Someone please explain to me how this is a flagrant 1 even. Because I know that no one can in their right mind call this a flagrant two. By definition, a flagrant foul is a foul where there was no play on the ball, or excessive and unnecessary contact. Did either of those two happen in this play? Dude, did you see him actually get the ball? It was obvious his intent was for the ball, he just inadvertantly got his head too. Not saying it wasn't a little overboard on the play but I'm not sure it was as dirty as a lot of people think it is.

You don't try to get the ball if the dude is that far ahead of you. You're obviously not a meathead like the other idiots, so I'll explain this- if you're 3-4 steps behind someone, you don't try to block them. The chances for actually getting a block are under 0.5%, while you could seriously injure someone. That's why this shit is a flagrant foul.

dude he was like half a step behind him... 3 or 4 steps... ha.... as clayj4727 said... went for the ball.... rudy's head happen to get in the way... plus... u could see tht he was still okay when he got knocked and he was still looking if the ball was gonna roll in.... it was the bad landing the got Rudy... it was a flagrant... but i would say a flagrant I... not a flagrant II... and if the ref was not too harsh... maybe just a personal plus technical...

You can't judge intentions...so don't. All you can see from the replay is Ariza being irresponsible. When a player is going up like that, he's vulnerable and easily injured. Swinging at his head doesn't really help.

Someone please explain to me how this is a flagrant 1 even. Because I know that no one can in their right mind call this a flagrant two. By definition, a flagrant foul is a foul where there was no play on the ball, or excessive and unnecessary contact. Did either of those two happen in this play? No. The reason he fell so hard was because he was moving so fast and jumping off one foot. Only foul was Ariza accidently grazed the top of his head. Thats a foul. Not an ejection and suspension.

another thing that suggests exaggeration to me is that completely contrived response Fernandez' body makes once it makes contact with the floor. His hip hits the ground and he pops up for a second. that, to me, seems like a very unnatural response from the body, one that seems designed to sell the flagrant.

What happened is he took a hard fall, but it looks like Ariza did not commit a flagrant as he went after the ball, its the unfortunate consequence that Rudy was on his way to dunk and lots of injuries can come from falling down from that height.
