  • Hydlide theme brings a smile to my face because reminds me of avgn

  • Metroid NES - Brinstar= the turtles- so happy together

  • I think Indiana Jones and A Boy And His Blon is on purpose... I mean look how the title of A Boy And His Blob is written... the same as Indiana Jones... look it up on Google Images

  • You know there is a website called "TotallyLooksLike" where a person can upload 2 pictures of things, weather they're celebrities, people they know, inanimate objects or whatever that they think look similar or identical to eachother. Well i think there should be a site called "TotallySoundsLike" where you can upload 2 audio samples of songs or parts of songs that you think sould alike

  • another one

sonic 1 marble zone=los umbrellos -no tengo dinero

  • sonic 1 green hill zone=billy joel's big shot

sonic 3 competition menu=prince's the ballad of dorothy parker

Sonic Heroes - Stage 2: Ocean Palace= prince's i could never take the place of your man

  • The Banjo Kazooie one is obviously intentional. I always thought it was cleaver, since you play as a bear.

  • How about this:

Sonic The Hedgehog: Scrap Brain Zone

    Stevie Wonder: Sir Duke

    Awesome! XD

  • In "Dick Barton Gallop": from 1:52 until 1:56, it remembered me the song of Cariot Carnage (the song used in the kart stage in Donkey Kong Country for SNES). XD

  • gba mario kart shy guy beach-theme to a summer place

  • hahaha.. plagiarism

  • Indiana Jones Theme sounds similar to Oliver's Theme from Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends! :)

  • The Sonic 1/"Girls Go By" scares me O.o

Now whenever I hear that BGM, I start singing to it...

  • @wiigamer024 another one that sound like it is this one entitled los umbrellos -no tengo dinero look it up you can hear the similarities espcially in around the beginning

  • @emptyspotlight

OMG. yet ANOTHER song that'll hear as i play some Marble Zone. (sarcasm) thanks. :P

  • i know another one that you didnt do:banjo kazooie churchyard and dk 64 creepy castle.

  • i know another similaritie you didnt do:banjo kazooie mad monster mansion churchyard and dk 64 creepy castle

  • The robot masters screen from Mega Man 3 sounds like December 4 by Jay Z.

  • @bamapagedesign Well, they sound alike. The Black Album came out way after MM3.

  • OK OK I GOT ONE

that one YMO song and that one Croc song

    goddamn why can't i remember

  • Elec Man = Faithfully by Journey

  • That Gyruss Theme sounds just like Muse - Plug In Baby

  • You forgot Rockin' K.K. to Chuck Berry

  • Might and Magic - Title Song

    With

    Zelda Majora's Mask: Clock Town.

  • There were many song similarities of Crash Twinsanity

  • When I was in the car once, I was listening to the radio.

Up comes a pop song, "Life Could be Good" or something from the 1920's.

It was EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE TOWN HALL THEME FROM ANIMAL CROSSING. The whistling part had the exact same notes.

  • The merry-go-round theme from Super Mario 64 sounds like the demo song in Pikmin.

  • Teddy Bear picnic = Sorcerers Apprentice part with the too many brooms

  • AVGN Hydlyde!

  • toccata and fugue in d minor is also the beggining of phoenix wright 2

  • obviously they did that on burpose cuz bango is a bear "teddy bear picnic"

AND from 3:51 till end of vidthats called "dona nobis pacem" it means "grant us peace" in, latin

  • Dona nobis pacem is different. It sounds a bit similar I guess.

  • u coulda done all of them better

  • OMG! Teddy Bear's Picnic! <3 Love that song.

  • A better comparison for Canon in D would have been the credit theme from Wario Land 3.

  • Personally I find most of the witchy themes of Banjo-Kazooie more similar to the soundtrack to Wizard of Oz.

  • Thy Gyruss-Soundtrack IS J.S. Bach's Toccata. I am sure there were some credits given in the game to Bach.

  • @Rothirsch Actually... it goes a bit deeper than that. There is a rock version called "Toccata" by the group Sky. The original arcade music of Gyruss sounds very similar to that Sky version, and when Parker Brothers made home versions for various systems, including the music, they gave credit to Bach in the instruction manual, but not to Sky. Their version also has changed a bit from the arcade (using fewer voices and sometimes leaving out the drums).

  • The Dick Barton / Monty on the Run comparison is a bit unfair.

That particular section has a similar rhythmical style and pattern - but the music is quite different.

And it is only that section. The Monty tune is a frenzied patchwork quilt of a song and changes all the time.

The others could be accused of being rip-offs - slightly modified tunes - but Hubbard's Monty is an original song where there might have been some "inspiration" to capture the same kind of "feel" as Dick Barton in places.

  • Also Rock'n K.K. from Animal Crossing for your Retro Hippy/Johnny Goodie Comparison.

  • Comment removed

  • The 20th Century Fox part of the orchestrated Actraiser ending is MUCH more similar sounding

  • the music for Oblivion sounds a lot like the music from Pirates of The Caribbean

The music from Morrowind sounds like the music from Lord of the Rings

  • Might and Magic Title Song also has similarity's to graduation by vitamin c

    check it out

  • Damn, I thought I was the first to make a video like this.

  • Final Fantasy Mystic Quest- Fireburg Band

Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Norris- I mean Berry.

  • PLEASE MAKE MORE!!!

  • Of course you know that the similarity from Grunty's Lair is intentional, right (it even stars a bear). Oh yeah, here's another one:

    Underground BGM (Super Mario Bros.)

    The Real Thing, by Friendship

  • indianda jones and the frosty the snowman theme

  • Fresh Prince and Tidle Tempest.

  • You left out one. There's one song on Earthbound (not sure which) that sounds similar to the keyboard intro to Won't Get Fooled Again by the Who.

  • There's also Green Hill Zone vs "Big Shot" by Billy Joel.

  • @DiscoGlacier agreed

  • dr willy, dragonforce...

  • Megaman: The second part of Fireman's stage music and the second part of Ringman's stage music sound almost exactly alike.

Also, the first melody in Chaos Angel Act 1 in Sonic Advance 3 sound very similar to the song "Spinning Wheels" by "Blood, sweat, and tears"

  • ironicly, this video is a response to the dragonforce video, the intro of through the fire and flames and the gyruss theme sound pretty similer

  • I wouldn't be shock seeing a lot of video game music are inspired by classical and movie music.

    Also, here's one:

"Singing Mountain" from Chrono Trigger = "Laputa Castle In The Sky Theme"

Sonic 3 Credits = Micheal Jackson's "Stranger in Moscow" (ALREADY BEEN DONE TO DEATH)

  • I wouldn't be shock seeing a lot of modern music being inspired by old school game music, Micheal Jackson's Beat it has a part in it that soundsl ike dr.wily theme

  • Yeah seeing some artists are composing music. With mainstream music being how it is now, it is only a matter of time.

  • I think I heard the tune playing around 4:00 on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I may be wrong, but it's familiar from somewhere else.

  • Thanks for including the Retro Hppie (EB)!

  • Did you know that there shoul be a third song that should be added towards the very end of the comparisons list? The Might and Magic Title Song and Canon in D Major also have a similar song in common. If anyone has ever heard of the group called Blues Traveler, then the beginning of the song called "The Hook (Will Bring you Back)" should also be on this list as well.

  • or canon in d and 90% of all songs

  • got one new age retro hippie and squeeze box by the who listen to it all and you'll hear it.

  • Not much, but I can see how you got that.

  • Oh I have one!

Mother 3 Mr. Batty twist- Batman 60 theme

  • JUST about to say that.

  • hahaha hydlide was awesome

  • usa la puta musica original nada cuesta

  • You could do this same exercise all day with many kinds of music from many time periods. Tonal music is based on the diatonic scale, which is capable of forming only a limited number of chord groups. These chord groups are used to construct pretty much all of music as we know it, so it is easy to find similar patterns everywhere.

Some of the examples above may have been deliberate parody, but most of them are certain to have been coincidence.

Cannon in D was obviously borrowed.

  • I was under the impression Neon Tiger/My Michelle was completely on purpose

  • It is. Who said these had to be coincidental?

  • K.K. Western from Animal Crossing sounds like the house of the rising sun.

  • I never thought Dave's music sounded like The Boys Are Back In Town

  • lol, Hydlide

  • Retro Hippie song WAS Johnny B. Goode's song.

  • The Might and Magic theme is Canon. That's not only similair... that's the same freakin' song.

  • Found another one:

    Super Mario 64: Koopa's Theme /

Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water ;)

  • Dr. Mario - Chill

    Sonny Rollins - St. Thomas

Dr. Mario - VS Game Over

    Beach Boys - Surfin' Safari

  • Whoa, that's a lot. Thanks.

  • @Hokkaido666

Also for Dr. Mario's "Chill" -- the synthesized steel drum track from Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 1973 "Karn Evil 9 - 2nd Impression."

  • Super Mario Bros. - Underwater

    Blue Danube Waltz

Super Mario Land - Starman Theme

    Offenbach Can Can

Super Mario World - Level Clear

    Stars & Stripes Forever

    Super Mario World - Castle

Beethoven Symphony No. 5 1st Movement

  • Donkey Kong Country 2 - Haunted Chase

    Night on Bald Mountain

Donkey Kong Country 2 - K. Rool Returns

Hook Main Theme - Flight to Neverland (John Williams)

    Donkey Kong Country 2 - Kannon's Klaim

Queen - We Will Rock You

    Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Ice

    Vangelis - Antarctica

  • Snake Rattle 'n' Roll - Level 1

Bill Haley - Rock Around The Clock

Snake Rattle 'n' Roll Title Theme

Bill Haley - Shake, Rattle 'n' Roll

(Level 3 and Level 4 are also "stolen")

Sonic The Hegdgehog - Green Hill Zone

    Adventures of Chatran (Ending Theme)

Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs's Big Break

Grieg - In The Hall Of The Mountain King

  • I'm pretty sure the title theme is quite deliberately a parody of shake, rattle n roll, given the game's title and all.

  • You should have added the final fight music to Maximum Carnage and compared it to Mob Rules by Black Sabbath.

  • Haha, does NOT!

  • Compare part of the Kid Icarus 2nd Overworld theme with the Ride of Paul Revere.

  • You should also add the double dragons second level theme and the Phil collins song. h|t|t|p|:|/|/|e|a|s|y|l|o|v|i|n|.|y|t|m|n|d|.|c|o|m|/

  • game music is the one of the best things to sample. nice vid.

    Peace.

  • In Fact Gyruss music is Toccata and Fugue from Bach, just a remixed version n_n

  • I'm prettu Sure that Might and magic just WAS Canon In D. But they just used it is all

  • Yeah, it was intentional. A few songs were (Boy and His Blob, Maniac Mansion, Gyruss, etc.).

  • Oh right, ok ^^

  • I have another suggestion, although it's unfortunately somewhat obscure. I was watching some of the first episodes of Petticoat Junction when I heard a song that sounded a LOT like the main Banjo Kazooie theme. I'm not sure what the song is called and I have no idea how you can get a hold of it. :/

On another note, the ending of Hydlide also sounds like the second motion of the Indiana Jones theme. Might wanna look into that one.

  • My favorite was the Teddy Bear's Picnic and Banjo-Kazooie similarity (and Banjo is a bear, so it makes sense).

What game is Teddy Bear's Picnic from?

Also, Porky's Theme from Mother 3 (the version from Super Smash Bros. Brawl would be better to use for a comparison) seems a bit similar to Habanera from the opera Carmen.

  • Teddy bear's picnic isn't from a game. It's a pretty well known song.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm using all of them in part two.

  • Okay. ^_^ Also, the Donkey Kong Jr. intro music (which is also in the Famicom Medley in Brawl) is similar to Lonely by Akon.

  • Town Theme from Willow for NES.

    Theme From A Summer Place.

  • Oye Como Va and Costa del Sol from FFVII.

The Rickroll song (not actual title) and Robo's theme from Chrono Trigger.

  • Nice Video

  • Tetris theme is from a clasical song? Cool stuff.
