He landed it on Dan Henderson it just didn't hit like the belfort kick did. That said, Seagal IS practiced in martial arts, specifically Akido. He's been training it since he was 10 years old. Also Anderson and Lyoto both gave him credit for helping them perfect the kick. In sport that is constantly evolving knowledge can/must be taken from multiple resources.
