What REALLY rubbed me up the wrong way is when "Strawman" (a character moviebob clearly stated was not meant to be taken seriously and was meant to speak the "wrong" things) spoke the thoughts of the critics who didn't like the plots. So basically he said that the critics were wrong, which doesn't seem very professional.
Video games are art? I disagree. If they're art then so are board games, card games and sports(none of which I think are art either). They're GAMES. Games are a completely different field than art, just as science & math are a completely different field. Games may have some art that is drawn for them(cover box, etc.) or written for them(basic outline) but they are games first and foremost. Storytelling, acting, painting, sculpting, etc...these are art. I think they're fundamentally different.

He'll probably jump back to the old format in one or two episodes, but he probably WILL try to test with new ideas (EX: a game overthinker cooking special :P ) considering how it must be REALLY boring for him, sticking to the same format all the time. And we must remind ourselves that he's not being PAID to do this, so whatever he thinks is fun, he'll at least TRY.

@Rankerquat True, and I suppose as long as he keeps to the org. format but has a little fun, that can't be harmed. However I would hope he keeps his creative fancies to himself, I don't know about you but my love of cross-dressing is no ones business but my own. You feel me?
@VatZeEll Totally! I myself was REALLY surprised to see he started another sub-plot. Of corse, there might be something behind this... *pauses to think* you know what! Maybe the BEST IDEA FOR THIS is that if he really feels strong about these story lines, maybe he can start another sub-series on his channel devoted ENTIRELY to plot! That way, us fans won't have to sit through awkward stories (unless we feel so inclined) and good 'ol bob gets to take a break from the regular series!
C'mon the side stories are not that bad. They are entertaining, not overly but still. It doesn't really affect the main part of the show (unless you count the 50th episode).
Come on, guys. A youtube user starts making content that isn't done entirely with a cheap microphone, budget recording/editing equipment (windows movie maker, audacity, etc.), and all of a sudden he's a sellout? You know, in most forms of media, creating the same thing over and over in slightly different context is frowned upon.
I prefer the original format of the show, but this new show isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah the acting and effects are bad and the story distracts of the commentary, but he's still doing commentary just fine too.
I don't understand why people bash the sidestories. Everyone I have watched were fun to watch.
I really like your intelligence part of your videos, but I don't mind those "wacky" sidestories. I understand that sometimes you want to do some fun stuff.
Because we have better things to do than watch a wannabe fat balding man who can act bounce around in a wood with shitty special effects fighting a green-screened in "twin" of himself. It's pathetic, boring and detracts from what we're here to see. Bob is an insightful interesting intelligent man who has some profound and important things to say about our hobby, he is however a painfully piss-poor actor and writer. If I wanted to watch shite, I'd own a TV.

Despite it being Bob's show, it's a pretty inane thing to be complaining about. He still shows his intelligent and insightful views of the video game industry and escapism in general, just an extra 3 minutes on an episode. A pretty arbitrary thing when you actually think about it.

The cutscenes are more than 5 minutes themselves. They are poorly made and I only want to see what originally brought me to the show. How about I stop watching the show instead? I want to watch the Game Overthinker. I want Moviebob to get to the point of the episode instead of having to watch over these badly made side story episodes.

I used to enjoy your GOT videos. But the change in format from straight up intellectual analysis of games and game culture to one laced with (what I consider to be poorly made/written/acted) amateur story telling was jarring and unwelcome. Considering your response (straw man) it's obvious that you don't much care for the opinions of the people who actually watch your videos. With that in mind I haven't watched a GOT episode in a long time now and have no plans of returning to the show.
Whomever thumbs downed this video because of a story line that takes up less than a third of an episode and only appear at the beginning and end of an episode are people I pity. If you don't like the story segments then fine; just skip 'em, but we watch TGO for the topics and insightful positions and those HAVEN'T GONE ANYWHERE. His older episodes would have lasted the same amount of time if you take out the story elements so it's not like anything's being "cut".

@TheSamuraiGoomba I'll give you that he's a little biased towards nintendo at times and he's even admitted it himself. The thing is that he said me made TGO to get gamers thinking about topics while giving his opinion on the matter. If you don't agree fine. I don't agree with EVERYTHING Bob says, but that shouldn't matter. In fact it is better in a way because it forces YOU to come up with better and more valid reasons for why you think the way you do....
@artboy598 I watch GO because I'm *not* a Nintendo fanboy, but am curious about its continued appeal (my fond memories of the NES had more to with Capcom and Konami than Nintendo 1st-party titles). And Bob is the most articulate and consistent Nintendo pundit I've found. So unlike The Big Picture, where I agree with him 90%+ of the time, GO's more like 60-70%. But it's always enlightening.

I loved your videos, I totally agree with what you say about creativity being stifled in modern games. I was hoping you would go into the insane mechanical depth of Bayonetta. But instead I assume you're going to complain about the character design instead. This is a wasted opportunity. If anyone out there can properly champion the incredible mechanics achieved in Bayonetta, it's you!

Look, I understand the critisism with the Over Thinker's new direction, at first, it really came across as not all that well thought our and rushed. Folks, you gotta understand something, if Bob doesn't enjoy what he's doing, he won't do it anymore. That's how shows online work. If you don't like the corny storylines but you love the information, guess what, if he doesn't enjoy doing the show he won't give you the information.
I personally don't mind the story-lines. The recent episodes have had a great balance between overthinking and story, it's been like 3 minutes of story and 7-8 minutes of overthinking. If you guys can't handle those three minutes, then skip them and only listen to the commentary. How hard is that?

Not gonna watch it. Separate the amateur film stuff from your game analysis pls. You dont have this stuff in your "escape to the movies" or "big picture" videos...so why here? TGO was what got you your fans in the first place, so please at least think about returning to the old format.
While I don't hate the storyline stuff, I think it could be better. Everytime I see story in a TGO episode, I think of Linkara and Spoony from Thatguywiththeglasses. They both integrate quite a bit of story into their reviews, but in their cases, it never detracts from the main reviews, and I feel the writing and overall stories are better. Maybe Bob could learn a thing or two from them.
@sportsfan282 Same thing with AVGN, all the acting around the review is related to the acctual game he is reviewing. Except for "shit pickle" which was a short-lived one and I think we all know why.
TGO stories on the other hand, has its own Video Game inspired universe that has very little to do with the acctual overthinking except that the main character is the game overthinker (who is busy not using his overthinking skills). It just doesn't blend nice at all.

Bob, I don't know if you still bother reading YouTube comments, but I was one of your earliest watchers and we even stayed in contact for a little while.
You can probably already guess where I'm going with this, but here goes: Please drop the storylines. It's overdone and quite simply gets in the way of the actual "Game OverThinking" segments.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that you should stop your foray into storytelling, but I do think it should be kept separate from your poignant rants.

What used to be the most insightful games webshow, turned into a place for Bob to live his lifelong dream of being a movie director. And while I'm fine with him exploiting the fact that he has an audience watching him, I'd wish he was any good at it..
Bob, please.. either stop the cut-scenes or make them good. Everyone knows you can't do special effects without a budget, and humor doesn't make it alright unless it's the funniest thing since the election of George Bush.

@Hamhark98 Well i for one did not keep watching. He literally lost me the first time one of his episodes swayed into bad amateur movie town. As other people said, with spoony and linkara it kinda works. i can't put my finger on it but his stuff is just bad for whatever reason and really distracts from the whole episode / makes me turn off the video for good, haven't watched his stuff on screwattack ever since.

Can you stop the shitty story? I know that on Screwattack you have repeatadly told your fans who keep begging you to do so that it won't happen and I know you have lost viewers because of it (myself included on most days. Don't even bother to watch anymore). If you stop the shitty story stuff the show would be better.
You can't act, the story isn't good and it interfears with the actual content.
I remember watching that you had plans to destroy the world in earlier episodes, but you were too busy overthinking. Now, it seems as if you're trying to save the world from more villainous thinkers like the AntiThinker while still overthinking. Have you had a change in heart, or are you just trying to save the world so that you could destroy it personally?

I can understand that you have a love for making amateur film, but the old format was what lured most of us subs in. I subbed post amateur film era, but it was because I found old episodes. Of course you are free to do what ever videos you like. But if it was me, I would cater to the subs at this point and make a second channel for amateur film while this channel returns to the old format.
Or at least, just avoid blending amateur film with game analysis, make separate vids for each.
@FatLingon Personally I don't think it has to go quite so far. Doing something similar to Linkara and just keeping the story segments at the end of the video in one unbroken stretch would probably be enough to alleviate most of the complaints.
I don't know, guys. While I'm not a huge fan of all the extra stuff what's important is Moviebob seems like he's having a ton of fun. Maybe this is all the stuff he wanted to do, but couldn't. It rarely seems like he doesn't enjoy what he's doing.

In addition, the people who dislike his episodes is very prevalent. Ever since he started the new plot structure, his ratings went down from 11-10 to 7-8. I don't think a minority has that big of a say.
The problem is that these silly stories don't compliment his deep discussions at all. It's distracting, people don't like it

The original guy I responded to is a very light example (there is WAY worse), but generally people act like total cunts to moviebob and frankly, if I were him, I would ignore those sorts of people entirely out of principle. @z0diak1990 Where are you not seeing legitimate analysis? His last video was about the subject of fading arcade machines and I don't see why that was any less legitimate than the other issues he tackled.
The subject matter isn't flawed, it's his overall poor execution.
His criticism is incredibly cherry-picked and biased (although the latter can hardly be avoided, the least he can do is reiterate that this is his opinion and not the overall god-given truth).
I still do agree with him on most subjects, but the parts I don't agree with and even some of the ones I do are comepletely executed in a flawed manner, logical fallacies such as the straw man and slippery slope. pure editorials.

@VatZeEll Yeah, I guess it started out as an experiment to see if the public liked it, but we both know how that worked out. He'll probably jump back to the old format in one or two episodes, but he probably WILL try to test with new ideas (EX: a game overthinker cooking special :P ) considering how it must be REALLY boring for him, sticking to the same format all the time. And we must remind ourselves that he's not being PAID to do this, so whatever he thinks is fun, he'll at least TRY.

Maybe the BEST IDEA FOR THIS is that if he really feels strong about these story lines, maybe he can start another sub-series on his channel devoted ENTIRELY to plot! That way, us fans won't have to sit through awkward stories (unless we feel so inclined) and good 'ol bob gets to take a break from the regular series!

I used to enjoy your GOT videos. But the change in format from straight up intellectual analysis of games and game culture to one laced with (what I consider to be poorly made/written/acted) amateur story telling was jarring and unwelcome. Considering your response (straw man) it's obvious that you don't much care for the opinions of the people who actually watch your videos. With that in mind I haven't watched a GOT episode in a long time now and have no plans of returning to the show.

Whomever thumbs downed this video because of a story line that takes up less than a third of an episode and only appear at the beginning and end of an episode are people I pity. If you don't like the story segments then fine; just skip 'em, but we watch TGO for the topics and insightful positions and those HAVEN'T GONE ANYWHERE. His older episodes would have lasted the same amount of time if you take out the story elements so it's not like anything's being "cut".

@artboy598 I watch GO because I'm *not* a Nintendo fanboy, but am curious about its continued appeal (my fond memories of the NES had more to with Capcom and Konami than Nintendo 1st-party titles). And Bob is the most articulate and consistent Nintendo pundit I've found. So unlike The Big Picture, where I agree with him 90%+ of the time, GO's more like 60-70%. But it's always enlightening.

I loved your videos, I totally agree with what you say about creativity being stifled in modern games. I was hoping you would go into the insane mechanical depth of Bayonetta. But instead I assume you're going to complain about the character design instead. This is a wasted opportunity. I personally don't mind the story-lines. The recent episodes have had a great balance between overthinking and story, it's been like 3 minutes of story and 7-8 minutes of overthinking. If you guys can't handle those three minutes, then skip them and only listen to the commentary. How hard is that?

While I don't hate the storyline stuff, I think it could be better. Everytime I see story in a TGO episode, I think of Linkara and Spoony from Thatguywiththeglasses. They both integrate quite a bit of story into their reviews, but in their cases, it never detracts from the main reviews, and I feel the writing and overall stories are better. Maybe Bob could learn a thing or two from them.

TGO stories on the other hand, has its own Video Game inspired universe that has very little to do with the acctual overthinking except that the main character is the game overthinker (who is busy not using his overthinking skills). It just doesn't blend nice at all.

Bob, I don't know if you still bother reading YouTube comments, but I was one of your earliest watchers and we even stayed in contact for a little while.
You can probably already guess where I'm going with this, but here goes: Please drop the storylines. It's overdone and quite simply gets in the way of the actual "Game OverThinking" segments.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that you should stop your foray into storytelling, but I do think it should be kept separate from your poignant rants.

As other people said, with spoony and linkara it kinda works. i can't put my finger on it but his stuff is just bad for whatever reason and really distracts from the whole episode / makes me turn off the video for good, haven't watched his stuff on screwattack ever since.

I know that on Screwattack you have repeatadly told your fans who keep begging you to do so that it won't happen and I know you have lost viewers because of it (myself included on most days. I can understand that you have a love for making amateur film, but the old format was what lured most of us subs in. I subbed post amateur film era, but it was because I found old episodes. Of course you are free to do what ever videos you like. But if it was me, I would cater to the subs at this point and make a second channel for amateur film while this channel returns to the old format.
Or at least, just avoid blending amateur film with game analysis, make separate vids for each.

@chocochicken23 Speak for yourself. He's still talking just as much about videogame issues, he's just using a framing device. And since his new episodes are generally longer than his older stuff, it's not like we are somehow losing content.

You don't like it, fine, but it's FREE ENTERTAINMENT, so it's not like you're paying him and then being given garbage. I think people are just really, really, over exaggerating.

@YamiAura You do have a point that he doesn't have an obligation since this is FREE ENTERTAINMENT, but that doesn't mean the newer episode structure is any more justified.
In addition, the people who dislike his episodes is very prevalent. Ever since he started the new plot structure, his ratings went down from 11-10 to 7-8. I don't think a minority has that big of a say.
The problem is that these silly stories don't compliment his deep discussions at all. It's distracting, people don't like it

@Bradax24 Look, I'm not saying people can't criticize him. The original guy I responded to is a very light example (there is WAY worse), but generally people act like total cunts to moviebob and frankly, if I were him, I would ignore those sorts of people entirely out of principle. Ultimately he should have the right to do what he thinks is fun with his videos, for better or worse, imo. I mean, he's still nowhere near Nostalgia Critic bad.

@YamiAura Still, he should take in constructive criticism to improve on his episodes. I'm not acting like a cunt went I say that the older episode structure was better, as established in my previous comment. He has the right, but the people who ultimately decide his fate are the viewers (especially the ones dragged in by his early episodes).
And "Nostalgia Critic bad?"..........I'll just agree to disagree.

Buddy moviebob ran out of legitimate analysis a while ago, he is now pretty much changed his structure entirely.

The subject matter isn't flawed, it's his overall poor execution.
His criticism is incredibly cherry-picked and biased (although the latter can hardly be avoided, the least he can do is reiterate that this is his opinion and not the overall god-given truth).
I still do agree with him on most subjects, but the parts I don't agree with and even some of the ones I do are comepletely executed in a flawed manner, logical fallacies such as the straw man and slippery slope. pure editorials.

As long as I'm entertained, who cares?
