"Coyote" is the name for the 5.0. With my budget the way it is, I'll be looking for a v6 with the performance package this summer. GT suspension, brakes, and gearing. A few years into the 5.0 I'll buy a GT, without the traditional bugs and problems that plague brand new engine platforms.
I just sold my 2009 v6 at a good price to put a deposit on a 2011 v6, why would anyone have bought the 2010 v6, it will be almost worthless by Sept 2010.
Price.. discounts are coming big time, and I can get into a new base v6 for 15k and change. That's over 6k off, and with that savings, I could supercharge the 4.0 to get into the high 300's to possibly low 400's hp.
One thing we don't really know is how much the new v6 can be modded. If we use the SHO as an example, it takes 2 twin turbos to get an additional 45-55 hp, but we don't know if that comparison is valid either.
oh, it will depreciate just like any other car, and maybe more so, but with the cheaper price point, I figure it is a wash.
The main point I was making is, you could spend 21+k on a 2011 and get 305hp. or you could spend about the same on a 2010 (discount price + supercharger mods) and end up with more hp.
I am not that technical and would be afraid of modding a car to the point of voiding the warranty,
But if you know what you are doing I have heard of people getting much more hp from the current v6 than the gt v8, with, I wish they would sort out the medievil back axle while they were at it too.
Cool new engine, but styling and interior wise I would say the camaro will still be better, the rear of the mustang is ugly, and the interior has yet to unlock its full potential, maybe the next generation of stang will be better... especially in the ass lol
Wow yours is a very smart comment Fred. The same you just have commented is what my son says about the camaro and I get mad everytime because I think the Challenger is better.
The 5.0 is cool and all, but GODDAME it this V6 is awesome. No more secretary car. Glad to say it, the Camaro RIP 1967-2002, 2010-2011, killed by the same murderer...... Mustang.
You are completely right about it TheMikeyEl, this commentator just throw a line to the air without even know what he is saying. The 4.0 has been in the stangs since the 2005 model year. Ford has used it in other cars like the Explorer and Ranger and Mercury Mountaineer and land Rover LR3.
i think the 4.0 has only been in the mustang since 05 before that they had a 3.8L right? correct me if i'm wrong. i know ford has used the 4.0 forever though just not in the stang.
That specific engine was first used on the 1997 explorer, which itself was closely related to the original 4.0L V6 from 1990. However the engine family itself was designed in 1968 and was first used in the Mustang beginning in 1974. The 3.8 was an Essex V6 which was used in the Mustang since 1982. Ford switched back to the 4.0L cologne V6 to save money when the Essex was discontinued in favor of the duratec 35.
he meant the 4.0 block has been out for a while..that motor has been out since late 60s..also..im glad i bought my 01 3.8 in 06 cuase i would have been pissed if i bought a 4.0 then this came out..and finally a base v6 that can smoke ricers left and right. our old v6's had enough trouble with some 4 cylinders(k20's/h22's) ex.
The 355 HP is referring to another vehicle on the floor. The next GT is expected to produce over 400 HP (from what I have read, either 400 or 405 HP).
So, Dodge is next I guess. Time to get that minivan V6 engine out of the Charger and Challenger and, oh yeah, toss a fun stick in there as well. I'm not a "Mopar, Ford, Bow Tie" guy. I'm a car guy. I'll get what I like at the time. At this time, I like the Camaro...when this new V6 in the Mustang comes out, I'll be a Mustang guy. When Dodge does something about their shitty V6...well, I see a Challenger in my future. Once Ford puts that ecoBoost engine in the Mustang, its over...
It's about time! Ford has been in the dark ages on engine performance since ... well, the dark ages. I've always said that Ford would never update the engine unless people stopped buying the Mustang. Why would they? People continued to buy the Mustang year after year despite the same dismal performance. Probably why GM and others are failing despite all the "free" gov. money and Ford posted a $1 billion profit last quarter.
Ha ha! I feel bad for 2010 Mustang GT owners. They're destined to look at the2011 Mustang V6's tailpipes, which will be significantly cheaper then they paid for their GT's.
can't wait for the new 5.0 mustang, its gonna kill the camaro and it would be awesome if it could hang with the gt500. maybe with a cam, full exhaust, intake, tune it will keep up or even beat it.
Well after many failed updates ford finally got rid of that dinosaur of an engine, I mean a 4 litre V6 making only 200 or so hp?? in 2010?? wow thats sad. Now Ford, how long is it going to take for you to change the rear ford ranger suspension???????
Mike... Are you saying you were born after 2005? Cuz that's when the 4L V6 came into the Mustang. I think you need to learn some automotive details if you want to work for an auto magazine!
but the original incarnation of the engine was originally developed in 1968, that may be what the guy was getting at. A 41 year old engine updated and updated over the decades is still an old ass engine haha! the 3.7 gonna be sweet!
That's true, but that's not what the reporter stated. He says "in the Mustang", which means he's trying to convince us that his information is correct, which is misleading. I know there's a bunch of Stang and Ford fans here and I know they know their stuff, but that's why it's important for reporters (especially paid ones) to get their information right. It's not like it's hard to find out the right info in a situation like this.
You so sure the car's gonna come in at the low $20's? I'm highly speculative about that. Figure a significant increase in price to match (or just slightly beat) the V6 Camaro.
@BSRGodfather, nope price isn't going up!! The only way you can price this car more than a camaro is by adding a boat load of options that the Camaro V6 or SS does notor offer as an option, Navigation package, Panoramic roof pretty much anything that's cool.
The Camaro V6 is a lot heavier than this Mustang, what ever the power advantage it has it gone. since now Mustang produces more power/more toque and weighs in close to 300lbs less.
The question that beggs to be asked is why the 3.5TT ecoboost V6 didn't find it's way into the stang? The 3.5 making 355hp @ 25mpg in the SHO/MKS. Being that the stang is approx. 1000lbs lighter than the SHO the fuel economy would be comparable to this 3.7. oh well, at least they retired the 4.0.
It's just a slightly larger version of the old 3.8L V6. The 4.6L V8 is a classic and a great engine. The V6 is a dinosaur. It had no power and it's fuel economy was a joke.
you know...this is pissing me off. here i am driving a 3.8L that only gets 150hp and like 20mpg and they decide to drop a car with double the hp and better fuel economy...smh...better start saving up some cash.
danrn right lol. Im thinking that the Z28 will either be Eaton Supercharged LS3, or it will use a variant of the LS7 from the Z06...has to be one of those 2, unless they bring out a new motor, which i seriously doubt. But i imagine the Z28 will come out late 2011
