I built this pump in about ten minutes at a cost of $8.. It works very well. The seal is very good. I followed the directions exactly except I just used a 1/2 inch T at the top for handle... Didn't really need the shoe goo.. the foam has glue on it already that seems to hold.
There is no video for the PSP. The complete PSP hand dredge is available for sale on my website. The valve assemblies for the Plus version are available and for sale by request.
ok the comment by wave6472 regarding pipe sizes was NOT posted by me but rather that of my roommate and i suspect he has no concept of basic pluming disregard any more comments posted by wave6472 on pipe sizes and thank you for your video it was very helpful to me now it is time to teach somebody what a 1/2 inch elbow is lol thanks
I drilled a small hole in the middle of the screw on plug and slid the rope in and made a knot and pulled it back tight and made the rope through the pipe just as long as the pull handle. It does a great job at keeping the handle in too so that you don’t over pull and pull out the handle from the top.
I am glad you like the video and your suggestion is welcome! Your approach for retaining the material within the body is novel and one that I had not imagined. I do provide this particular hand dredge (with internal check valves to retain the material) from my website - FissureMan Online.
Thank You for making this Video for us to make our own.
To Thank you even more I am letting you know how to solve the problem of the material falling out.
By taking a small rope or line and fastening it on the inside of the pump to the end of the pull handle with a ball at the end. So when you Pull the Handle to suck the material up and in, the rope will pull the ball up and plug the end of the pipe and hold the material in,
I have check valve sets available for the hand dredge - just let me know if you wish to purchase a set before you construct the hand dredge. You can also purchase the hand dredge assembled with the valves installed on my website - FissureMan Online.
I have seen them - I also have one very similar that I use to drain my demonstration/test tank. They pump water sort of but the minute you get sand of any quantity in them the plunger jams. They are not meant to pump anything but clean fluid.
I provide equipment to actually pump sand, rock with water. You can see this and the test tank I speak of using "SANDMAN ATTACHMENT DEMONSTRATION " as a search phrase here on YouTube.
The PICKERSTICK PLUS model that I sell is the same as in the video except it uses two check valves to pump water out of the end of the handle. I would be happy to converse with you about your question through messaging as this venue is restrictive as to how much information can be posted efficiently..
@caddisking you would have to find a way to seperate the dirt from the water...... have a pump that snad and grit cna run threw without damming the pump and make the water run over a bed sheet or a filter. like the old days hydrolic mineing!
wal mart sells these things to put in a boat. its a bilge pump. couldnt you use it. it picks up water ( and maybe sand) and squrts it out a hose( into your bucket) 7 bucks
@djc12c I'm a creative fellow myself--but sadly we have no gold down around where I live----if they did, then I'd be panning or sluicing or whatever---I am int the metal detecting though anbd have been for 26 years---and still love the heck out of it--YIPPPEEE! Good luck with your prospecting!
Great video and thanks for sharing your ideas. I get a kick out of all the probing for info on the check valves. People, this guy put the thought and effort to get us started for free. Put yourself in his place and appreciate the capitalism on his part. If you must know, research the physics of a check valve. It's not that big of a mystery.
Great video thanks ... I got a taste for gold after watching this. Where i live we have plenty of black sand and I'm told gold. Might have to go out there and try my luck. Cheers
Basé sur la traduction je peux vous produire suggèrent un clapet de non-retour. Je vends vraiment cet artifice sur mon site Internet avec un construit dans le système de valve de chèque. Merci pour votre suggestion!
Make the end 12 inches let it extend within the inside and walla the gravel goes up and over the inside edge and collects around the edge take the top off and pour into the pan, thus a gravel collector
if you use a dremal or simmilar tool you can ream out the stop lip inside the 1/2x11/4 bushing so you can insert the nozel farther into the body of hte pump so it works more like a snuffer bottle, everything goes up and falls arround it and you will loose almost nothing because it will collect it arround the 1/2" nozel
It is for gold and gemstone prospecting to suction collect gravel/sand from the cracks and holes in the bedrock of streams or other water environments.
it is easier to buy a "yabby pump" used to suck sand and yabbies at a beach .They are stainless steel and available at all tackle shops. I adapted a plastic section of different sizes for different crevices which I attach at the suction end.
The PSP parts rerquirement is identical to the PS except it has internal valving as an additional feature. The remaining items needed for the valves are sheet rubber, fine mesh screen and a rubber adhesive. Plus the knowledge of how to construct and install the valves.
The valves are self produced rubber flap/check valves. One is placed within the fitting at the foward end of the dredge body behind the nozzle. The other is in the piston assembly (the threaded fitting and cap)located within the dredge body.
The video provided is the only schematic available. It is the basic design offered free. The referenced check valves are additions added to the basic model to create the PickerStick Plus model on my web site. I can provide the constructed valves and a placement detail sheet for a nominal cost if you wish to upgrade the basic model in the video.
The PickerStick Plus model uses a check valve to expel the water out through the end of the handle on the down stroke. A flapper valve keeps the captured material in the dredge body during this operation.

some of the sizes of pipe in this vid are wrong for example you cannot fit a 1/2 inch elbow on 1/2 inch pipe [ at least not the right way]
wave6472 6 months ago
@wave6472
Well I guess the manufacturers of the pipe and the fittings better change how they mark their products then! They must have it all wrong....

How do you empty the water out of the end of the handle with your version?
