  • Your entire video series has helped me TREMENDOUSLY! Thank you!

I see on this video you are able to have a WindowsXP box join the samba domain. Do you have any information on what is needed for a Win7 Pro box to join the domain? Thanks.

  • Cool, i was surfing the web for some solutions to manage about 2K Pc in my company :D

  • this is a grate video keep it up it helped me a lot thanks

  • @wri03 Thanks you :-) all comments good and bad are welcome

  • 2 tips for other people that follow this video:

    - I had to enable WINS server support and Use WINS for Hostname resolution in the Identity tab of the Samba Yast dialog.

  • - When you want to add groups that are also available in the Samba domain, use the Yast "User and Group Administration" dialog. In the groups tab select the LDAP groups filter.

  • When you add or edit a group, select the "plugins" tab and double click the "Manage Samba attribute of LDAP groups" to enable the plugin. Then click the launch button to select a Samba group name for that group.

  • or use ldapsmb

  • or use ldapsmb

  • I will havea video for you before the end of next week. The computer accounts can go into LDAP or /etc/passwd. In the last video the machine accounts went straight into the /etc/passwd file

  • DNS stored in LDAP is not my recommendation. I am very much of the opinion that this is an Identity Store, hence I do not put samba machine accounts in Directory. However, I will do this, give me aweek or so as I have some other vidoes I am already working with

  • Well, if a windows machine joins the samba domain, the machine is added to the directory automatically, isn't it?

Anyway, it's a requirement of my company which I'm (trying to) setting up a samba/ldap/dns machine. Looking forward to your future videos.

  • Really useful video, I watched it 3 times to implement on my own computer.

It would be nice if you could add an episode to add a DNS server with LDAP support, so that machines that join the domain can automatically be resolved by the DNS.

    thanks, Winfried
