even get a bite.

  • @1swaggakiddmike downed trees and docks mid-day fish rocks early, Talk with local sporting goods store people about locations. Try dragging a texas rigged 3 inch senko type lure. I will try to do a video of this way of fishing. Bass are on the bottom 90 % of the time. So keeping your lures near the bottom will help. Bass are shallow early but lots of them move deeper as the sun comes out or they move to thicker cover. Hope this helps! Roger

  • @exbassguide Hi there Roger, I'm only 14 but I've fished My entire life lol... I use alot of soft baits and worms, but also crankbaits rattle traps and such. do you have any videos of some technique with em? i know alot just wanted to see if theres any I don't know lol, thanks(:

  • are you suppose to use a wait

  • @1swaggakiddmike Yes you REALLY need to ude a SMALL weight. 1/64 of an oz. is enough weight to keet your bait down.

    Great Question!

    Roger

  • @1swaggakiddmike A weight make the bait more effective! It keeps the bait down in the water colum and near the bass. This is a BIG BASS lure!!!!!!!!!!!

    Roger

  • all u bait caster fisher man help! im new to baitcasters and i have a question. it seems when ever i use a plastic my line doesnt rap around the reel very tight, which makes the line easer to dig into the spool because baitcasting reels have a horizontal spool, this never happens when im using a rapala or a spinner because there is always resistance on the line when retrieving so it stays nice and tight. help!!

  • @shootinshotguns Try using a good spinning rod. It will be much better for you!

    Roger

  • @shootinshotguns well if your using a light plastic such a the on e in this video, use a spinning reel. But if your line is still doing that with heavier baits hold your fingers on the line just in front of the reel to put tension, and it also gives you some good feel.

  • at first i hated this guy because he looked creepy, however he seems like a awsome fisherman!...He always seems excited and he's really nice..it seems so...col vids man..this is one of my favorite channels now ...

  • hey roger i have a couple questions, so first of all my 4" senko doesnt seem to have much movement when i rig it weedless on 1/0 offset shank hooks! i havent caught a fish on it yet and ive fished these baits a couple times! is wacky rigging better, do you get more movement?

  • @shootinshotguns Just give the bait time! Keep trying it. Try fishing the bait at dawn (first light). The wacky rig is great for open water like around docks or the edge of pad fields. But if you are fishing cover that an open hook will hang up on then you should switch to the texas rig. You will get more movement from the wacky rig, BUT the are getting more acction from your texas rig than you know!

senko type baits are the best bass lure of all time (I think!). Learn to skip under docks

  • @exbassguide ok i will. hey im looking into getting a baitcasting reel combo for under 100$ for bass. ive been using my lightweight diawa rod and my lightweight abu garcia spinning reel that i usually use for trout so im guessing a baitcaster with a longer rod and everything will help me with the way my lures and jigs move

  • i have some of thoses

  • what type action of rod should i use and should the tip be soft cause thats what i got and i dont think that is right but jus dont know please reply thank you man

  • i wonder why this guy didn't catch a fish in this video

  • i fished a 3 inch senko at a little pond and caught 23 bass and 1 bluegill

  • thanks for the tips

  • WHERE YOU LOCATED AT, IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR IN WA or OR.

  • @TheJS3 I live in Oregon and fish in Oregon and Washington state!

    I'm from Portland.

    Roger

  • Thanks for the tips Roger!. I've never used these yet but just bought a few packs of different colors (Natural and Brights) and the appropriate hooks today. I heard they are the greatest thing since sliced bread for bass and am about to head out for a 4 day fishin trip tomorrow in central Ontario, Canada. I've seen other vids of anglers using these in the past and my first instinct was this wont work, its presentation doesn't look natural but from local anglers I've talked to, they really work.

  • Thank you for the tip.

  • shoulda looked here sooner. so thats how to use a wacky senko. thanks bro

  • what kind of rod/reel do you use?

  • @remonadeprease I love the team daiwa "terra" "td-tr 602mhfs" spinning rod

and a maching shamono reel is a great setup!!!!

    Roger

  • Yep, the senko is my personal bait of choice. it seems to be what the fish on the local lake prefer

  • Great stuff! 5*

  • If I buy a 5 incher can I cut it down to 3 inch?

Or will the cutted odd shaped tail of the worm make the worm less attractive to the bass?

  • can you cut a screw driver into a wrench?

Just get some 3 inch senko baits and try the real thing! I would not tell you about a bait that was not VERY good!!!!!!!!!!

    Roger

  • r u usin it weightless

  • I almost always use weight look at the link on the right side of the video.

    THANKS FOR ASKING!!!

    Roger

  • Hi I'm on a high school bass fishing team.

We went fishing to a local lake today. I was using a 5 inch YUM WTMLN RED FLK weaky worms with size 1 south bend weedless hooks, i didn't have any size 4 hooks so i used these.the difference betwen your rig and mine was that i rigged it with out a weight. Thanks to your advices I've cought 2, 3 pounders and one 2.5 pounder, but lost 3 other fish, any ideas what i could do different? What other brands should i use?

    Thanks.

  • Sorry for taking so much time to answer! Try reeling down before your hook set. Drop the rod tip reel slack and slam home the hook. if you loose fish check your hook point, you may need to sharpen or change out your hook.

    thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • Thats cool that ur on a highschool team I am too and i love it. Are you in Illinois?

  • YES! I'm in Illinois. can't wait until the ice melts =) I'm prepering for the sectionals last year we won. but got 13th place in state, well we'll see how it'll go this year. Cheers.

  • YOU HAVE A BASS FISHING TEAM AT YOUR HIGHSCHOOL!?!?! Luckyyy!!!! lol

  • Yea, if you don't have one it's very easy to start it. Just get a sponsor, and the principal has to aprove it. Than you can take part in turnaments. Good Luck!

  • @patryklucarz Tournaments*

  • the senko is my favorite bait. i use the yum brand strike king and also gary yamamoto. they all work just as well.

  • its mid dummer down here and the water is pretty green any idea what color i should use?

  • two type of colors will work. Bright or dark colors. Try chart. then try black and see what one the bass like best. yellow and white work good. purple and green pumpkin work good. Look for shade mid-day and fish it look for good cover in shade.

    Roger

  • hey man great tips... Im trying to get into senko fishing is it ok to use 5 inch? Thanks

  • use 3 and 5 inch and let the bass tell you what they like! I find the 3 inch are much more productive.

    Roger

  • hey roger is it ok if i use smaller size hook?

  • I ALWAYS use a size 4, octapus hook. I would not go smaller you will miss fish.

    Roger

  • amazing lake

  • awesome vid i watched all your vids and they all gave me great tips and ideas thanks!

  • @hugelargemouths Thank you!

    Roger

  • just the vid i was looking 4 ...thanx keep em comin

  • great video..superior to the sponsored guys.

  • Hey roger i love your videos, My best Bait for bass Is A senko rigged waky style*****

  • More people should give it a try!

    They work very good!

    Do you shake your senko?

    Thanks

    Roger

  • Ya you need to shake it. I like to use it around docks and logs. The bass cant stand it, Its my go to bait. My best color is PINK AND WHITE

  • try nalural colors mid-day like browns and greens for BIG bass!

    Roger

  • what kind and size of line do you use?...there is a regular 3" and a fat 3" Senko ,have you used both? if so which one do you prefer? How deep will you fish this rig?

  • I like using stren magna thin for small mouth bass and I use that line or berkly fireline for large mouth bass. I like the redular 3 inch it has better wiggle. I fish from one foot to 60 feet deep for bass normaly fish less than 10 feet deep for L.M. bass and 15' or less for SM bass.

    Roger

  • Just have to say the 3" works better in cooler water but as the water warms I move up in size.

  • I fish bigger lures when the water is cold like jigs and as the water warm I got to my wacky senko and catch hundreds of bass!

    Roger

  • What colors do you like and when? How do you apply the sinker? I use a jighead in deep water. I fish in almost all steep and deep shale rock shores.

  • white early browns and greens midday and I have posted a link for a good photo of this rig, you can find it to the right of my video. You may need to click the "more info" link (blue line). Jig head hooks cost more than my set up but they do work.

    Roger

  • is this a good setup for largemouth as well as smallmouth?

  • I like it better for large mouth but I got a 6pound 4 oz smally with this setup!!!! It works great for ALL bass!!!!

    Roger

  • Do you always use a sinker?

  • when fishing wacky yes I use a very small weight, maybe 1/32 oz. It helps get the bait down to the bottom and helps keep it low in the water colum!

    Roger

  • 97% of the time I use a sinker. It helps keep in low in the water column. But its a very light weight, about 1/32 to 1/16th oz

    Roger

  • The problem I have with the 3 inch senko is that it does not seem to have that pronounced tail wiggle when it falls like the 5 inch senko does. I watched them both in a clear swimming pool and I can't tell the 3 inch senko has any tail wiggle. I wish it did. I mostly stick with the 5 inch senko for this reason and have caught some 5-7 pounders on it.

  • Do not sell the lure short. If you have not fished it you do not know how efective it is. This lure will flat out fish the 5 inch 90% of the time. I only try telling people about this great lure because it is an out standing lure. I catch the bass on the shake not as much on the fall. They are hitting the action I give it. This is a look most bass will never see and that = more bass I have hooked four bass over 5 ponds on this rig and that includes bass over 8 pounds. Just try it!

    Thanks

    Roger

  • you can become a better fishermen if you try things that seasoned fishermen are helping you with. Just give the bait a try and you WILL be glad you did. Do not get hung up on one aspect of the lure. also it is not 5 bass over 5 lbs is really 15, I mistyped. I got 732 bass last year and almost all came using this lure. I have fished many years and with al kinds of lures. I fish this bait every day I fish but some days other lures are more productive, but that is rare. Im just trying to help!

    :-)

  • Thank you very much sir. I will be sure to send you pictures of the fish i caught using the technique you taught me.

  • thank for the advise. should i try a slow retrieve? dead sticking? how would you recommend i work the senko?

  • in early spring I would fish it slow and also try dead sticking. I would also try shaking it. just fish it slow but as the water warms up I switch to just shaking 75% of the time.

    Thanks!

    Roger

  • I would shake it . I just shake it softer in cool water. You can let the bait fall to the bottom and sit there a couple seconds before you start shaking it again. that could help a bunch at times in the spring.

    Roger

  • How would I use this bait in clear water for sketchy finicky bass? California seems to only hold those type of bass.

  • clear water and finicky bass try natural lure colors like browns and greens. Also try this lure I have in the video it is a 3 inch senko and it catches big bass! This is a great setup for clear water and/or finicky bass!!! Good luck and Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • typically a Gamakatsu #1 or 2 is used.Owner Mosquito Hooks are quite popular also.

  • thanks... is there a certain hook you have to have for a wacky rig?

  • Size 4 octopus hook (Gamakatsu)

  • hey man i was wondering if fishing senkos in grass and "seaweed" with pitching and flipping like a jig? cus my lake soon as mid aprils is here is full of moss. I was also wondering id you ever fished topwater worms and if they can produce around this time.

If you can help me out man send me a message to my account 5 stars subbed and the videos are awsome man

  • A buzz bait works good over weeds also try some of the topwater frogs. If you can find holes in the weed drop the senko in and hang on!

    Roger

  • nice richard hoep you have another great year and you'll be seeing me soon on youtube.

  • hey what kind of rod and reel where you using?

  • the reel is a Mitchell "Avocet" S4000.

The rod is old and they do not make them any more: Abu Garcia crossfireCFS 59MF 6 foot.

    Hope that helps!

    Roger

  • Good tips im sure this well help a lot of fishermen out
