  • THANK YOU!

always wanted to know how to fix dents properly without bog

  • great video mate. Very clear to understand especially for apprentices or someone wanting to give it a shot at home

I'm a beater myself and i also find that metal finishing is so much easier and quicker than using bog in small to medium sized dents

  • A good body man is a perfectionist clearly he fits the criteria !

  • what can I say this is education ,,, I went all the way with engines and transmissions .... this guy has taught me soooooo much !!!!!

  • Really good video, mate! You have an envious assortment of tools.

    take care,

    Danny.

  • is that a ww2 german helmet?

  • Was looking for someting else and came across this, desided to have a look-in and was impressed!

    Well done. :)

  • top video, gonna bend my bastard file now and get beating. good stuff

  • Damn, you've got your skills straight (pun intended) Excellent video and training! I've added you to my favorites list on YouTube. I'm going to make it through your entire series of videos.

  • the file itself serves for another trick too. it prevents squishing the material too flat and then leaving high spots again in a completely new area. I hope you know what I mean, those cavities in the file allow the material to "relax" a bit when you bang it, otherwise if you have a perfectly flat tool it can cause high spots just where the edge of the tool goes as the material bursts out from too much stress.

  • Awesome video, will come in handy on the next datsun project! Off to buy some tools

  • Dude you should teach, probably wont make the same money though! This is awesome, will be having a go on my Bambina!

  • And this is your ''nickellson brazillian made flat B*st*rd file'' hahaha made me laugh !

  • Cool information. Gonna try and modify an old file asap - hope it doesn't snap.

Got some lil dents on my camper like that one...

  • very glad I just watched this.

Bought my dollys on ebay this week and was just about to do a lot more bad than good by the look of it. Thanks for the video,

  • Mate thats unreal

  • - just doing up an old '67 lambretta li150, - some quite badly dented panels, mudguard etc. Saw your video and thought i'd have a go, - got an old file etc, and set about the mudguard which was pretty bad after someone had jemmied off the old number plates - well, you should see it now in primer, looks bloody fantastic, I am really chuffed to bits, - many thanks for the lesson/kick up the arse to do it myself - legshields next, but not that bad - cheers, keep them Lammys rollin'!

    Dave (UK)

  • im loving the sturdy bench :)

  • You know, iv never done panel beating before, but i am going to be starting soon. This video has actually shown me that it is simple when you know what to do!! Which i believe i do thanks to this short video!!

  • I think i love you for yer vids mate!

  • really good. I only have one criticism, you make this look way too easy! Ive been trying this method ever since i found out about it and i take far longer and i always end up having to use a skim of filler to finish it. keep the videos coming they are the best on youtube for this sort of thing.

  • very nice to see a craftsman at work

  • Mate...you should keep uploading videos about different panel beating stylesand how to do o a car for different parts..This will be great stuff to do as Kiwi Unique styles...Once again THanksAlot

  • This is really useful ! I am away to start an apprenticeship doing panel beating next week. I cant wait !

  • Superb. I have just done my first panel job on a Supra front guard, hardest steel I have ever seen. Got it done but ended up with lots of little marks from the hammer and dolly. I wish I had seen this slap stick before I started. Thanks its an excellent video.

    Well done.

  • Now heres a man who knows what he's doing. Keep up the good work buddy

  • Thanks dude, I really appreciate you posting this. It's taken much of the mystery away.

Good camera work too. The close up of the file marks especially helpful.

    More please.

  • You make that look soooo easy! Thanks!

  • You make it look easy mate... and I learned something. I have a couple dents on one fender on my 57 chevy truck that I'm going to try this on... Thanks for the technique...

  • aw crap i wish i saw this before repairing my own dents. makes me want to go and remove all the bog & do it again lol

  • @CA3B20A3G you da man ! this is the best comment i have had eva

  • brilliant!

  • In 1975 in New Zealand bondo was considered poor workmanship, even by insurance companies. If an insurance rep came by the shop and saw bondo shavings on the floor, there would be trouble. What did they use instead. Body shaping tools and then lead solder. Even during automotive manufacturing they used lead to touch up imperfections.

  • Lol, "deent". Great video man, keep up the good work. I've been wanting to learn to do this kind of work for a while. I just picked up a '92 Subaru SVX and it needs some work. It's previous owner was a high school girl (which speaks for itself), and no car should go through that kind of torture.

  • Excellent explanation and demonstration!

  • Great Video mate, I'm a kiwi as well, it's nice to see someone creating their own tools with the same number 8 wire approach I know so many of us grew up with. Great lesson, keep up the good work.

  • thanks nik - yup some of the best tools i got, are the ones i have made - crazy EH ?

  • Great video, im also a panelbeater. excellent in explaining the method of repairing panels... A+++

  • Well done mate, thanks for posting this. Brilliant. Keep up the good work... Great. It is hard to find a panel beater in Oz as most car body shops have panel fitters. I've got a 1975 XB and collected a 'roo some time back and cant find someone to repair. They said they can repair it if I can locate a new guard, but these are now like not so common... Thanks again, will have a go myself.... Got nothing to lose... Cheers.

  • I am new to panel work and dent repair and after reviewing your videos decided to give your slap stick dent removal techniques on a mini clubbie a go , after paint removal on the roof and excess bog, it was covered in dents large and small, so after approx 15 hrs off slapping, the roof is almost back to original condition, as i have a phobia about to much bog and want to repair with a light cover and your techniques are great and have worked a treat. Keep up the excellent videos

using a half round slap stick (I have one of these) could load video if enough people ask,??

You can also hammer on to the dolly from the inside of the panel. My dad and the older repair men would usually lead over the dent

  • Hi Mate, really appreciate your Vespa and Lambretta panel beating info - would certainly welcome more. You may end up with your own TV show one day! Cheers!

  • Excellent video. Thanks for posting it.

  • Great Video Restolad. Very well organized, Simple and to the point! I really like the Idea of making a File into a Slapper. Here in the States we don't do that, normaly we use an old leaf spring because they have the shape already in them. The File leaves a mark and that's especially Helpful.

Best of Luck with all your metal Shaping Projects! Keep the Videos coming.

  • Hey Bazza, just watched in full, great stuff mate, love those overalls.

I want a signed copy of the book when it comes out. We need to see more from Restolad.

  • Awesome mate - very helpful

  • THANKS! Restolad, that was mighty awesome! Truly an excellent video, complete with background on tools, dent theory, and, of course, getting the dent out. Plus it looks like you had fun while you were at it! I'm gonna make a kiwi slap stick and learn how to use it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge-- please give us some more! Sincerely, Bob.

  • I love this guy . Showed me , that I have been doing dent repairs incorrectly . Would like to see more from him . Maybe a series on public television .

  • Excellent video restolad. You clearly know what you're doing (and enjoy it too). You also presented the information in a well thought out manner, and you explain it well.

That could easily be an item on a TV show. Please make more. I'm subscribing.
