In Sumerian mythology,Kur was primarily a mountain or mountains,&usually referred to the Zagros mountains to the east of Sumer. It is possible that this name for the area coincides with the still present modern day Kurds who inhabit much of the Zagros mountains. The cuneiform for"kur"was written ideographically with the cuneiform sign 𒆳, a pictograph of a mountain. It can also mean "foreign land".Although the word for earth was Ki, Kur came to also mean land, & Sumer itself, was called "Kur-gal"
first mention of the Kurds in history was about 3,000 BC, under the name Gutium, as they fought the Summerians(Spieser)Later around 800 BC, the IndoEuropean Median tribes settled in the Zagros mountain region and coalesced with the Gutiums & thus the modern Kurds speak from as Aryan language (Morris). The Kurds are mentioned by Xenaphon, a Greek mercenary, as he retreated from Persia with ten thousand men in 401 BChe says of the Kurds, "These people, lived in the mountains and were very war-like
Its hard enough trying to understand this woman talking, but then the metal music in the background just completely drowns her out. Thats kinda frustrating.
The civilization of Mesopotamia was built by the inhabitants of the Zagros Mountains, where the oldest archaeological evidence shows that since the establishment of the first farming village in Garmo in the seventh millennium BC and then went down to the east of theTigris Nuzi and then toTel Hassouna west of the Tigris to Samarra, and then to Akaragov west of Baghdad, which is the first Agricultural villages which was established in Mesopotamia which is the period of( 7000-3000) B.C ZAGROS PEOPLE
