Things like stakes through the heart, sunlight and holy symbols were mentioned before Buffy ever came along. But the show did come up with quite a lot of it's own stuff. Considering how popular it still is, it's reasonable to say that authors and movie writers were influenced.

There are more than just vampires in Buffy. Twilight is the only vampires and it gets a little too much for me, but the first book is good. No, for me it is Buffy who applies and who I think is best.

I think this song tipped the scales to team Spike for me. I love the way he seems to know there's a song coming on and he tries to get Buffy to leave. I cracked up when he started singing when I watched the episode the first time. Yay Spike.

They're both loveable, I don't like Spike with a soul though. And I wouldn't compare the two. They are very different, and they react very differently. Spike wanted a soul, Angelus didn't. That says more about the monster than the man. And Angelus is the most evil of them all, and that's why I like Angel. He can be so evil and so good.

Not really. Soullessness isn't a requirement for evil, it just helps. Wolfram and Heart from Angel had pleanty of nasty humans, and between the two shows, there were several major human villains (and only a couple of them ended up going for redemption). Souls don't force people to be good; they just provide the option.
That's completely true, but it doesn't cancel out the fact that Angel was evil until he got his soul from the curse. Spike willingly chose to have a soul, and even fought to have it. Angel spent years trying to rid himself of his.
So yes, people with souls can be evil. But that doesn't change the point that Angel was evil until he got his soul, and he didn't even want it. He just learned to live with it, and became a good person over time.

Is it Alana or the demon inside her who think like that? Plus, she'd kill Gunn anyway if he refused to let her turn him, which kind kills the whole "power of love" argument. I still think Spike's very existence past the first few episodes is fanservice, I don't try to justify it and as a fan I enjoy it :P

They didn't plan on keeping Anya either, but they really liked the actress :P Doyle was supposed to be a Whedon joke and die from the get go, even though he was part of the main cast, but Whedon found it hard to kill him etc. I guess it's the nature of any story that's been told sequentially -- and I have no problem whatsoever with that! In fact, I think Spike's a very cool character and the show was better for him! =)

What's the point of liking Angel if there wasn't that fear of him becoming Angelus?
They're both loveable, I don't like Spike with a soul though. And I wouldn't compare the two. They are very different, and they react very differently. Spike wanted a soul, Angelus didn't. That says more about the monster than the man. And Angelus is the most evil of them all, and that's why I like Angel. He can be so evil and so good.

But when he saw her crying and defensless, he could've shot her right then and there, but he didn't. His chip didn't force him to not shoot her, that was his own free will. And with him not having a soul back then, I think that was the scene that really got me.

The only reason Spike wanted his soul back was to get Buffy. Personally, I think that Angel will always be better for Buffy. I love Spike too of course, but think, Spike tried to rape Buffy. Angel never did that. He was a lot gentler. Yeah, he was forced into his soul, but at least he actually takes that, and uses it to help people in need. He even admits he can never redeem his soul after what he's done. Spike didn't to this for redemption, just to get the girl.

Yes, Spike was weird and sometimes wrong. He loved Buffy, sometimes didn't know how so he hurt her. But even though he was a vampire without a soul he fricking Loved her and wanted to change so he can be with her. I say Spike is great. Does anyone here REMEMBER how Angel was without a soul. Not to denigrate Spike's redemption, which was a wonderful part of the show, but it at least began when he was forced to not be bad. Not really. Soullessness isn't a requirement for evil, it just helps. Wolfram and Heart from Angel had pleanty of nasty humans, and between the two shows, there were several major human villains (and only a couple of them ended up going for redemption). Souls don't force people to be good; they just provide the option.

That's completely true, but it doesn't cancel out the fact that Angel was evil until he got his soul from the curse. Spike willingly chose to have a soul, and even fought to have it. Angel spent years trying to rid himself of his.
So yes, people with souls can be evil. But that doesn't change the point that Angel was evil until he got his soul, and he didn't even want it. He just learned to live with it, and became a good person over time.
I'm a fan of both Angel and Spike. :)

...but did the 67 thumbs up realize Angel wasn't forced to do anything? He just got his soul back and felt sorry about all the things he did. Angel made some hard choices only fictional characters can.
Spike's case is a mystery if not a straight up plot hole. First he didn't have a conscience (comes with a soul) then... He Got Better! I'm on episode 607 now and waiting for an explanation other than, "fanservice" :p

Is it Alana or the demon inside her who think like that? Plus, she'd kill Gunn anyway if he refused to let her turn him, which kind kills the whole "power of love" argument. I still think Spike's very existence past the first few episodes is fanservice, I don't try to justify it and as a fan I enjoy it :P

They didn't plan on keeping Anya either, but they really liked the actress :P Doyle was supposed to be a Whedon joke and die from the get go, even though he was part of the main cast, but Whedon found it hard to kill him etc. I guess it's the nature of any story that's been told sequentially -- and I have no problem whatsoever with that! In fact, I think Spike's a very cool character and the show was better for him! =)
