  • I have the same exact laptop. The colors are inverted but when I connect my tv to it via HDMI, the colors are perfectly fine so the video card is good I assume. What could it be?

  • This video just made me $75. Thanks!

  • Nice video, missed close ups, but its a good video. Uhmm that cover around the keyboard has a missing screw (bottom left corner).

  • It almost seems like there is a way to replace the screen without the full disassembly.

Couldn't this be done just at the display bezel level?

  • HI, what is the thin white wire near the right hand side speaker? near the cross sign that seems to go all the way through, mine is sticking out don't where it is supposed to be plugged in?

  • i have a flickering green/purple line at the bottom of my screen, it started as a couple of pixels and is slowly getting bigger over time, another line has occasionally started to appear at the top, any advice as to the problem.

  • I just wanted to thank you for posting this video. While I sometimes had some trouble seeing what you were doing with some of the connections behind your hands, this was very helpful to me, as I had a customer who wanted her damaged screen replaced. Three hours later (after taking more then a few glances at the video), and it's working great! Thanks again! :D

  • so for my laptop which is this one, the screen is negative colors and theres a hige crack down the middle would changing the screen help both of those

  • Hey,, isnt there another to only replace the lcd screen??? do i really have to loose everything???

  • My screen jumps about 3 times rapidly every 3 seconds. It generally is fine after resting all night for at least 5-10 minutes then it starts jumping. Do I need to replace the entire screen? (and i cannot increase the refresh rate, it remains at 60)

  • Thanks...!

  • my screen show nothing but it will show using an external monitor does the screen need to be replaced or is the connection loose

  • i need help, i'm trying to fix the monitor for my friend, the screen shows nothing but horizontal lines, that change color. i got to the login screen and i could make out the little icon, but it was all stretched in between the lines. i was thinking that some of the cables might be bad. so i had to disassemble it and then put it back together. and after i was done, it was exactly the same. should i get a new set of cables? and if so where can i get the same specific ones?

  • how on earth did i end up with extra screws?

  • screensurgeons video is much easier, you dont need to take anything off the back of the laptop

  • @mikkobc88 Many times the screw can break off from the LCD top case cover. This can be an expensive repair unless you can find good used parts. I do not know if that is the case with your laptop without looking at it 1st.

  • okay i need a new screen but i cannot find any screens that fit my dv4 laptop their all just desktop computers do you know where i can get one thans

  • Thanks for the great how to vid. I changed my dv4 laptop screen and everything seemed to go okay, but my screen is dark. I can see a faint image but its pretty much dark. I am thinking there is some kind of switch that makes the laptop think the screen is closed even when its opened. Image is fine on a tv screen via HDMI cord. Thoughts, advice??

  • @bobino9245 I would recommend 1st checking all the connections, especially the connection between the Screen and Inverter Board. Good luck!

  • @bobino9245 change the inverter

  • Awesome video!

    Greatly appreciated tutorial.

My only recommendation to anyone changing their display is to put some of the foil over the 'HP' led on the outside of their case and the display as I can see the led though the LCD. Not a huge deal and I'm not about to rip it all back apart to put something between them but just a suggestion to anyone in the future.

Thanks again, saved me a ton of money as I had a working display in an old acer aspire 5570 that coincidentally had a compatable display

  • What did you do with the foil? Is it OK to just take it completely off and leave it off?

  • @nflballer78 The new screens do not typically come with foil. That has never been a problem. Just install the screen as it comes new, without foil.

  • hi im not sure what to do with mines. the backlight fuctions normally but no faint image. the weird thing is sometimes if i open the screen at a 45 degree angle and power on it works and no problems with movement after that until i power off on then its blank again. if it was loose cable i should be getting flickering when moving screen. this is weird don't know what to replace

  • @moppoop I would recommend checking all the connections and reseating them so that you know for sure it is not a loose connection. It may not be loose but may be oxidized. Not all the time is a connection just loose. Always unplug then plug back in to know for sure. I would be happy to check the connections for you at my shop.

  • If possible, can you tell me what parts where needed for this repair ant the part numbers?

  • @TooSwag4TV In this video I replace the LCD screen. The part number would be located on the back of the screen. Some HP DV4 laptops have LED and some LCD screens. You would want to find your exact part number before ordering a screen to be sure you are getting the right screen.

  • @FastVideoTech thank you so much man! I must say, i really appreciate you because i just spent 2 hr on the phone with Hp and because my laptop is out of warranty the passed me around like i had the cooties! its a shame man such a a shame. I paid $700 for this Dv4 series laptop and this is how they treat their customers? I guess you showed them!! Thanks again man!!

  • @TooSwag4TV No prob! I would be happy to replace the screen for you if that is necessary and do a free estimate at my shop, you just pay return shipping. Good luck!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I love how easy you made taking those 2 little bastard screw covers off look. I about broke the lcd making a little profit turn into a huge loss. I hate hp, people please stop buying them.

  • @db336 lol, your welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • Hi, I just repaired and modified the heatsink on my DV4T-1400, after having a corrupted video issue which i also fixed.. Now, it turns on correctly and eveything, but about every 5 seconds about 2MM of green comes up on the bottom of my monitor, that spans the whole distance. Could the cause of this be the corrupted video issue, or is it a loose video cable?

  • Went back and checked all connections and found loose wire behind screen! Thanks so much! It works great!

  • @6641ymca That's awesome! Thanks for letting me know.

  • Not sure it's all apart right now. Just wanted to check on the part # before I button it up again. It was working with the old screen. I'm replacing it because my son cracked it.

  • Well I took it all apart again and noticed that the original screen is a LP141WX3(TL)(N2) an the replacement is all the same except for (N4). Are they interchangeable? The store I bought it from told me it is the replacement number. Thanks for your quick response earlier!

  • @6641ymca I do believe that that screen should be compatible. Can you get video from an external monitor connected to the laptop through the VGA port on the side?

  • I did this and now just have a white screen all the time? Any suggestions? Please help

  • @6641ymca I would recommend going back to check all connections to make sure that they are secure.

  • i need your help:(..i have this part thats hanging that i have no idea where it goes..ive got these same laptop on this video....& also when i turn it on it turns right back off & its plugged ...please help...thank you...

  • @ChrySTARamaya I would go back and check all connections and screws to be sure everything is securely in place. What part do you mean when you say that it is hanging?

  • @FastVideoTech i have a photo of it on my photobucket but it wont let me putt it on here:( do you have an email i can send it too?

  • @FastVideoTech @ 11:23 of your video you are putting it on..well its the right side of it..not where you connect it!

  • i wasted money on this laptop, dont buy an hp

  • My screen is flickering, some people say it might be the inverter, others say the lcd itself and there are some people who think it might be just a loose cable. Haha

    What's your guess??

Im gonna give a try to open the monster and check it out, thanks for the video.

  • @juozin It is possible that it is all 3 problems lol. I would recommend checking the connections 1st as that would be the 1st thing to try in the process of elimination. Do you hear any high pitched noise? Does the screen flicker only when being moved? When the screen flickers do you see a faint image still on the screen?

  • @FastVideoTech hey mate, thanks for the quick reply.

    1. No sounds

    2. Flickers all the time.. and yeah when flickers I can see a faint image

Now it's way worst that that, I cannot use it, I've to plug into my tv.

It works sometimes like that... the screen freezes for few secons then I can see/use for few secs and then if freezes again,... over and over, sometimes I simply get a mix of black/grey screen and it keeps flickering on the top of scree or below the task bar.

    Any idea? Thanks again!!

  • @juozin It is still "flickering" when it is plugged into your TV or external monitor? Probably the GPU or motherboard (GPU is on the motherboard) issue. I would have it looked at before buying a screen or inverter.

  • My DV4 1435 gets powered on, but only the lights from the keyboard area get on, and then they flash 4 times, stop and again flash 4 times again. I checked on the HP troubleshooting and it says something about the Graphic Controller. But if the screen is not working then probably the screen is the one that is giving that error on the boot. What would you do? Thank you.

  • @Longussss Sounds like a possible bad video chip. If the graphic controller is failing then you would not get any video on the screen even though the screen may be working. You may need to repair or replace the motherboard (which contains the graphic controller) in your laptop. I do a free estimate at my shop if you would like me to check it out.

  • ok im gonna try & do this...now to order the right screen on ebay<<ive got that exact laptop on this video!!!

  • Thanks for the reply back! One of the connectors were loose, everything is working fine! I really appreciate the help!

  • Thanks for the demo. I tried replacing a crack screen following your demo. When I turn on the laptop on I get nothing. Any suggestions?

  • @OwinSparks Do you mean there is no power? I would 1st go back and check your work, to be sure that all connections and screws are securely in place. Good luck!

  • If you want to dismantle the screen, you must first disassemble the universe.

  • Geeeezzz You have to take the whole freakin' thing apart. Well, wish me luck

  • @potatosarecoolly Good luck!

  • @FastVideoTech All fixed. Thanks for the video!!

  • dude...let's say my laptop's screen is loose....I think it might be the hinges....do I still have to disassemble the whole thing like this ?...or is there an easier way ?

  • can you send me the normal speed of the video pls????cuz im still a novice...thanks man!

  • I followed this guide to replace a monitor on dv4 laptop, worked good but when it has a white screen on bootup and the hdd light comes on for a couple seconds but turns off , what does this mean?

  • mine 2 times have black screen ... hp i hate you

  • You should make it a bit more clear where each set of screws go. Good video though. Really helped me save some money.

  • You should make it a bit more clear where each set of screws go.

  • HOW MUCH WOLD U CHARGE TO CHANGE ONE?

  • Depends on the price of the screen.

  • so the foil... the removal is not necessarily important?

  • Hi I have a laptop ACER EXTENSA 5220 IN WHICH THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM FACING. When you turn it shows me a black screen. WHEN I AM IN PATA DESKTOP AND FN F6 AND MY PICTURE SHOWS BUT AFTER 2 SECONDS AN AUDIO SOUND again become black. BUT THE SCREEN CAN DO MINIMUM SHADOWS. Could you HELP ME; THANKS

  • how can I determine before buying the screen if it is CCFL or LED

the dv4-1225dx uses both, but they are not interchangable. (this without having to take the laptop apart

  • @pmde36 I do believe that you must check the part numbers on the back of the Screen before ordering. That's what I do. If you find another way, please let me know!

  • Try a copper shim and lower your gpu temperature greatly. Thermal paste is included. Search for "dv4 copper shim" on ebay.

  • So, what made you change the lcd? How did you determine it was a bad lcd, as opposed to an inverter or backlight (or is that the only way to change the backlight with this lcd?)

  • @gerryf19 I do believe that this LCD was cracked...if I remember correctly. It's not hard to tell when a LCD is cracked / broken. Sometimes if a LCD is not broken and there are video problems, I will use process of elimination.

  • do you still have to remove all of those if you just want to replace the LDC cord? cause my computer is causing incorrect colors for my web browsers

  • @xWinterAries Yes in order to replace the entire video flex cable you would need to remove the display assembly. Incorrect colors may be caused by several things, least of which is the cable but it is possible. Software is also a possible cause and that may be easier to diagnose. I do a free estimate at my shop if you would like me to check it out. Good luck!

  • @FastVideoTech If you can help me then Thank You so much but if you don't have times then that's okay TY anyway :)

  • @xWinterAries Ok! Please check your messages.

  • Thank you soo much just fixed my Dv4 2145 using thing video and ive never done anything with computers besides surf the net! I feel so empowered! lol

  • Hello , I am restoring my old dv4 and was wondering , I have a few questions 1. Can I make the screen led 2. Where can someone do this for me and is there a such thing as i7 duo processor just wondering if you can install it on the dv4

  • @amin4570 You should be able to find an LED screen for the DV4 but you first want to make sure the part numbers are compatible. I do believe that the DV4 uses a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3-350M processor and that socket type is PGA-988. The i7 duo processor uses a LGA1156 socket, so that processor is not compatible. I would be happy to replace your LCD Screen. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

  • Just fixed my friends dv4 following you the whole way through. Worked perfectly. Thanks alot!

  • Dude, do you now if i can replace a LCD screen to a LED screen?

  • @nomenaumdisponivel Generally you would want to find an exact match for your LCD Screen which would require checking the LCD's model number and ordering a LCD to match it.

  • @FastVideoTech Thanks for the fast response :)

  • Thanks so much this video helped out alot!

  • COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ62-209WM COMPATIBLE LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.6"" WXGA HD just ordered a new screen is it around the same way to install?

  • @bryant110 Most laptop LCD screen installations are similar, however I do not know off hand if the Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM is the same as the HP DV4 or not.

  • Shit thx

  • hey where can i get the HP DV4 LCD Screen Replacement to buy nd how much they go for?

  • @jrsowavy4yall I would recommend checking the LCD model number (on the back of the LCD Screen) and using google to find a replacement. The cost of the LCD depends on the model but generally range from $100 to $150. Good luck! Let me know if you would like me to replace your LCD.

  • Hello Fast Video Tech, I just replaced the LCD on a DV4. However, still no image. Although I did notice that the laptop had a broken small ribbon like cable that was broken; it's broken at the tip going towards the LCD. This cable that I'm talking about goes over the speaker plastic piece. At Minute 11:09 with your left hand you grab this cable that I'm talking about, and place it over the speaker plastic. Do you know if this cable could be the cause why I'm still not getting an image?

  • @jorge7977 Please check your messages as my reply is too large for the comments.

  • Great vid! I've been replacing pc parts for years now but this is my first LCD screen. When I powered up the screen worked but was very dim. What is your insight?

  • @sledx85 If it is VERY dim, as in you can barely see what is on the screen it would most likely be the inverter board (small circuit board directly under the LCD) that is either not functioning correctly or has a connection issue. My advice in this case would be to check the 2 connections (unplug and plug in again) on the inverter board and try that. If that does not work replace the inverter board (they are fairly inexpensive $10 - $30). Let me know if this helps. Good luck!

  • fuck that!!!!!

  • WOW ,that the video i was searching ,i have hp pavilion dv7 3057nr ,i need to replace the lcd screen but i need to know if is right conector or left. How can i know to buy the correct screen?? I'm using the laptop with external monitor that conect in the left side.

    Thank you.

  • @TheCariduros I have a HP DV7 screen replacement video also! You may want to check that out, although the DV4 and DV7 are very similar. I would highly recommend removing the LCD screen and checking the part numbers on the back of the screen before ordering so you are sure that you are ordering the correct LCD screen. Or if you want to send me your laptop I will do a free estimate and replace the screen for you if you like.

  • You rocks man! this is very good... Congratulations!

  • thanks man! Awesome video.

  • Would this be the same procedure to repair the hinges? My DV4 screen has quite a bit of slack.,,not sure if the screws just need tightening or if the hinges need replacing.

  • @aDoubleUtube I have seen loose screws cause extra play in the display assembly before. More than likely though it is that the hinges have started to wear out and need to be replaced. Only one way to find out for sure and that is to take the laptop apart and check the screws/hinges. To answer your question, yes you would want to do what is shown in my video to get to the hinges. Good luck! Let me know if I can help!

  • Very helpful! But wow, what a poor design. You have to disassemble the entire bottom portion of the computer just to remove the screen and inverter board!

  • @chloeishere Thanks! You got that right! It is a very non symmetrical design for sure. Having to remove the entire display assembly adds tons of time to replacing the LCD. Looks pretty though, lol.
