the water from under the rails is most likely due to NYC water lines that run parallel underneath the subway. This is something that happens all over the city.

Above are the grates that lay on the sidewalk, a excessive amount of water is leaking through thus causes a underground/waterfall like affect. This is something that happens all around the city.

If water was unable to filter from the city roads to the subway to the ground, the ceiling would collapse. This is efficient & disgusting
