"this device could really use a refresh" why dont people tell apple that but no they telll webos.... i just dont understand people ..... lame review anyway
If someone could port the android app store to web os (now it is open source) it would be an insanely good phone, I have it now is soooo good only probs are music isn't copying to the player correctly and not enough apps but it is a lovely phone
Got one. Thank you for showing me how to pop the battery cover off, my eyesight's going and I couldn't see the little slit. I'm disappointed that the home button is capacitive, but hopefully I can make that work. It's a lot heavier than I thought, but feels very nice in hand, much smoother than the Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket that I had to return. Also, I love the touchstone.
I have to disagree as well. The phone is such a beautiful piece of work that I keep one on my work desk in its touchstone just as piece of decorative art, even though I don't use this phone anymore. It's simply gorgeous.
Additionally, I think WebOS was light years ahead of its time, so having not evolved, as the reviewer says, makes it merely years ahead of the current competition.
I've gone through the iPhone, and I was majorly disappointed (and I'm a Mac guy), a few others, and now am using the Samsung Galaxy S, which I pretty much love. However, I MISS the true multi-tasking of WebOS. Everyone who thinks their phones multi-task, they don't. There is just no comparison.
And when I see the Pre in movies or on TV, my heart skips a beat and I get that longing to use that phone again. Now that the Pre3 is out, I'm re-thinking my decision to upgrade to the Galaxy S2 (but I really do love the Galaxy S). My only concern (and the one that made me have to find another phone in the first place) is the Apps. They didn't run full function with the way I needed to use it for my office, so I'm still a bit hesitant about that.
I have to totally disagree with you concerning your comment on the look of the phone. The simplistic beauty the Pre series offers is unmatched. No buttons, smooth, the idea of it looking like a stone in a river was brilliant. Classy really.
I felt that was always one of the reasons I got the Pre Plus was because of its design.
@lcromy I totally agree with you, I got one when they first came out and I like everything about this phone. I like the rounded clean design which I think looks and feels better than what seems to be the standard brick style designs that are the fashion of the moment. As for it lacking a virtual keyboard, why would you want one when you have a real one? I honestly can't fault the phone and WEBOS is a joy to use.
spent over half the review with the screen turned OFF? Yea great review..not! I have one of these actually. Got it for free on contract, £10pm. Bargain. Gave it to my dad I have an iphone 4 ;)
I think the problem took root with the original Pre.
When it was first announced the only device standing in its way was the iPhone and that was it, no Android or anything else - that's where it started to go wrong, they simply couldn't bring the product to market fast enough.
I waited 9 months for an official email from Palm saying the Pre was available in the UK, by that time another iPhone had come out, Android was well on it's way with phones like the HTC Hero even Nokia had touchscreens
I bought a TouchPad. It's nice for a $150 32GB tablet, but there's no way I would choose the Pre 3 as my primary mobile device. There are like NO apps! It would end up being a glorified PMP with phone functionality.
@docalex1991 atm i use the galaxy s2 but i had the palm pre 1 and didnt like it at all then i tried the others to see how they changed but they still sucked
@bluefisch200 nope . they're looking for a buyer , haulting webos development and not funding anymore webos project . basically they're selling palm for scraps , a stupid move by an idiot CEO . not only did HP failed to see webos power , failed to do research on the market they're releasing , failed to appeal to the right consumer , they're also ditching the largest footprint of their company : the PC market . exiting the PC market will be a disaster for HP , im sorry for the employees .
@Hikayuhuy No, they are NOT looking for a buyer, they will maybe license it to other hardware companies, but HP will still develop WebOS on its own...
@DonutYankee3000 Guess where ios originated & who the originator was. I'll giv u a hint, in the late 90s the government forced him to quit putting out so many different projects & software so other company could make a profit so he bought a huge share of apple. Thats y apple ios looks exactly like updated treo 650 w/more colors. Webos was made to be different than ios w/unique multitaskin & interface. Bill Gates basically started both thats y I was surprised w/ios's poor multitasking.
What was Hp thinking after they bought webos....the Pre 1, Pre 2 flunk for a reason...and a year later they brought out the same thing slightly specs and expect it to be a hit... Again Web Os on a Samsung or HTC device.. now that i would buy in a heart beat.
I wanna get one for the cool design and the cool WebOS but "cool" doesn't mean i'm paying 400$ so i'm waiting a firesale from Clove to get it ... 100$-120$ should be good
@SouthFacedWindows There was no way that Palm could have known that the board at HP would throw out Mark Hurd and hire a guy who wanted to make HP a software company.
The original idea of a HP WebOS connectivity between every HP device capable of running the OS was quite good and enough of a vision that it made me apply for a job with them. Today I'm happy that newer happened as I would have been even more pissed then.
Hopefully I'm a Pre3 owner by the end of the week :-)

You know it's a "PRE" because it absolutely looks so 'PREHISTORIC"
Fuck this phones! Garbage!
bomotsot 3 months ago
@bomotsot not to be argumental, but how does it look PREHISTORIC compared to others?
Please explain how you came to the conclusion that they are garbage.
I understand webOS has some quirks and Pre phones never had amazing build quality, but what else merits a "garbage" rating?

Much as I dislike Apple being a patent hog, they'd have been the best company to buy Palm. WebOS would've been great if integrated into iOS.
