My iggy,(Gumby) only has back claws; as the young wild ones in the cage had bitten his front ones off. This leaves me half the trimming! Remarkably though, he really doesn't mind me doing his hind ones. I use q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean first & then trim. I'm not sure if it maybe calms them with the cool sensation of the alcohol but I read it somewhere & it's a good idea to keep down infection. Hope that helps someone. Gumby actually sits & raises his foot for me! Thanks on the ANGLE!
dude. u are like awesome... see the thing is.. i live in the caribbean.. i been trying to get my hands on a iguana. but stupid people here likes to hunt n eat them. also.. how ca i get a iguana they are so fast the babes.. please dude.. i really need your help.. remember i live way over in the caribbean.. Trinidad n Tobago.. where i am.. but please give me sum help .. i luv lizards.. wanna have 1 as a pet
@Poanp they are all green iguanas, just who knows where some come from who have the bright green they keep as adults sometimes their adult colors are different then when they are young
@WeKilledEMO they just have the color they have and each ig is different depending on where they came from or where their parents came from, but excellent food, megaray combo lighting, exercise and temps all play a part in keeping them very healthy :)
I'm planning getting a baby green iguana this tuesday,But I want a female Iguana.I have looked to alot of pages ,but i look and you can see your Iguana's Sex when its about a year and ahalf .Can you help me know when its a female but its a baby? Please?
@wittyworldlee it shouldn't but big adults trying to hold on may still leave a mark but i've never seen stitches from scratches only from bites if u pull away an adult will shred your skin thats why u must train and handle them everyday to keep them socialized and happy
@daitheflubg i was saying if you cut it too far back the nail will bleed but you can dip it in corn starch or some stuff called quick stop both will stop the bleeding
it sucks when u trim the nails and u miss a nail or two and they decide to climb all over you and that 1 nail goes right through all your clothes haha. It helps only if they are nice and calm like her
yea huh, well sometimes she likes me to cut them for her but others like woody i would just throw a towel over and its easy to cut the claws then, Binty is the hardest cause he acts like a baby and pulls his feet away and trys to get away, or he smacks my hands away with his he is such a brat when its claw cutting time! u can also use one of those nail grinders they work good too when mine wont let me use the clippers
i have a question is there any way that u can prevent them from being fighter lizards or is it just how some are??? send me a msg and let me know please
all igs have their own personalities some will be nice always & only get touchy during mating season & some are just dominant animals, afew just don't want to be a pet so you'll never know all you can do it train them well showing them how to be nice by treating them good & socializing them good, also you can get them "fixed" between 2yo & 5yo for best results that will help stop mating season aggression but it wont change their personality, the better care they get the better they turn out
I speak spanish and a few english ( Do you remember me and my iguanas?)
when iguanas are more big, with this "cuter" (sorry, I don´t know write it in english) is dificult (the nail more big), I buy a other tool, it is like a scissors
hi, yes you can use a few different nail cutting tools, i'm just used to using this one the scissor one i usually cut too much with and i have also used the one that grinds down the nails and i have used the nail melter too :)
i think henry lizardlover sold them? if they are even still being made they worked pretty good but it smelled like burning hair when used it stinks bad so i stuck with nail clippers :)
you have to learn everything you can about thier care they are complicated animals to keep they are exotic animals so expect to spend $1500 or more a year, they need specal feeding, lighting, heat, humidity alot of things and space to exercise. watch my feeding, lighting and habiat videos & read everything at anapsid, org greenigsociety, org & for lighting dont use pet store lights goto reptileuv, com they are the best & read more at uvguide,co,uk and join babyiguana, advancediguanacare @ yahoo
I just bought recently an iguana .... dear lord i wish you could see my arms it looks like i got into an fight with an rabid cat .... hopefully after this it wont hurt me so much ~~
u can but u have to be careful to only cut the very tip like i show in the video if u go too far back it will hurt & bleed so they wont want to let u do it again
it depends on their personality and how long i've had them and how well trained, i would use a cage if i wanted to let them sit out there and couldn't stay and watch them close or i use a lizard harness when we are out but in their back yard i put in a full fence from the ground up so they can't get out plus i train them to want in when they are done being out and i hold them or walk them for several months till they know they dont need to run away & their room is where they feel safest too
Great! Thanks glad u like them and i'm always making more videos right now i'm making more for reptileuv and how to use their megaray and combo reptile lighting
nice thank you for helping me! now i know much more the i knew for 1 hour about iguans and thats just good becouse now i have more experience of them, but i still have one question , im gonna go to the store next week and i really want a male iguana becouse i thik they are most beauteful ,but when i am inside the store
i wanna make sure that i buy a male iguana , so can u give me a tip how i see that it is a boy when they are babies
great i'm glad i could help you learn something new, well you can't tell a male from a female when they are babys not until they are about 1 yo can most people tell, keep watching my videos & reading more about igs they are very complex, expensive & more of a lifestyle then just a reptile pet, email me anytime if you have more questions
take a look at my telling a male from a female video, its called a dewlap, you can read more on them at greeniguanasociety, org and anapsid, org for general care and reptileuv, com uvguide,uk for lighting and safe products
Hey that video is very helpfull. I dont know much about Iguana's but I a'm reading up on them. I have a baby Iguana's he was about 2 to 3 weeks old when i got him, but now he has some real sharp claws.cam i cut his claw like you did you adult's or do i have to wait till he gets bigger to cut his claws?
yea u can cut them just go slow and be very careful to only cut the very tips off, its easy to go to far up and if it hurts then they wont want you to do it again so make sure you can see the very end to cut off cause you might not be able to see the quik where the blood is but as u can see in the video it goes most of the way down
ah i'm glad you liked the video, watch my others on feeding a baby ig and lighting is most important to them & i have anew one on a habitat for a baby ig, be sure and watch them all the way thru theres a price list at the end cause igs are expensive high matainance, complex animals to haveso theres alot to learn about them first & making sure you have everything first before getting one is very important if u want them to live a long time & be healthy, a good reptile vet is needed too
find a good vet using anapsid, org & read up on their care & foods also read greeniguanasociety, org learn about lighting @ UVGuide,uk & order the safest lights & supplies at reptileuv, com i only use their stuff also u can join babyiguana advancediguanacare & uvb_meter_owners all on yahoo groups for more help in learning
Thanks, yea make sure to read everything on them first & get your set up right first it helps them settle much better then if things are not right yet, they need a hidebox, great uvb light, fresh foods & a fecal check for worms at a vet, read more at greeniguanasociety, org anapsid, org reptileuv, com uvguide,uk u can join babyiguana advancediguanacare & uvb_meter_owners groups on yahoo for more & let me know if u have any ?'s too cause u will need to spend about $1000 a year to keep an ig
thanks again i posted on some other videos as well u really help a lot now do u think there is anyway to get an iguana to not be as aggressive like woody. gizmo seems to be nice and calm.
well alot of hands on care & taking them places with you and doing things with them helps alot so they see its ok to have fun & not be scared of people or other animals but some like woody don't want to be anyones pet he wants to be wild & gizmo is nice when we are outside or going somewhere she is very sweet & kisses me all the time for taking her but at home in her territory she gets very defensive & threatens to bite when u touch her some igs are like that but out of her area shes fine
well you can email me here as i answer all the time my main email is lizardtail@cox,net also read up at greeniguanasociety, org & anapsid, org for general care info i only use reptileuv, com lights & products read about reptile lighting on reptileuv & uvguide,uk great groups are advancediguanacare, babyiguana, uvb_meter_owners all on yahoo groups and watch my feeding videos and lighting videos if you need more just let me know thats what i'm here for
well i have videos showing all 3 of my igs getting a bath you fill the tub with enuff water to cover half way up their side so they can float alittle but for young or baby igs put a rock or something they can hold on to so they can relax alittle then when they poop let it drain & rinse them off with warm clean water & the tub too. once a week i rinse the tub with bleach & water cause i only take showers but do it before kids use tub for a bath does that help?
oh and dont use soap to wash them it dries out their skin too much unless they pooped and got it all over them and it dried then let them soak for a while and try to rinse it off and if u have to use soap use something gental like ivory soap and the less the better but never give an iguana a bubble bath! it can get in the eyes, nose and mouth and dry the skin
are they moving? like little tiny dots they could be mites if not then it can be a skin infection a vet would need to take a look sometimes silvadine cream can heal that but your ig may need more help its why they need excellent uvb light cause it keeps their skin clean, it can be a skin fungus also either way it means his immune system is not working very well i hate to tell ya but if u can get him to a vet and alot of sunshine or uvb light it will help he may also need anti-biotics if its bad
cool they are one of the better greens but go easy on the bok choy they cant have alot of it it has oxilates (sp) in it & they are not good for igs, check out my feeding baby igs video i just uploaded for tons of food pics but still goto greeniguanasociety, org to see which are everyday foods and not as i tried to not make the video so long, keep looking and asking around some store will order them for you, try collards & turnip greens & dandelion greens maybe hibiscus plants just wash them good
Alright. my dad just ordered some healthy greens that i probaly never eat. ima ask him to buy it constantly for my iggy *crosses fingers* for him to say yes
Happy late Halloween to u to lol you might ask one of the stores to order you the foods you need alot of them will if they know you'll buy them so maybe you could try that and ask all they can say is no
Ya i noticed how cheap the pet stores can be. i dont always give it to em. just when i go home from school. i put a lil. ya i went around with my bike looking for food. but asian markets lable their veggies in vietnamese, i don understand..theres another asian market near me. but ever since hurricane ike hitted us, they dont seem to hav good new veggies
why are u looking in asian markets? a regular food store will have most everything or are they not open yet? you can use pet store food for now just so he will have something to eat and wheat bread and cooked pasta until you can get good greens, veggies and fruit
Ya i give em baths on a daily schedule =] they enjoy being dried by the hair dryer. and ya my iguana seems healthy. he's active and ive been giving him the pebble looking food from the pet store. i wet it and put it into his food. fortified with calcium (d'.'d)
thats good they do love a bath well most of them lol you should really try to switch over to fresh foods the pet store foods have too much protein in them to be used everyday but they wont tell you that cause they just want to sell u stuff but real food is always better for them
Hey i noticed something weird about my iguanas claw. its looks as if its swollen and was wondering if it's an infection. i tried putting cornstarch on it, since tat was wat i read off the internent. all of its other claws are ok. but theres 1 claw tats like bumpy and a lil fatter then the other claws. Help mrbinty.
well the cornstarch is only to stop bleeding real fast try putting alittle neosporan on it if its cut other then that it should heal up fine if your iguana is healthy it will just take a week but if it swells up really bad or gets worst then you should let a vet look at it so he doesn't get real sick but if they are healthy they can heal up just fine just try and keep his cage clean and give baths everyday or so.
no you dont want to use sand, just newspaper or brown paper or even reptile carpet or indoor-outdoor carpet but not regular carpet like on the floor cause the loops can wrap around a toe and cut the blood off and sand and other stuff can get suck inside if eaten alot and block them up and kill them never use bark or wood chips and use a hide box also
well under megaray uvb lights they do make D3 in their skin and can use the calcium they eat in a great diet, check out the post under this one for more on this :)
hey i no the uvb light is for the iguana to produce vitamin`d3. but is tat for it to absorb calcium from wat it eats or produce its own? oh and good news. i got a new bigger home for it =] aquarium
hey, yep thats why the megaray uvb lights are the best they are hand made and tested with a uvb meter to make sure they will help reptiles use the type of calcium in the foods they eat but the uvb converts 7-dehydrocholesterol into vitamin D3 in the skin cells. with cheap uvb lights you have to try and add D3 in their food but you can never know if they get enuff or too much but the megarays give them all the uvb they need for their bodies to make all they need in the right amounts each day
hey i feed my iguana banannas, apple, grapes, cucumbers, watermelon since it has a lot of juice..and something orange with a hard name i cant remember..u think tats okay?
well those are ok to add in but not to only use, they need greens more so check out my feeding iguanas video and then goto greeniguanasociety, org for a list you can print out also
well be careful cause that stuff is mostly sugar and made for people not so much reptiles and they need different stuff then we do. some people just use a centrum vitamin pill and break it up fine and add about 1/3 to 1/2 to their food once or twice a week or so. and also those drinks have favors like citrus thats not very good for reptiles.
hey i just found out this cool drink. UHHH vitamin water? think i can let my iguana drink it? theres a lot of vitamins..but theres sugar. but im asking you since ur the iguana expert
yea its prolly not good to use alot, water is best but we can give them petalite or gator ade when they are sick to help them. giving them a big variety of good foods and get some rep-cal herptivite it doesn't cost much and you can add alittle afew times a week to give them vitamins they can use much easier
well just like if your finger gets infected it will be swollen it will hurt if touched you have to be careful with tail infections if theres a cut keep some neosporan on it and keep it clean if they are eating good and healthy they should be fine but watch the tail because if it gets worst they can lose part of the tail or have to get a vet to cut the bad part off. read more at anapsid, org and if ur not sure then a vet trip might be needed
Ya i do the sunshine outside thing :p i think i hav 1 of those light thingies from home depot.. i gotta check. but hey thanks man. he's starting to eat his food. but still runs away from the hand lol.
Dang it. I only got 1 uvb light bulb thingy left. And my dad is to lazy to get another and says its a waste of money..Im scared he wont get healthy and get cold since winters coming :/ I cant wait till i get a job and do what i want..
well if you can get a 50 watt halogen flood light for like $3 and a 26 watt compact fluorescent (not a uvb) with a 5000 kelvin color rating for maybe $4 both at lowes or home depot then he will be warm and have some good lighting to see well and then as soon as you can order a megaray uvb light so he can grow and be healthy untill you can order the megaray try and get your iguana outside in real sunshine for an hour a day aslong as its above 70 outside so he can get the uvb he must have
Hey those lights tat hav tat similar sun ray light thingy. i bought the light bulbs for it and it easily burns out.and was wondering do they need the sun rays. or do they just need to stay warm?
well all of the brand name reptile lights in most pet stores will only put out UVB for maybe 6 months but if you order megaray uvb lights from reptileuv, com they can last 2 or 3 times longer & if one does burn out they even give you a 6 month warrenty for the 100 watt self ballasted and 1 year for the externally ballasted one plus they are much more brighter like sunshine & put out uvb at a longer distance from the lizard never use compact fluorescent uvb lights they're made in china & dangerous
they need bright light, heat, uva, uvb and you have to combine 3 types of lights for them to see in full color and stay very healthy, check out my lighting videos on megaray combo lighting
no you can't they want their own terrortory after the age of about 1yo and will fight with each other to make one leave and adults will kill each other so no you cant have two males even in the same room together in 2 different cages they have to be in different rooms and its best to only have one iguana as they get jealous of each other
hope so, theres somethings like lighting, food and vet care u have to spend money on for them to be healthy but other things you can save money on too its just learning which is which lol
i doubt it because the male will keep jumping on the female & if she doesn't like him or want to mate they will fight & hurt each other cause she can't get away and you'll end up with alot of vet bills not all iguanas like each other just like people & if they dont they never will & he would become VERY aggressive at you if u get near her or try to take her out of their cage its best to only have one iguana cause they get jealous of each other
its best to only have one cause they see people as other iguanas in a way so if you have only one it will bond with you so much better and wont be so jealous and wont be lonely either long as you do stuff with your ig all the time
Sorry about asking you all these questions but I really want to get a male iguana I heard they were really agrssive but I thought if I got him young enough and he got used to me he'd almost be as nice as a female (plus my mom bonds with all the pets in the house and I heard that male iguanas don't like women so this might be my only chance to have a pet that actually doesn't like my mom lol)
np questions are fine yes you can train them to be very nice if you put the time in with them everyday but each iguana has its own personality & its hard to say how they will turn out while older, he might like her more then u cause shes a female or some males like male owners cause they dont like females telling them what to do theres also afew like my woody that dont want to be a pet & dont like anyone much but alot of it is up to how much you work with them they can be trained but still wild
yea shes only fool'n though, i was lucky i caught her in a good mood and she let me do it without a threat display cause half the time shes a touch me not girl! lol
What Are u feeding ur iguana at get that nice green color

MrBinty1440 2 years ago
You say you let them go outside, i wonder, do you put them in an outside cage? or do you just let them free roam the garden?
Hemancook 2 years ago
it depends on their personality and how long i've had them and how well trained, i would use a cage if i wanted to let them sit out there and couldn't stay and watch them close or i use a lizard harness when we are out but in their back yard i put in a full fence from the ground up so they can't get out plus i train them to want in when they are done being out and i hold them or walk them for several months till they know they dont need to run away & their room is where they feel safest too

nice thank you for helping me! now i know much more the i knew for 1 hour about iguans and thats just good becouse now i have more experience of them, but i still have one question , im gonna go to the store next week and i really want a male iguana becouse i thik they are most beauteful ,but when i am inside the store
i wanna make sure that i buy a male iguana , so can u give me a tip how i see that it is a boy when they are babies
zebastiandaztian 2 years ago
great i'm glad i could help you learn something new, well you can't tell a male from a female when they are babys not until they are about 1 yo can most people tell, keep watching my videos & reading more about igs they are very complex, expensive & more of a lifestyle then just a reptile pet, email me anytime if you have more questions
MrBinty1440 2 years ago
would you recomend doing this with a 5 month old iguana cause my hands abd arms are all cut up from him/her
Adam193 2 years ago
sure long as you can see exactly where to cut so you dont go to far up and if he or she well sit there long enuff for you to do it.
MrBinty1440 2 years ago
how do you know if its male of female

Hey that video is very helpfull. I dont know much about Iguana's but I a'm reading up on them. I have a baby Iguana's he was about 2 to 3 weeks old when i got him, but now he has some real sharp claws.cam i cut his claw like you did you adult's or do i have to wait till he gets bigger to cut his claws?
Newbigb 3 years ago
yea u can cut them just go slow and be very careful to only cut the very tips off, its easy to go to far up and if it hurts then they wont want you to do it again so make sure you can see the very end to cut off cause you might not be able to see the quik where the blood is but as u can see in the video it goes most of the way down
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Yeah im getting my first iggy real soon so big big thanks for this help. Its the best when nice people put tutorial vids on yoututbe of any kind.
Napalmburns 3 years ago
ah i'm glad you liked the video, watch my others on feeding a baby ig and lighting is most important to them & i have anew one on a habitat for a baby ig, be sure and watch them all the way thru theres a price list at the end cause igs are expensive high matainance, complex animals to haveso theres alot to learn about them first & making sure you have everything first before getting one is very important if u want them to live a long time & be healthy, a good reptile vet is needed too
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
find a good vet using anapsid, org & read up on their care & foods also read greeniguanasociety, org learn about lighting @ UVGuide,uk & order the safest lights & supplies at reptileuv, com i only use their stuff also u can join babyiguana advancediguanacare & uvb_meter_owners all on yahoo groups for more help in learning
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
ur a good help i gettin a baby green soon thx.. i like woody
disturbedrocker1 3 years ago

Colby1095 3 years ago
well alot of hands on care & taking them places with you and doing things with them helps alot so they see its ok to have fun & not be scared of people or other animals but some like woody don't want to be anyones pet he wants to be wild & gizmo is nice when we are outside or going somewhere she is very sweet & kisses me all the time for taking her but at home in her territory she gets very defensive & threatens to bite when u touch her some igs are like that but out of her area shes fine

I have a request.Could you make a vid on how to wash iguanas?
TVJUNK85 3 years ago
well i have videos showing all 3 of my igs getting a bath you fill the tub with enuff water to cover half way up their side so they can float alittle but for young or baby igs put a rock or something they can hold on to so they can relax alittle then when they poop let it drain & rinse them off with warm clean water & the tub too. once a week i rinse the tub with bleach & water cause i only take showers but do it before kids use tub for a bath does that help?
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
oh and dont use soap to wash them it dries out their skin too much unless they pooped and got it all over them and it dried then let them soak for a while and try to rinse it off and if u have to use soap use something gental like ivory soap and the less the better but never give an iguana a bubble bath! it can get in the eyes, nose and mouth and dry the skin
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
black patches? as in like the finger is like big and black?
LizardKhang 3 years ago
my igg has thes black patches all over its feet how do i wash those off and how do i clean other parasites?
joezilla1994 3 years ago
are they moving? like little tiny dots they could be mites if not then it can be a skin infection a vet would need to take a look sometimes silvadine cream can heal that but your ig may need more help its why they need excellent uvb light cause it keeps their skin clean, it can be a skin fungus also either way it means his immune system is not working very well i hate to tell ya but if u can get him to a vet and alot of sunshine or uvb light it will help he may also need anti-biotics if its bad
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
ALRIGHTTTT! took me hours to search but! mustard greens! woo hoo! bought em wit my own money :D and i think they hav bok choy too. YESS happy day.
LizardKhang 3 years ago
cool they are one of the better greens but go easy on the bok choy they cant have alot of it it has oxilates (sp) in it & they are not good for igs, check out my feeding baby igs video i just uploaded for tons of food pics but still goto greeniguanasociety, org to see which are everyday foods and not as i tried to not make the video so long, keep looking and asking around some store will order them for you, try collards & turnip greens & dandelion greens maybe hibiscus plants just wash them good
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Alright. my dad just ordered some healthy greens that i probaly never eat. ima ask him to buy it constantly for my iggy *crosses fingers* for him to say yes
LizardKhang 3 years ago
cool i hope so they really need their greens and veggies
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Ya its cuz i cant drive alll the way to fiesta ..i can try on my bike of course. im still lookin around places. btw happy halloween
LizardKhang 3 years ago
Happy late Halloween to u to lol you might ask one of the stores to order you the foods you need alot of them will if they know you'll buy them so maybe you could try that and ask all they can say is no
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Ya i noticed how cheap the pet stores can be. i dont always give it to em. just when i go home from school. i put a lil. ya i went around with my bike looking for food. but asian markets lable their veggies in vietnamese, i don understand..theres another asian market near me. but ever since hurricane ike hitted us, they dont seem to hav good new veggies
LizardKhang 3 years ago
why are u looking in asian markets? a regular food store will have most everything or are they not open yet? you can use pet store food for now just so he will have something to eat and wheat bread and cooked pasta until you can get good greens, veggies and fruit
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Ya i give em baths on a daily schedule =] they enjoy being dried by the hair dryer. and ya my iguana seems healthy. he's active and ive been giving him the pebble looking food from the pet store. i wet it and put it into his food. fortified with calcium (d'.'d)
LizardKhang 3 years ago
thats good they do love a bath well most of them lol you should really try to switch over to fresh foods the pet store foods have too much protein in them to be used everyday but they wont tell you that cause they just want to sell u stuff but real food is always better for them
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Hey i noticed something weird about my iguanas claw. its looks as if its swollen and was wondering if it's an infection. i tried putting cornstarch on it, since tat was wat i read off the internent. all of its other claws are ok. but theres 1 claw tats like bumpy and a lil fatter then the other claws. Help mrbinty.
LizardKhang 3 years ago
well the cornstarch is only to stop bleeding real fast try putting alittle neosporan on it if its cut other then that it should heal up fine if your iguana is healthy it will just take a week but if it swells up really bad or gets worst then you should let a vet look at it so he doesn't get real sick but if they are healthy they can heal up just fine just try and keep his cage clean and give baths everyday or so.
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
if i wash off some sand out of a sand box will it be ok to use as bedding?,pleas reply soon i have to make the disision now
joezilla1994 3 years ago
no you dont want to use sand, just newspaper or brown paper or even reptile carpet or indoor-outdoor carpet but not regular carpet like on the floor cause the loops can wrap around a toe and cut the blood off and sand and other stuff can get suck inside if eaten alot and block them up and kill them never use bark or wood chips and use a hide box also
help this helps
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
yep it could have been
joezilla1994
yeh mine lost the end of his toe and that might have somthin to do with it.

Thanks, and yep people really need to learn first and then decide to buy or not. or beter yet adopt an unwanted one first. but your right!
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
it wont produce it's own calcium. it's from a good diet and calcium suppliment
UROMASTYXKEEPER 3 years ago
well under megaray uvb lights they do make D3 in their skin and can use the calcium they eat in a great diet, check out the post under this one for more on this :)
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
hey i no the uvb light is for the iguana to produce vitamin`d3. but is tat for it to absorb calcium from wat it eats or produce its own? oh and good news. i got a new bigger home for it =] aquarium
LizardKhang 3 years ago
hey, yep thats why the megaray uvb lights are the best they are hand made and tested with a uvb meter to make sure they will help reptiles use the type of calcium in the foods they eat but the uvb converts 7-dehydrocholesterol into vitamin D3 in the skin cells. with cheap uvb lights you have to try and add D3 in their food but you can never know if they get enuff or too much but the megarays give them all the uvb they need for their bodies to make all they need in the right amounts each day
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
and oh cool i'm glad you got a bigger home for yours! :)
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
ok thanks
M0m0Nguyen 3 years ago
hey i feed my iguana banannas, apple, grapes, cucumbers, watermelon since it has a lot of juice..and something orange with a hard name i cant remember..u think tats okay?
M0m0Nguyen 3 years ago
well those are ok to add in but not to only use, they need greens more so check out my feeding iguanas video and then goto greeniguanasociety, org for a list you can print out also
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
alright. sounds pretty unhealthy for iguanas. ima not do tat. but thanks
LizardKhang 3 years ago
Well time to go buy vitamin water.. ima put somr regular water. and then pour a lil vitamin. 20 percent each vitamin ;o
LizardKhang 3 years ago
well be careful cause that stuff is mostly sugar and made for people not so much reptiles and they need different stuff then we do. some people just use a centrum vitamin pill and break it up fine and add about 1/3 to 1/2 to their food once or twice a week or so. and also those drinks have favors like citrus thats not very good for reptiles.
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
hey i just found out this cool drink. UHHH vitamin water? think i can let my iguana drink it? theres a lot of vitamins..but theres sugar. but im asking you since ur the iguana expert
LizardKhang 3 years ago
yea its prolly not good to use alot, water is best but we can give them petalite or gator ade when they are sick to help them. giving them a big variety of good foods and get some rep-cal herptivite it doesn't cost much and you can add alittle afew times a week to give them vitamins they can use much easier
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
hey mr binty uhh. how do u tell if an iguana has an injection or tail infection.
LizardKhang 3 years ago
well just like if your finger gets infected it will be swollen it will hurt if touched you have to be careful with tail infections if theres a cut keep some neosporan on it and keep it clean if they are eating good and healthy they should be fine but watch the tail because if it gets worst they can lose part of the tail or have to get a vet to cut the bad part off. read more at anapsid, org and if ur not sure then a vet trip might be needed
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Ya i do the sunshine outside thing :p i think i hav 1 of those light thingies from home depot.. i gotta check. but hey thanks man. he's starting to eat his food. but still runs away from the hand lol.
LizardKhang 3 years ago
Dang it. I only got 1 uvb light bulb thingy left. And my dad is to lazy to get another and says its a waste of money..Im scared he wont get healthy and get cold since winters coming :/ I cant wait till i get a job and do what i want..
LizardKhang 3 years ago
well if you can get a 50 watt halogen flood light for like $3 and a 26 watt compact fluorescent (not a uvb) with a 5000 kelvin color rating for maybe $4 both at lowes or home depot then he will be warm and have some good lighting to see well and then as soon as you can order a megaray uvb light so he can grow and be healthy untill you can order the megaray try and get your iguana outside in real sunshine for an hour a day aslong as its above 70 outside so he can get the uvb he must have
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Hey those lights tat hav tat similar sun ray light thingy. i bought the light bulbs for it and it easily burns out.and was wondering do they need the sun rays. or do they just need to stay warm?
LizardKhang 3 years ago
well all of the brand name reptile lights in most pet stores will only put out UVB for maybe 6 months but if you order megaray uvb lights from reptileuv, com they can last 2 or 3 times longer & if one does burn out they even give you a 6 month warrenty for the 100 watt self ballasted and 1 year for the externally ballasted one plus they are much more brighter like sunshine & put out uvb at a longer distance from the lizard never use compact fluorescent uvb lights they're made in china & dangerous
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
they need bright light, heat, uva, uvb and you have to combine 3 types of lights for them to see in full color and stay very healthy, check out my lighting videos on megaray combo lighting
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Does anyone know if you can put to male iguanas in the same cage if they have grown up together?
tubatalk509 3 years ago
no you can't they want their own terrortory after the age of about 1yo and will fight with each other to make one leave and adults will kill each other so no you cant have two males even in the same room together in 2 different cages they have to be in different rooms and its best to only have one iguana as they get jealous of each other
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Thanks man you saved me alot of money
tubatalk509 3 years ago
hope so, theres somethings like lighting, food and vet care u have to spend money on for them to be healthy but other things you can save money on too its just learning which is which lol
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Thanks for the help man
tubatalk509 3 years ago
By the way I know this sounds like a stupid question but can you put a male and a female together without them breeding?????
tubatalk509 3 years ago
i doubt it because the male will keep jumping on the female & if she doesn't like him or want to mate they will fight & hurt each other cause she can't get away and you'll end up with alot of vet bills not all iguanas like each other just like people & if they dont they never will & he would become VERY aggressive at you if u get near her or try to take her out of their cage its best to only have one iguana cause they get jealous of each other
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
its best to only have one cause they see people as other iguanas in a way so if you have only one it will bond with you so much better and wont be so jealous and wont be lonely either long as you do stuff with your ig all the time
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Sorry about asking you all these questions but I really want to get a male iguana I heard they were really agrssive but I thought if I got him young enough and he got used to me he'd almost be as nice as a female (plus my mom bonds with all the pets in the house and I heard that male iguanas don't like women so this might be my only chance to have a pet that actually doesn't like my mom lol)
tubatalk509 3 years ago
np questions are fine yes you can train them to be very nice if you put the time in with them everyday but each iguana has its own personality & its hard to say how they will turn out while older, he might like her more then u cause shes a female or some males like male owners cause they dont like females telling them what to do theres also afew like my woody that dont want to be a pet & dont like anyone much but alot of it is up to how much you work with them they can be trained but still wild
MrBinty1440 3 years ago
Thanks man was waiting for a vid like this
