  • sounds a bit like bat out of hell

  • Let's not forget that B'rer Darrow was an original member of the Nitty Gritty

    Dirt Band....

  • who is playing mandolin ?

  • To chris, you did it pretty up and walking good bro!

  • ha ha this song is shit ha ha humans cant sing ha ha ha ha ha

  • This reminds me of a precious morning in what seems like a million years ago when I worked at KHJ radio. Robert W. introduced me to John Stewart and we all had breakfast at Nickodell's next-door.

  • The bass player on this tune is Bryan Garafalo. That was the first day I ever played with John Stewart. I am Chris Darrow.

  • I have been a fan of the late John Stewart since I bought the Willard album back in the early 70s . Didn't realize at the time it was he was the late Dave Guard's replacement in the Kingston trio. After the Willard album I picked up every album of John's I saw.

  • I dug out my old Willard LP and noticed that Bill Mumy (Will Robinson) played a cow bell on the album.

  • @chrisdarrow Just heard some great music last night in Claremont. Ellen Chase sat in with the Claremont Voodoo Society.

  • @chrisdarrow Hey Chris! Legendary stuff! Great to hear from you. Hope all is well with you. My favourite album title of all time is still When Scopes Collide by Kaleidoscope!!!

  • Lou Ferrigno on banjo

  • Is this more country than folk?

  • @Dunkleosteus9 You could say that-hard to categorize. He worked with a lot of Nashville musicians and his records were always ( in every record shop I ever saw) filed in the "country" section.

  • What does he mean by saying "If I'm not a better person becuase of knowing Jon Stewart, then I'm in pretty bad shape to start out with?"

  • like if a good spirit can't lift another then the other is in a miserable place

  • @OceanPoet I think it was just a poor attempt at a self-deprecating joke. I don't think he intended offense, but it didn't come out very well, I agree.

  • Just look at Buffy's eyes, she was really in love with John.Have had a couple of girls that felt that way about me,and let them slip through my fingers.Say la vie.

  • Title track to a classic album - search it out . The most played album in my house is a compilation i made of the best of his early 70's albums , it is superb the man was genius . RIP John , you are missed .

  • I remember well John turning this tune into a sing-a-long on thr Phoenix album, I so wish there was more of Johns music available on you tube, Cody and Kansas are classics as well as the last campaign trilogy about RFK and oldest living son was also a favorite of mine, used to play the folk clubs in Portland Or. and did all of these plus chilly winds and of course daydream believer, I will miss that vibrato voice and your easy repore with any audience, hang in there Buffy.

  • @justasinger54 I completely agree, esp. about the Last Campaign Trilogy. The stupid BLM is still pulling that crap, and Shoot All The Brave Horses, and Wild Horse Road could become the theme songs of the campaigns to save them.

If someone has decent copies of both songs, PLEASE post them, as well as any other songs not available here. How about Some Lonesome Picker, as well? Jeez there's so much great stuff not available (and yet 47 versions of Gold????) Phoenix Concerts vid anyone?

  • I heard this video once on the radio when I was a kid in the 90's and haven't heard it in a long long time. Thanks for posting this. great song from '69 and one of my fav songs from the best state state in the union.

  • I know I've seen actual video of this. Can someone post it, please? John Stewart was an important figure in American music.

  • If it needs to be said, country rock in L.A. didn't begin and end with Gram Parsons. Chris Darrow, the fiddle player in this clip, was a member of the Corvettes, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kaleidoscope and Linda Ronstadt's band, among others.

  • don't forget the wolfking of l.a.

  • Thank you for bringing back so many memories with this video. It brought tears of joy to my eyes. Thank you John for your gift of song and music. After I cross over, I hope to hear more.

  • What great stuff, never new his music when I was younger.Just happened on this, sounds so good!

  • This video is delightful! I've admired John as long as I can remember, and learned to play the 5-string banjo listening to him play with the KT. I know how much Buffy and his children must miss him. He will always be a treasure to all of us.

  • Henry "Tad" Diltz on the banjo, former member of the MFQ and photographer to the stars.

  • I never met Buffy, but I met John at numerous musical events. My heart goes out to you, Buffy. Blackfootj

  • This is an uxpected treat. Just flat out fabulous. is the Brother Michael on the banjo?

  • There was a lot of effort and love to make this video, and it is greatly appreciated. This is what is so great about YouTube. We can share the love.

  • Buffy, You are a beautiful & strong woman. I am thinking of you at this time. John will live on through the gift of music he has left here.

    With love. Lisa L.

  • Thanks for the post. Great to have Buffy on this. She & John were a great pair. Blessings to you Buffy in your time of loss (as for all of us). I never knew Russ Kunkel played with him. Cool!

  • Wonderful! Epic! Check the players! Bravo!

  • Good bye, old lonesome picker
