hope you (poster) or someone, especialley someone who is a pilot, or is familiar with the avation branch could answer me a question. In what way are normal curves are flown? Are these 30° ankle oder 45°? And, in a attitude indicator, there are 2 thin marks, and a bigger one. is the bigger one the 45° mark or the 30° mark? Thanks so for, really need to know this..
i have a question. generally how to lose ur altitude gradually when approaching runway? reduce engine power? definitely not pitch down right? cos that will increase speed. pls advise. ty!

wait i dnt get how u can land a huge plane like tht at a short runway small airport like tht wen u cant even do tht in california? they never have huge planes in small airports in cali
@adamgamedude They land 757, 767 and A300 in John Wayne airport KSNA (Orange County) on a 5700 foot (1700m) runway.
Madeira runway is 9110 ft (2781m) long. What's so special about it is the approach path, proximity with high grounds, and the extended section of the runway built on pillars. Not his "short" runway, which is not short whatsoever.
i live there it's fantastic ............. This is one of the most difficult approaches that exists but in yhis case it's not so much because the plane landed in rwy 23.......... When a plane lands in rwy 05 thats the difficult part...
I last went to Madeira in 1997. Lovely place. I saw what looked like work to extend the runway out into the deep sea. In this video i saw what looked like a viaduct with a pile of land at the 'sea end'. can anybody recommend a site where i can read about the airport and its extension. i guess landing and take off there were even more 'dreaded and spectacular' before the extension was built. Anyway, brilliant video posting - thanks.
I flew into Madeira in the mid '70s. I'll never forget it. I thought we would drop off the opposite end for sure... I believe we landed from the opposite direction from what was shown in this video.
The short runway got me ready to brave Portugal's narrow mountain roads being traveled by very wide trucks!
I can help with this My dad went in 1985 before the first airport extension. I went to Madeira in 1988 the airport had been extended. I took a cruise there in 2008 and it is quite a bit longer and much safer then before. I still prefer to go by cruise ship. lol I have family on the island it is a wonderful place.
Great "cockpit view" landing vid...dont see many of these. Also there were no pilots voices? i thought they spoke to each other on landings & T/Offs etc...like airspeed, altitude etc... i guess not
i noticed your rear offside tyre was low on air upon landing, please could you check the pressure and report back otherwise i have no choice but to inform the correct authorities!
it's the signal for the pilot to put the throttle controls back to "idle", so the landing gear touches the ground. "retard" means here "to retard" in sense of "to slow down" the engines
Why is the video changing at 3:05??? There's a cut in between! And by the way: the landing is from the other side of the airport, IMHO they're never landing from the east-side, we were there till yesterday. (BTW: Great island!! :-) )
Ya, and they're probably the same people who think the moon landing was faked, too. Oh, but don't forget, though: crop circles are made by aliens, bigfoot is real, and chupacabras were accidentally left behind by the aliens who made said crop circles.
I say this because at 2:49 the pavement, cement colons and grass looks a bit fake like it was from a computer. The rest looks real. Maybe it's because of the video quality?
i remember when this runway used to be half the size it is now LOL those used to be some scary landing during bad weather, enough to get anyones heart pumping
One of the dangeroustes and difficultest airports in the world! This Approach and Final Approach is not a Missed Approach, it's a very good landing in spite of turbelences there!
Airbus aircraft tell you to "retard" the throttles because they do not have servos such as Boeing aircraft which actually move the throttles as the autothrottle does its magic. You have to retard airbus throttles to "reset" them. (very important to do so which is why you're reminded.) :)
We used to visit Madeira all the time before in the late 80's and early 90's. Flying TAP airlines. I remember always being scared flying and landing there! Every landing was so fast and hard, also take off was nuts! The pilot would go to the very edge of the runway, lock up the brakes and give it full power! After 10 or so seconds the pilot would release the brakes (BANG!) and I was pinned to the seat!! That was way before the extension.
Please turn off all your electronic devices?? BULLSHIT!!

Circling VOR/DME Runway 23?
Circling NDB Y Runway 23?
Circling NDB Z Runway 23?
RNAV Approach from the NIKAV Intersection?

None of the above?
if it is none of the above, can you please describe the entire approach?

Because he thinks the pilot screwed up again:) No, seriously that's the Airbus way of telling you to idle the engine (then to reverse thrust).
