@eran5005 Mayan calenders based on Olmec calenders were actually more accurately tuned to the earth and stars with closer to true measurement of time. Our leap year is due to inaccuracy in our calendar. Does this make does it make the prophesy true. Well it is not even a prophecy as generally thought. The calendar ends, that is it. @nitrogen0101 The Mayan calender comes from a much older Olmec, which is theorized to be even older than even the Olmec & is more accurate than our calender. So while they may not have our resources their calender was better representing of actual course of time than ours is now.

The end of each of the Mayan ages (this will be the end of the 5th age) has ended in large disasters. While it might be a great disaster, it will not be the complete end, but the beginning of something new.

@nitrogen0101 I think something will happen, though it might not actually be the Earth Crust Displacement. That is the giant slate cleaner, & hopefully it is not what will happen. If it is then there is nothing really anyone can do. While it could happen we have many other troubles heading our way besides this one. We are currently in a magnetic pole reversal (which is needed for a ECD) with an extremely active solar cycle at the same time. This means more solar radiation hitting us on Earth.

As for this video & the concepts. This video is a simplified version (made for the movie 2012) of Charles Hapgood's Earth Crust Displacement Theory. The theory is that the entire crust moves as one piece sliding on the molten interior. The movie 2012 uses the theory as a possible event for the 2012 Maya calender end.

@FlightSimGuy9782 Actually the layers composition of the interior of the earth are still highly debated and there is no actual definitive answer for the make up and characteristics. One mainstream idea of the mantle is the inner core is solid, the outer core is liquid, and the mantle solid/plastic. This is because of the relative melting points of the different layers (nickel-iron core, silicate crust and mantle) and the increase in temperature and pressure as one moves deeper into the Earth.

@FlightSimGuy9782 I would also point out that I had just pointed out the movie included the incorrect idea of the neutrino effect which was shown not to be valid as you point out. The magnetic field weakening is when the mantle does turn liquid rather than plastic.

@DisturbedShifty actually the movie got a lot of the theory only part right, as usual. What is going on in side the Earth is you have super hot rock that should be liquid, but because of the pressure is more a plastic state (think play doe or silly putty), but when there is a magnetic pole reversal (not solar flares and neutrinos) the magnetic field dissipating before the flip of the magnetic poles, will actually allow the molten rock to go from plastic to liquid.

To watch the destruction. if anything like what these movies happens we wont get to see all the chaos. That is the main thing the movies are good for. Or for a very basic overview of the theories with a lot of inaccuracies.

the thing is, the sun is not capable of emitting enough radiation OR neutrinos to do anything to the very solid and tough, mantle of the earth, therefore, this is wrong.

Correct, the neutrino idea was one found to not actually be a correct, or at least fully correct part of the theory. What was found, though is that durning a magnetic pole reversal (we are in one right now) that when the pole strength reaches aprox 0, meaning there are many conflicting poles, and no central North & South the mantle becomes a true liquid state rather than the normal more plastic state.

The theory of ECD is sound, the one missing piece is trigger. What can move the crust?

Actually it is a very valid theory and has had recent (2006) report in the Geological Society of America Bulletin by Adam Maloof of Princeton University and Galen Halverson of Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France.
