Still got my Sony A808. The sound quality STILL trounces any iPod out now, even with included buds (and even better with my v-moda's).

My A808 uses SonicStage (v4.3 is OK) to transfer music, but I need it as my ATRAC3plus files (192 and 256 kbps) sound stellar and plays those albums and mixes GAPLESS (MP3s play nearly gapless too). Also has on-the-go playlists, ratings and can delete music on the player.

A818 has identical hardware but loses Sonicstage, ATRAC, gapless etc but is drag and drop.

I'm pretty sure video uploads can be also done on Windows XP. As for WMP11, I've never used it for videos.

For me I use Any Video DVD Converter (Evaluation Version,) which I got online. Works well for me. It even has a "Sony Walkman" preset, so I don't have to work the settings manually.

Convert a video using the AVS Video Converter 4.4 , put To MP4 , choose the mp4 profile: Ipod mp4 - Optimal quality (Mpeg4, 20 fps, 320x240 ; MPEG4 AAC LC)

you have to name the video's with a special code AFTER you have converted them into a MP4 Format. And to be able to convert the video's is, you have to download "PSP video converter 6" and all your problems should be solved

the best way to get videos onto this is to use Videora iPod Converter- google it, convert videos to fit ipod nano 3g and then drag drop into video folder of sony

depends on what type of video's you want to put on it.

the nw-a800 only supports mpeg4 (mp4) file formats, so if your'e trying to load a quicktime video onto it, then it wont work!

you can try download a vid file converter thingy, to convert your vid files to mp4.

as for loading the actual video, the best way is to use wmp11 or drag n' drop feature, if yours is a NW-A81x series!

The screen is a 2" QVGA Colour LCD and has a resolution of 240x320 pixels.

So the Video quality is quite good, keeping in mind that 2" isn't very big.

You should consider getting one!

And a cool thing about it is that as well as supporing just ATRAC and MP3 Format files, it also supports AAC and is compatable with iTunes.

I would still stick with ATRAC though.

The usb is universal and i think that you should be ok. If not go to the sony website and it should say on there. I think its a high speed usb 2.0 but it should still work.

Also the walkman has a usb 2.0 connection lead that comes with and also w.m.p software aswell. The usb lead also charges your walkman aswell.

One question for the people that actually own one of these. Can you hide that green play bar at the bottom of the screen when you are viewing videos? Its just that when you're viweing things within such a small space every millimetre counts. Also kind of distracting that green bar isn't it? Cheers for any help.

iTunes works best in editing mp3 details and applying album covers, and you can convert bitrates to make the file size smaller and WMP is somewhat inconsistent in applying album covers and it can't convert bitrates but it looks way better than iTunes and for this player WMP is better to use than sonicstage...

It puts a wrapper around the MP3 file that lets the player play the MP3. So it doesn't re-encode the file in any way (still original MP3 quality). I don't know why they do this - it's strange.

Your airplane problem is a very strange one. I've had loads of Walkman MP3 players and I make about 90 filghts a year and I've never had the problem you describe.

I encode ATRAC at 160KBPS and find it very high quality. In comparison with MP3/WMA at 192KBPS I think they all sound great on Sony players. The downside of encoding to ATRAC is that it only plays on Sony MP3 players - if you switch to a different manufacturer in future you need to re-rip your CDs. The big advantage of ATRAC is that it's gapless so you don't get the short silence between tracks that you get with MP3 & WMA when listening music where one track merges into another.

The sansa series isn't crap, I'd say build quality wise it's on par with all the sony mp3 players I've had in the past. Its the software that lets sony down, connect and sonicstage are next to the worst pieces of software I've used in my life. I'm getting a sansa because I can just use windows explorer.

Admittedly, Sony isn't so strong on software. But in terms of build-quality, nothing beats Sony DAPs. The Sansa series uses plastic casings, while the Network Walkmen generally use metal, which is far more durable. Not to mention general reliability.

It's because Sony have accessories that can attach to their connector, such as a Bluetooth dongle for pairing the Walkman with compatible headphones, car stereos, hi-fis, computers, etc.

Most DAPs actually don't use a mini USB connector on the unit itself. For instance, most of the iPods use the proprietary 30-pin dock connector. And Creative Labs DAPs also use proprietary connectors.
