  • aaktow doesnt know shit from shat on musical abilities!!!!

  • I sing Cara Mia and She Cried and This Magic Moment BETTER than Jay Traynor , Jay Black, or any other Impostors!!! Arty in Brooklyn NYC

  • @ArtyElvis , the only thing you can do better than any one on youtube is to pull your tiny dick. you are a fucking joke.

  • Man, does this stuff ever get old?

  • You cannot mes with The Traynor - Jay rocks. Period

  • WHATS NOT TRUE? LEO ROSE WAS THE LEAD SINGER FOR THE EMPIRES AND

WAS WITH MARTY AND DID THE DEMO OF A TIME AND A PLACE, JAYS FIRST

SONG.... LEO LEFT THE GROUP, AND JAY AND THE AMERICANS WAS FORMED

LEO IS THE TRUE PREDECESSOR OF....JAY AND THE AMERICANS.........

  • A GUY BY THE NAME OF ...LEO ROSE...WAS THE ORIGINAL BEFORE JAY TRAINOR AND JAY BLACK.... HE LED THE 'EMPIRES' WHICH TRANSFORMED

INTI JAY AND THE AMERS....IT'S ALL IN THE VOCALHA;LLOFFAME/JAY..CHECK

IT OUT...A LOT OF PEPPLE DONT KNOW THAT

  • @lerosedit a lot of people don't know that because it isn't true. you have misinterpreted the story.

  • Actually, I believe there are no more "Jay & the Americans" anymore. Traynor is gone, now hanging around with the Tokens. Jay "Black", who came in after Traynor left after the first LP, has "lost" his name due to financial difficulties. I DID see an "Americans" group in Mumbai who sang all of these tunes in a concert a while back but I believe they were all Japanese folk.

  • @VishnuMa There is a group currently touring as Jay & The Americans but it does not include Jay Black the lead singer and hit maker of the group. He still performs using his name alone Jay Black and he is not to be missed if you have the opportunity to see him. His talent cannot be topped or copied.

  • @VishnuMa There is in fact the Original Americans tour with a 3rd Jay... Jay Reinke.

  • No one can sing this like Jay Black can. He's the only "Jay", doesn't matter who came before or after!

  • @Caramia112 I totally agree

  • @Caramia112 ... It doesn't matter to you, but you're hardly a quorum. David Blatt (the 2nd "Jay") was preceded and followed by two fine singers (who both happened to be named John, with their nicknames both being "Jay"). I'm a fan of "Jay Black", but there's no need to minimize the other two "Jays". That does nothing to honor Blatt at all. Just because they're not David Blatt doesn't mean they're not excellent popular vocalists. They are.

  • @bobbilse I could care less about Jay Trainor as he is not the "imposter". What I think is pathetic is that there is a "new" version of Jay & the Americans that exists simply because Jay Black lost the right to a name he & only he made big. The ex Americans are opportunists. What were they doing before they seized this opportunity, lounge singers perhaps? At least Kenny Vance went on to create his own group with his name and he made it! The new fake "Jay" will never fill Jay Black's shoes.

  • @Caramia112 ... You have every right to feel that way, of course... When David Blatt lost the rights to the name, it's fortunate it was bought in auction by an original American who, in partnership with two other originals, has continued on. They are drawing crowds and experiencing a successful work schedule. These crowds listen with their ears, not their hearts. Groups NEVER stay together in their original form, but the name becomes bigger than the individuals, quite often.

  • @bobbilse I listen with my heart and my ears and have heard nothing from the new "Jay" that remotely sounds like Jay Black and if he truly was that talented, he would be able to have a group and success based on HIS OWN NAME, not one bought at auction! I highly doubt if The Beatles name (for example) were sold at auction, the name would become more popular with imposters. Jay & The Americans is a memory that Jay Black keeps alive. I doubt you & I will ever agree, so I'm stopping with this.

  • ral donner was a very poular singer back in the 60's when these songs were all popular, he would definately know ... His brother Ron Donner worked with my Uncle and I met Ral (Ralph) Donner on a few occasions in person when I was a very young kid in Chicago ...

  • Jay Traynor, Jay Siegel, and Billy Reid are my bros. I do 20-30 shows with them a year. Everything they sing, every note the band plays, even their onstage patter, is pre-recorded and put on a CD.

Just kidding.. : D They are all the way live.

  • thanks for posting this song,it is awesome, always one of my favourites

  • thanks for posting this song,it is awesome

  • Jay's still got it.... Kudo's Jay.T.

  • WHAT A GREAT SONG AND SINGER

  • get it straight people,,yes Jay traynor, with Jay siegel and Bill reid,,This group never sings to traks,,never have and never will,,always a live performance,,

  • He still sings great!

  • For me Jay Traynor's voice was what made JATA's recordings special (like this track)and it is just lucky that they managed to go on to further success after he left them. He sounds as good here as he did when he made those recordings. A great stand out voice and very underated.

  • I was at this concert too and there was nothing fake about it.

  • One word "FANTASTIC" I had no idea Traynor was still performing, what a set of lungs, great vid, thanks!

    5*****

  • This is 100% real as recorded. Just a perfect vocalist.

    JF

  • This is actually Jay Traynor and The Tokens who he sings with now , this is not Jay and The Americans

    Eddie Black, The Five Sharks

  • @rakeuiff

i never said it was Jay and The American, I said it was the original lead singer of Jay and the Americans.

  • @raldonner your caption for the video is "Jay & The Americans "She Cried" (live!)". So, don't say you never said it was Jay and the Anericans.

  • @raldonner It is posted as Jay and The American's Live!, that is what I commented to!

  • This just brings back so many memories of 8th and 9th grade, and my first kiss to Renee.

On a sad note, I sent her this 45 when I joined the Air Force in 1966. She should have known by then, but you know, life just doesn't give you the answers you need.

    Joseph F

  • You are so wrong as I was at this concert and everything was live, that means the instruments, chorus and Jay singing, all live , trust me.

  • This performance is obviously being played from tape, with the instruments and chorus. Now I just wonder if Jay is singing or syncing.

  • No my friend it's all real. Some of us have talent.

  • But the violins.

  • @GeoSilverAway can do wonders with synthesizers

  • So it IS prerecorded. Fooling me around. I was starting to suspect synthesizer. Or is someone manually playing that? Anyway I believe the rest, the backing vocals sound perfect, they weren't hitmakers for nothing.

  • Again this is the original Jay, who sang this song but he is singing here with The Tokens his present group and who cares if it was prerecorded or not it is outstanding!!

  • @rakeuiff You are mistaken. This is not the tokens. It is Jay Taynor, but a house band.

    Joseph F

  • You can clearly see Jay Siegel in the purple jacket and grey hair right in the beginning of the clip I, Iknow Jay Seigel that is him and the other guy is the third guy The Tokens are only a three man act now with a back up band.

  • @rakeuiff No matter who, what or where, I do agree that Dr. Jay Seigel: but one has to agree that this is music that should be cherished for for generations.

Still, a very good presentation from what?, 55 years ago?

Stunning, I say; and nothing at all to mean Dr. Seigel, nothing whatsoever.

    Joseph F

  • @rakeuiff There's not a chance in hell this is prerecorded...

  • I have had the honor of performing in several shows wth Jay Siegel's Tokens. I can assure you that this is for real!

Peter King, The Royals of San Diego

  • You tell him Peter!!!

Eddie Black lead/first tenor, The Five Sharks

  • Nice to meet you Eddie!

  • Same here bro.

  • This guy still has tremendous voice control in every sense of the word. To have that much wind to carry those notes he must do a lot of running. No wavering very clear and and sharp. This is amazing . Mr.Traynor my respect, you are like wine you get better with age.

  • Jay Traynor and Jay Black (David Blatt) are both good in different ways. I personally prefer Jay Blacks vocals -he has a very powerful voice. But they are both very good, just different. I would see either of them given the opportunity. In fact, I did see Jay Black several years ago. He was great.

  • Comment removed

  • Rakeuiff is 100% right . He knows his stuff. Jay Black sold the rights for for the Americans for $100,000 after he got into trouble (again) gambling. He can never use the words Jay Black and The Americans again.

  • He sounds as good as he did 47 years ago, that's crazy Man!

  • Thank goodness Jay Black joined the band, imagine this guy trying to sing Cara Mia, what a hatchet job that would've been. His leaving Jay and the Americans was the best thing to happen to the band.

  • If it wasn't for Jay Traynor leaving the group, where would Jay Black be today?Still selling shoes? And what a hatchet job Jay Black was doing trying to sing She Cried and telling people that he was the original.

  • Comment removed

  • Jay Traynor is a nice guy and the original singer of this song....still sounds like he did.

  • GREAT JOB, JAY! I Love this song! YOU ROCK!

  • Not bad...Go see Jay and the Americans now with Jay 3 !! They are awesome!

  • was the b side, a side was Dawning. he now tours with the Jay Seigel & the Tokens.

  • Jay Black, like a fine wine, only gets BETTER with age!!!

When I saw him last, he sang the song "Hearts" and it was better than Marty Balin!!!

Wish I could get a copy of it!!!

  • agree, but yet this isnt jay black,,, this is the newest "jay" and he sux, cant compare to jay black, nor jay renicke

  • You are both wrong this is the original Jay Jay Tranor who sang She Cried their first hit long before Denis Blatt came along with Come a Little Bit Closer and changed his name to Jay Black, This is not even Jay and The American's This is Jay Traynor with The Tokens who he sings with now, You tube always mis lables this stuff .Personally I always liked the original Jay , Jay Traynor better , less operatic ,

    Eddie-The Five Sharks

  • this is a rock classic and who cares who sang it first or who is the best singer now? I loved it then and love it now.

  • John (Jay) traynor was the ORIGINAL Jay, it is HIS voice on the "she cried" 45, He lives in Albany NY, and sounds great..

  • No one can touch Jay Black on " Cara Mia " !!

  • @ventues97 Not the point , This is the original Jay singing their first hit, Cara Mia was another guy named Dennis Blatt who called himself Jay to keep the groups name, both good singers , no need to compare very different voices, everything need not be a pissing match, just enjoy the music! ! or move on to Cara Mia!

  • Jay Black still sings it better it concet!! Sorry!!

  • Jay Black sings wonderfully.. but Traynor has "an edge" to his voice..

  • jay black also does a terrific version of johnny mathis; what will my mary say in concert....but those of us around in 1961 remember jay traynor's voice on this haunting pop classic

  • @ventues97 ... You should be sorry. You're wrong.

  • His voice remains virtually the same. Although Jay Black probably had the greatest pop voice ever of anyone, Jay Traynor was and is a top singer too.

  • Nothing is better than the "ORIGINAL" Lead singer of Jay and the Americans singing that song

  • aerosmiths version of walkin in then sand is awesomealso

  • This song still gives me chills! Jay has an awsome voice!

  • wow, nice voice

  • This man is one of the most gracious people I have ever had the honor of meeting. The same goes for Jay Siegel and Bill Reid! It was certainly a privelege opening for them in Cerritos!

  • Another trivia footnote.Jay Traynor also sang

the songs "Blue Star" "White Cliffs of Dover",

and "Over the Rainbow" which many viewers heard when Tony Soprano was awakening out of his coma!

  • @bojowilliam Their version of Over the Rainbow blows me away. Best version I've ever heard.

  • A trivia footnote: Jay Traynor did sing lead for The Mystics for awhile, but did not join until well after their biggest hit. The lead singer on "Hushabye" was Phil Cracolici. The Mystics went through several lead singers, settling on Paul Simon (yes, THAT Paul Simon, with the stage name of "Jerry Landis"!). When Simon left, Jay Traynor came in as lead, and sang several sides before leaving.

  • His name is David Blatt!

  • This is not Jay and The Americans, Jay Treynor the original lead , now sings with The Tokens, This is him with The Tokens, Info gotten from Kenny Vance one of the original Americans , he sounds awsome.

  • Face it Jay Black had most if not all of the hits. Who even remembers Jay Treynor!

  • Well first of all this is not a competition it`s a matter of personal taste , although I liked Dennis`s (his real name) first couple of songs with The Americans , I did not care for the operatic turn it took after awhile. As for hits with The Americans, well Jay Treinor quit the group so one can know or compare what would have been , but I do love his voice , it`s a matter of taste , So don`t go commando about it. it`s only rock and roll and there is enough for everyone to like.

  • Wow, chill!

  • Yes i agree , you really should.

  • WHO IS DENNIS?

  • Jay Black`s real first name, Dennis Black is his real name , and apparently Jay was used to keep the name of the group intact , here is a interesting side fact Only in America was written for The Drifters , and they recorded it but they or their manager did not like it , so The Drifters voices were mixed out of it , and the song was brought to Jay and The Americans , who recorded to the original music soundtract the rest is history.

  • His birth name was David Blatt. He changed it to David Black. When he replaced Jay Traynor, he became Jay Black..so they could still be "Jay and the Americans."

I've seen him at Westbury in NY several times..he dresses nice and sounds Great!

  • Yes Jay Black did have most of the hits for the Americans, but if it wasn't for Jay Traynor there won't be a Jay and the Americans.FYI-Jay Traynor was also the lead singer for the Mystics

    (ever hear of Hushabye).

  • You are so right, I heard and love Hushabye.

  • That's true for the UK, but the big hit in the US with this song was by Jay and the Americans.

  • Jay Traynor-The Original!!!!!!

  • This was a huge US #5 hit for Jay and the Americans in 1962.

  • Jay Traynor-The Original Jay is still thrilling audiences with his smooth voice. One of the greatest voices I've ever heard!

  • Jay Traynor has been singing with Jay Siegel and the Tokens. What kind of group is this here? Is Traynor in your other video? Look up my profile and my blog for more on this.

  • This is Jay Traynor with the Tokens (Jay Siegel & Bill).

  • The song "I rise I Fall" was done in 1964.The flip side is "How Sweet It Is" which is also a nice song.

  • Jay Black does do it better at almost 69 years old !!

  • Hmmm, not quite my fine feathered friend

  • If asked for my favorite performer of all time, Jay Black and the Americans might be. But Traynor was a different time, and each was perfectly suited to their time. Traynor's Coral single needs to be reissued for posterity.

  • Jay Black does it better!

  • Just to remind you that Jay Black did not sing lead on the the hit single of She Cried, it was Jay Traynor from the Mystics (Hushabye). The original artist who sang the hit version is always the best.

  • didnt say he sang on the first release..just said he sang it better...much better

  • The Black/Traynor debate can go on indefinitely. The bottom line is that Jay Black's natural tone and incredible vibrato/range does put him in a class by himself. That being said, Traynor has more of an authentic "doo-wop" sound. As for who is truly better between the Jays, I think there is no clear answer but, either way,Black does not do THIS song better by any means (Traynor's smooth crooner voice really hits the spot). If we're talking "Cara Mia," that might be another story.

  • you gotta be kidding me. Did Beau Black or Bobby Tomasci put you up to this? Jay Traynor originated the song.

  • Jay Traynor is rock royalty

  • I totaly agree with you.
