if you like syd's music, please check out my music! Search for Roger Delarge on facebook or youtube! Syd is my favorite artist and a huge inspiration for me! thanks ;)
@153anthony8901 actually.. Pink Floyd willingly admitted they were inspired by The Beatles. The reason why a lot of the songs sounded like that back than is because nearly every band that came after was inspired by The Beatles.
This and Matilda Mother are 2 of my favorites from Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Syd Barrett was, in my opinion, one of the great song writers of the generation that no one knows about. Pink Floyd was OK after they sort of let him go but the '66-'68 Pink Floyd are the superior incarnation.
@dannydavis94 i agree, im a big pink floyd fan, i just dont care much for their most early stuff, ive done my damn best to force myself to like it, but i just dont. but every thing from about 1971 and up was great..
@DnTTrix08 You're rude. This song is special to me. I hold it close my heart. And yes, I do know the story behind this song, thank you very much. You're just a typical internet troll. Just trying to pick a fight with some girl named Emily. Pshh...I'm wasting my time on you. And no, the name Emily isnt just a name.
@PunkyPink85 LOL i am not trying to pick a fight but I am just saying we don't care if your name is emily how does this relate to this song, it's like if I was named syd i wouldn't go on one of his vids and say "oh look how special I am, I am named after a psychadelic legend praise me" you know it's just annoying.
this song never gets old. Syd Barrett later explained how this songs meaning was made up. He made up that he was slept in the woods and woke up seeing a girl for the song to be more interesting. "All for publicity" is what he said exactly
Sure, they were influenced by the Beatles, but, with Syd Barrett, they sounded like nothing that came before them. This, for me, is easliy Pink Floyd's best period. After Syd they became to self-indulgent.
@Stemax1960 I agree. This song does heavily sound like A song writtin by The Beatles, but the sound is pretty unique. Not quite like Lennon or McCartney's voice.
This song along with Status Quo Matchstick men and Beegees new york mining disaster 1941 are without doubt the best songs these bands ever made--not that the later stuff was bad but these are just so raw and honest
It was the time when Pink floyd sounded like The Beatles, I hate that... I don't say it's bad but it's definitely not the period of pink floyd I like...
Acid is the only way to fly. I first flew in the late sixties and have never been gounded since, I 've seen Emily play and been to the moon and back. The crazy diamond Syd was a gem. See you in the big gig in the sky.
@Glen2k1 Supposedly Emily Young, daughter of Lord Kennet, who used to hang out with the Floyd in the early days when she was a teenager. She became a notable British sculptress.
"it's unclear whether Emily was real or a drug induced hallucination" after that Syd Barret lost his mind, and despite all that people still take LSD today...
i bet they would have broken up. with my limited archaeological knowledge. they would be The Hollies or something. they wouldn't be around until the wall that's for sure. to all of you. you're OLD!!! MUAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! good song though.
Sounds like the beatles? I don't think so, though I respect both bands, pink floyd is another matter, they're way to great to be compared (with or without Syd)
Dont get me wrong, but i honestly like floyd after barret left. I dont know why. Its just that it sounds much more meditated and thought out. Early floyd sounded like they were making it up on the spot. But i still do love this song and album.
That and all the loud music. Everyone seems to forget that people who listen to Syd's music are connected to the mentally insane. Roger couldn't stand listening to it so he drugged him to accelerate the problem, which could've happened anyway. Can't blame Roger. Syd's music was boring and repetitive anyway.
@BrokenChair88 here, that's what i mean you prick, if you don't give a lame comment like: pink floyd wrote dogs, i see another even more lame comment like this one: Thank God Pink Floyd fed him acid to get him out of the band...... you must be really stupid indeed en deserve to get molested by some kind of old man reading boring poems.... syd was the best, without syd there was no TPATGOD, dark side of the moon, wish you were here, no pink floyd what so ever, oh my gosh, you are such an idiot..

Early Pink Floyd is The Beatles mixed with more freedom and progressivism.
As they kept playing and evolving (and after they lost Syd Barrett), they started to get a lot more experimental.
All of Pink Floyd's eras are brilliant in their own right.
