Steve "killed" Stefano by stabbing him, but it was all a setup to try and capture Andre at the fake funeral. Stefano was drugged to appear dead. Andre was trying to get info from Sami, suspecting there was more than meets the eye.

Andre Dimera is pretty much demented. The blonde is Sami Brady, their families have been feuding for years. Sami's dad faked Stefano Dimera's death (Andre's uncle) and Andre is threatening Sami over it. This wasn't and isn't the first time he's threatened her. Just recently he locked her in a room with his cousin and turned on a gas stove trying to kill them.
