Man!!! You have some video editing skill. With which video editor did you make this very video? Was that in Cinelerra? I've been learning Cinellera for the last couple weeks or so, and I am interested in capturing in HDV as well as rendering in HDV. dvgrab works beautifully, and it captures HDV, albeit 1GB is a max length of capture per file. I understand it's going to be a huge challenge to render in HDV. I tried to render in DV as well, but I get the entire image zoomed. Oh well...
Just wanted to say that your video was at times a little hard to follow with all the background music and echo. I like your points and have to put 2 thumbs up.. :))
YOu seem to be a cool honest guy.....I like the way you think....and respond. I just got my Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm excited.....! So I'm subscribed....keep up the good work V-Man!
Thank you for th GOOD tutorial video. It was EXTREMELY helpful. The extra info, which I wasn't looking for is good to know. Also, I liked all the effects you did... this was the coolest, most fun tutorial I have ever watched.

Also, liked the intro music :-) I liked everything about this video.
If you're talking about importing a different format video, it's actually doing a pass like mencoder and converting it to uncompressed DV format, which can take a while depending on the file you start with. If you're talking from a camera, it should be pretty well instantaneous.
@vaasnaad how do you get ride of the block square thats blocking the view? i have debut video capture and i wanted to snapshot something but i cant because of the black square thats in the way
When you capture video with Kino, it will automatically write a file. In your setup options, you can chose AVI and it will automatically make an AVI file. OR once you've captured it, you can click on Export and make a new file there. Default will save it as DV files.
The teleport? Someone was kind enough to send me a clip of a teleport effect. I composited it over myself, used some lighting tweaks and faded myself out as the effect faded. Hmmm... I've tweaked it since, I might have to do a teleport tutorial!
What are you importing it from? And what are your system specs? I say skip Kino and do Kdenlive or Cinelerra. Then you can just tweak audio sync in the unlikely event you HAVE to with drag and drop.
I have a video on compiling and installing Cinelerra. If you're using Ubuntu Intrepid or Jaunty, the guy that runs the akirad repository has done all the work for you. Check out arthursucks video on installing Cinelerra in Ubuntu. I'll send you a link!
I'm using Kubuntu 8.01. Should probably upgrade to 9.04, but everything is working great so I don't wanna mess with it just yet. :-) Thanks very much, glad you liked the video!!
Yeah, basically. I really like KDE for my desktop. For my laptop, I prefer Ubuntu with Gnome, though, because the wireless connection is so easy. I'm running Xubuntu on a low power laptop I recently got - it's so similar to Gnome, especially on connecting to networks.
Blender apparently does all this with streaming video with green screen. Although, I have not seen much info on accomplishing such a feat. But the new release of Blender 2.9 is suppose to have the Video Texture incorporated in source. I'm told the release date is today!
This is all very complicating for me since I've just recently switched to Jaunty. I need all the help I can get. Thanks!
Thanks! I'm dabbling in Blender. It does some amazing things in video, but getting the hang of it is something else. Cinelerra is very intuitive, but I've designed some things and can't wait to use Blender for particle generation and compositing of that kind of stuff since I can't do it in Cinelerra. I've already got a space ship ready to put myself in! I gotta check out the new release.
Cinelerra! My favorite so far 'cause it's so powerful. Someone sent me a transporter particle generation clip and I used Cinelerra to composite it and "beam" myself. You can also create your own in 3d design programs like Blender3d, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
I don't think Kino will import PNG files or any image files for that matter, but I know Cinelerra doesn't have a problem with it. All the mattes I have made are PNG w/alpha. I'll try and get the Cinelerra tutorial through post and uploaded this weekend.
Depends on the stream types the AVI is packaging, but yes. Just open Kino, then go to File - Open and select whatever you have. If Kino can import it, it will ask you if you want it to do so. Give it a few minutes and you're ready to go!
Thanks for your help vaasnaad. I have succesfully uploaded a quick capture since I contacted you, but the only time it is sucsesful is in poorer light conditions which I think uses less frames per minute.
I will try again tommorrow in good light conditions. Thanks again for your help.
Hi, All that stuff is over my head. You seem to know what you are talking about, wonder if you can help me. I'm having problems with quick capture web cam uploading, after uploading 3mins capture, once it's published, it's cut short to say 1min 17 secs or so. Any idea what i'm doing wrong. Your guidence would be appreciated.
Are you using Linux? Sounds like a problem in the encoding, which would be on YouTube's end. Flash is just hitting your capture device at that point - which in this case would be the webcam, so you're talking about a pretty generic application layer there. Have you tried it after the last batch of maintenance they did on the site a few days ago? I'll try one and see what happens to me...
We don't care what you look like. Stop hogging the screen and zoom in so we can at least see what your doing. If you really have to put your face in there then use a small box, but other then that, all the flashy background and you on top of the screen only distracts and takes away from the real deal.
I'm not particularly fond of being in front of the camera either. That's why all my videos of the kids feature bumps rather than me! Most of my upcomings are probably going to be screen capture directly since they are more involved. These earliers are just testing what I'm able to do in Cinelerra... kind of a demo if you will. Glad you see a "real deal" in there though!
No, no not at all! Actually right after my last video, I was thinking, "Man, I still want to showcase Cinelerra's capabilities, but this is going to get too complicated from here on out and I'll HAVE to do full screen desktop..." Glad to know it was the right call! hehe Happy holidays!!!
Sorry... I replied but it didn't take. Check out 4:40 on where I set the number of frames... that might help depending on the problem. 18000 will get you 10 minutes at 29fps. Just set a limit larger than you think you'll have to use.
As to the MP3... I haven't tried in Kino, to tell you the truth. I have another Kino tutorial coming up soon so I'll check into it. The short - I don't think so. But it's easy peasy in Cinelerra. Just add 2 more audio tracks, drag and drop and you're done.
Just add a new video track beneath your main video track and put your background on it. Motion backgrounds - just loop. Stills - just stretch as long as you need them on the timeline. If you're doing a background for titles, you don't even need a separate track. Just make the background track and add the Title effect on it. If you are doing action, you'll need something to key off of with Chromakey.
If you want something specific feel free to break it down here or shoot me a PM. I think Chromakey is going to have to be the first tutorial after basic editing if that's the kind of background you are talking about (like in my tutorials). Just remember, the tracks behave like layers in Photoshop or AfterEffects - whatever is on top, is on top, next down... etc.
First - I must have clicked wrong and deleted your comment - I APOLOGIZE! I didn't mean to!
Second - I must strongly disagree. Cinelerra is as easy or as complicated as you want to make it (except for slow-mo and fast-mo). Now if you do all the insert points and stuff like that, it's tough. But it's as drag and drop friendly as Windows Movie Maker. Stay tuned for my basic editing tutorials, they may change your mind!
Cinelerra works on all X platforms as far as I know. You can compile from source or there are RPM packages available at their website. I HIGHLY recommend Cinelerra. Kino also has source an RPM available for Fedora, but I don't recommend it for editing.
Check out the stuff I linked for "The Source" videos. It'll give you kind of a basics. I've got a tutorial coming on it but things are kind of crazy lately. :) Glad I could help out!
Kino is strictly DV. It will convert to DV from certain formats, but I've found it to be pretty limited. LiVES would probably work great for you if you just need basic editing. I'm pretty certain it's in the apt-get repositories (sudo apt-get install lives) I can't post links in comments so I'll send you some in a PM!
wow you have such a cool video must have taken lots of work to do all those effects.
Well im going to get my Ubuntu laptop soon so yea im going to give kino a look on how good it is i hope is similar too imovie since that works wonders for me.
Didn't take as much as you'd think, once you get your basics setup, you can kind of run from that template. Glad you enjoyed the production, though! I'm constantly inventing.
Kino is great for importing video, but I think Cinelerra might be more what you're looking for to do post stuff on the level of IMovie. Also, there's a suite called Jahshaka - VERY similar to AfterEffects in usage and features, but we gotta wait for the next version to be released.

Seems to be awesome I guess
It also "teleported" you to somewhere, heh.
I think you're using a Green Background or something else, really?
Well, I'll search more info, thanks for the video, it looks awesome.
I'm sure that it is better than OpenShot Video Editor
I wonder if it can paste another clip on the same image and resize it.
Whatever, thanks again, and hope you to have good luck with that program, and anything, bye!
