  • now after further training in other martial arts...i think these guys are weak minded. at the distance that they are at they should be going at each other...but i guess since their stance is linear and their fighting style is linear i can't blame them for not stepping off to the side slightly to their blind spot.

  • Can some one explain to me why these kumite look so different from those from the west (like those of Aghayev). One thing i do notice is the scoring system. Here the bout ends as soon as some one scores 3 points unlike the ones i have seen in other videos.. I infact like these kumite much more because they show total control and less fooling around. Thanks for replies in advance.

  • @sheiksadique aghayev fight in WKF . this is JKA . so the scoring system is different .

i'm from goju kai and fight in WKF but i personally like JKA better than WKF

  • @sheiksadique - I believe the JKA rules were derived from Kendo. So it's all about the one finishing blow known as Ippon. In JKA one mistake & you could well be out. In the Sport Karate or WKF system the scoring has a first to 3 points idea, seems to score points easier and I suppose because you get so many chances you are more inclined to try this or that idea. In JKA one mistake and it's over. By comparison JKA looks more intense. I prefer JKA but both systems produce good karateka.

  • nice fight

  • Yeah that is Lyoto's older brother cool.

  • is that a Machida as in Lyoto Machida?

  • actually the score was 1 to 3...kumite point matches are first to 3 points. The person who put the interface over the video was wrong. the part where the brizillian took down the japanese was actually a point.

  • @reese1223 that's what i thought too, but i don't see the judge bringing his hand up to signify the point. Also, the corner judge in the background is rolling his flag, signifying weak strike.

  • @reese1223 - I can't see how the score can be 1 to 3 in a 'shobu ippon' contest. JKA normally contests for an Ippon (one full point) or Waza Ri (1/2 point). One thing I'm confused about is at 1.00 you can hear the Referee (Tanaka) clearly call "yame" (stop). Once Yame is called no point should be awarded, yet despite corner judge Imura waving away the excellent sweep & punch (probably based on 'after yame'), Tanaka still awards the point. IMHO the Referee called yame too quickly. Best guy won.

  • @BelloBudo007 - Oops. Sorry!! I just replayed the video and Tanaka did not award the point at 1.00. I assume it was because yame was called. He did however at 1.40 appear to signal point for red (Japan) but then awarded it to white (Brazil) and probably was out voted by corner judges. Brazil 2 wazari & Japan 1 wazari. Better guy won, so that's all that matters.

  • Pow, é o irmão do Lyoto Machida???? Legal!!!

  • @juhkamizato

    Sim é ele mesmo! =)

  • Heavy, weighted.... nice though.
