wow she is puraly a magnificent locomotive i'm only realy fermiliure withher from Trainz, one thing i must ask why is she a strainge gauge insted of the 4ft 8 1/2
My Nine year old son Adores this Class of Loco. even has a picture of it next to his bed. We are heading over to Adelaide in August to se the 523 in The Port Doc Station ...that will be a buzz....
I remember going on this from Keswick to Bridgewater in the early 90s with my family. What a fun day. I was 8 or 9 I think. Such a pity you can't do trips from town to the hills anymore.
Nah Not Yet it is being stored at the Steamranger's Mt Barker Depot awaiting Repairs on its Tender, Boiler and smokebox so it will be a while till its back on the rails!
Yes, it was fitted approx 1996 due to strict safety law. Personally I rather it to be removed, but unfortunately after several bad accidents with cars and stooges who dont know how to look both ways, give way etc, all locos and railcars are fitted with one.
"..stooges who dont know how to look both ways, give way etc..."
In the US, we call that type "C.F.R.N.'s": Certifiable F---ing Railroad Nuts. Or "foamers"-- those who literally foam at the mouth at the sight of a particular locomotive. They'll stand in the path of an oncoming train travelling 80 MPH just to get "the perfect picture". They've crossed that fine line between " enthusiast" and "batty".
Still, if I saw a Pennsylvania T1 roaring by, I might succumb to the illness as well..
Ha ha ha I know wot you mean. I would be the same if, lets say C&O 614 or Nickel Plate 765, is thundering towards me at full steam ahead....*sigh*...if only....
I heard somewhere that 520 is definitely fixable... but requires something like $250,000 to get her back to working condition. Whatever the problem is its nothing that throwing money at them wont be able to fix! A quarter of a million dollars is a lot.

Engineer5344 3 years ago
520 is currently in storage at Mt Barker locomotive depot. Got a few issues with the tender frame as well as a couple of other bits and pieces.
