Calling youth thoughtless are you? I'm 15 and even I know how to use an apostrophe. Hint: not in plurals.

Ignorant woman. How would you like it if your son died?

  • I find this to be exploitative religious rubbish for the fawning tasteless masses. EC quit making good music in 1971. Lets see - that is almost 40 yrs of crap. I await the juvenile thoughtless reply's - I need a good laugh.

  • CLAPTON THE MANS A LEDGEN

  • :'(

  • i dedicate this song to my daughter dana shanelle, she's in heaven now

  • Mr. Clapton. I'm in my 40's with 2 children under 10..... every time I hear this song I always think about how I can be a better dad and how fortunate I am that they are still here. This is gratitude that truly comes from the soul because you turned a loss that I can't comprehend and made a song that hopefully brings some tiny bit of good - out of unbearable tragedy. I am truly sorry for your loss. Sincerely.

  • If not mistaken this song is dedicated to his son died in an accident.

I am very sorry for his son, was a beautiful child.

    R.I.P. Conor

  • A sad song he wrote about the day he spent with his son at the Circus in Long Island, NY - Circus Left Town. I pray for him. i know he must feel guilty about not being around for much of his short life. Praise God he had this special day with his son.

  • Being a father myself, and knowing the story behind this song, let me tell you, I have absolutely NO idea what I would do with myself if something like that happened to one of my babies. To be able to take allof that pain and loss and turn it into something THIS beautiful, with which to honor his son's memory, is nothing short of divine. Should make all of us, set aside our petty concerns for 4 minutes, and take stock of what's important.

  • This is one of maybe 8 songs out of the hundreds and hundreds that I've ever heard that has a real emotional impact on me.

  • @Coaler73 What are other 7?

Are you okay? I don't know you but I'm worried about you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Brap70

I don't know why we have to be on this earth and deal with all this hardship- but I think maybe we have to go through all this so we can learn. It's a learning experience. And hopefully we will learn to love, care, be compassionate, thoughtful, etc. That's my own take on it. Our time on here is a learning experience for us and those we come into contact with. It's necessary, no matter how difficult it seems. There are people you know who need you. So stick around- know that you're loved

  • @ar4216 everything that happens is a way to grow and to make an impact on other human beings, so we are so valuable. It is the love we give that makes us strong and without seeking reward us back in major way. That is the lesson we must learn in our journey through life. only pure love can fill the emptiness of the soul, it's no secret that we do not belong here. But still I have to fill other souls with pure love. I must not forget that the uphill is hard but it pays to be on top. Thanks

  • Wasti, I miss you so!

  • very special to me..... Dad R.I.P

  • I dunno - I appreciate his hurt. The one that does it for me is River of Tears... To me that one is the tear jerker.

  • what kind of guitar is he using a steel string acoustic or a nylon string ?

  • @m081487m Eric is using a steel string, and the guy that played the solo is using a half steel half nylon (nylon strings for the higher pitch strings).

  • What A Great Song To Sooth The Broken Heart.Don't Make Fun Of The Singer This Song Has A Lot Of Meaning And Plus He Lost His Kid Poor Guy This Song Makes Me Think Of My Late Grandpa Who Just Passed Away.See You On The Side Grandpa Tell The Lord To Open The Gates Wide Cause I'm Gonna Come One Day To Visit. If My Grandpa Had A Funeral I Would Of Played This Song. He's In A Much Better Place Now Lord Look After Him For Me.RIP Grandpa

  • Hi I am Luke - aged 13 from UK.

  • Porra o cara canta demais. essa musica é muito linda, pura espiritualidade, paz e harmonia valeu pela postagem um grande abraço a todos e que Deus nos proteja.

  • Not tear-jerking at all, it seemed like they made this song pop music, instead of its melancholic tone.

  • This song brings a tear to my eye. Love it.

  • Tears in my eyes...love this song.>

  • he's not smiling/moving to screams... he doesn't care.

that is the pain and that is the infinite.

  • no, he's bothered by screams and interrupted song that's way he's serious

  • @sloRockskynyrd watch his old videos. he never smiled at this song. It's a pain. It's not about the "screams"

  • Sweet song !!

But wath a morbid way to make money !

  • What r u talkin about?

  • WTF??? U Lost me dude...

  • Understand me if you like...

Mr Clapton ( one off the best )

Made a song about hes lost son !

    ( i cry with him )

But why record the song , if not to make money !?

Understand ore kill me if you like !

Nevertheless a sweet song as i said !

  • the song can help people that has lost somebody they have loved. Songs can help!

  • Please tell me .......... how ??

  • To be able to relate to ohers in a similar situation is on aspect to ease the pain of loss or any feelings. It doesn't make the pain go away but it can ease it IF you are the kind of person who can engage yourselfe enough personally in the piece of music. Also a person can feel the need to tell the world about his or her pain, and thereby relate to others.

Thesearephsycological facts, your argument is based on your own personal perception of man you do not know.

  • have you ever heard a song with meaning?

  • hmmm.... lemme think.

Maybe the reason he wrote a song about his son's death is because THATS WHAT MUSICIANS DO.

to write a good song, you NEED Inspiration.

if my son died, i'd be pretty down. i think i'd write a song about it to.

he didn't make the song for money, he made it for the same reason good, honest musicians make music.

    for the love.

    art is expression of emotion.

eric clapton let people know how he felt through his music, thats the beauty of music.

  • Ah men Acid.

NJS1726 Im with you on that part.

  • @TrannyAcid Very good point.

  • @TrannyAcid

    Yeah,thats right.

I've heard he wrote the song one day, when he was sad,and it just "flow" words out of him, when he sat down and cried out,and later he made the things he'd wrote down into a song.

I Really like this song, but it's a sad story behind it..And thats whats make it so fantastic..

  • @TrannyAcid To true!!

  • @TrannyAcid agreed, what d!ck would think any different.

just so people know, NOT EVERYONE IS OBSESSED WITH MONEY!

    ur comment is touching ;[

  • To loose a child can never ever be explained - but this is a beautiful and special way to try to do it!! Eric Clapton - I love you for this poetry!

    R.I.P connor

  • Each time I hear this sad, lovely tribute of sorrow and love, my heart aches for the loss of every child any parent has ever lost, for the incomprehensible pain and fragmentation to the heart and spirit that must be felt by the parents and loved ones left to find a way of living without a part of themselves. Such a beautiful song, and such a sacrifice to share it with us all.

  • really sad about the son....

  • there is a quote eric clapton made about this song years ago..... " when this record came out it became my greatest selling record of all time. but if you want to know what it really cost me to make this song go to ripley and visit the grave of my son."

  • That quote is sad...=[

never easy losing someone. my heart goes out to u

  • he has, sadly... fact is he stopped performing this song many years ago with a few others.. cause he, especially with this song, wants to not remember the feeling of it.. and thats understandable, this song brings him too many sad memories athat he has buried and doesnt want to re-hash, those bad memories.. it is a great song, but so sad by far one of the saddest in history.. unfortunately.

  • this song amazes me every time i hear it. how out of a terrible tragedy can come something something very beautiful and touching.

  • So beautiful song!

Sad story, but well, take it as you want to ;)

  • what was the story ? ive never heard it can u please mail me or something cuz i really like eric clapton

  • March 20 1991 Eric's son Conor fell 53 stories to his death from a New York Skyscraper. Eric was not in the apartment at the time. Conor was in the company of his mother (not wed to Eric) Lori Del Santo, her Father, and the housekeeper. The housekeeper had just cleaned the window and had left it open. She witnessed Conor run by her and out the 4 by 6 window to his death. Eric wrote the song in memory of his son.

  • 53 stories?!?!? holy shit.
