  • We can ear a dog at the very start. Listen very carefully

  • Getting into a musician only to realize that they have been dead for years is a pretty awful feeling.

  • It's crazy. I always get an image of him when I hear this song. It's always like seeing him, (through my eyes), recording the song for the first time. He's gone, but we all die, and look at what he gave us.

  • Every really truly talented musician dies young. Kurt, Elliott, Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Harrison, Lennon...imagine what music would be like if they were all still alive. I personally think it would be something completely different and, in my opinion, much better. But who knows. McCartney is still kicking and music still sucks

  • @trixiekaii put more vids up please

  • hey im 15 years old and im starting to make acoustic indie folk music.. if your interested check out my channel..thanks!

  • @trixirkaii put more vids up plz

  • Essa música parece só me lembra minha namorada *----------*

  • i feel like im the youngest lonliest listener.

  • american pie brought me here.. ;)

  • But I'll be alright withchrist Jesus

  • Death to everyone is gonna come

  • Wasted addictions seared unconscionable hurt lost blind and lame

  • I'm waiting for deaths arrival so I can at least be happy.

  • @Meridianlost Please post an answer to this comment. I'm serious. That comment doesn't look promising, and even though I don't know you, I... just please, post an answer.

  • i wish modern music was as beautiful as elliott's but it can never be as good... i wish elliott was still alive!!!

  • check out my channel? i write my own acoustic stuff (im 15) and support is much appreciated.

  • So good. I miss elliot.

  • We are an indie folk/rock band looking for support.

  • What freak disliked this..?

  • I came here because someone told me that if the comicbook Blankets had a sound, it sound like Elliott Smith. I was pretty sceptical there could be music as emotionally genuine as that comic. I was wrong.

  • Vocals were recorded during a cathartic trance at a sacred place in the forest, with a mini-disc recorder.

  • The day i 1st listened to this song, i learned it on my guitar immediately. Then i sang this to my mom, and my dad, and they gave me a huge hug, a thing that they haven't done in some time, since i grew up a little bit more. Thanks Elliott, for making the relation i have with my parents even more happier than it was before.

  • Thumbs up if a movie didn't bring you here

  • I've been listening to Elliot Smith since I was in middle school cause of my sister, and I think theirs to many American Pies and the ones I have seen are stupid. But I'm glad that it brought people here to listen to some good music.

  • Another representative of the 90s kids.. This is probably Elliott's only happy song, so it makes me happy knowing that Elliott was at least a little bit happy in his unhappy life! I only wish I was born earlier so I could have met such an extraordinary man :(

  • this song makes me cry for some reason.. shit!

  • i wish this song was longer, so i wouldnt have to press replay so often.

  • My boyfriend brought me here :)

  • I apologize for what my generation has done music, even if I was born in the 90s, I only started listening to music in the 2000s. It's really sad to say but American Pie brought me here. Actually this was the only song that hit me throughout the whole movie, it was nice that they put this song close to the end. Music of my generation, Y U NO HAVE MEANING LIKE THIS?!!?

  • @branwille007 same mate. Big up to the 90's born :D, Ive not even seen the film but i know queit alot of people have came here because of that film. Shame Elliott past away so young he coulda made bigger songs and who knows made a bigger name for himself.

  • @Rabsmyth1 I've heard the song before from my dad's CDs though I never bothered to ask the name of the song. I only remembered it through American Pie, went and looked for it just now. Yeah too bad he died early could have made better songs and made it bigger than some artists today.

  • @Rabsmyth1 man i was born on '94. man its true. our gen sucks

  • @Rabsmyth1 Even though he died young, he had five solo albums to his name and i can't even find one bad song on any of them.

  • @branwille007 listen to nevershoutnever theres lots of meaning in that :)

  • @branwille007 As a fellow 90s guy, I feel exactly the way you do. :(

  • @branwille007 Don't feel bad, nobody heard of this guy till he was gone anyway. Good music always takes time to be appreciated.

  • There is plenty of great music happening right now, and Elliott Smith certainly wasn't topping the charts back in 1997; it was all terrible boy bands, syrupy ballads, and godawful rap-rock. Give it 10 years and all the YouTube comments will be complaining that music just isn't what it used to be in 2012.

  • @ABitMoreStuff Could not agree more.

  • @branwille007 Sorry guys but 90's music "on a whole" sucked ass. Not saying its better than this era but its still pretty bad. The 90's had some good artists but by no means were the 90's a great era of music.

  • @branwille007 I am here with you, this world has gone down hill, I am a 90s kid aswell. I listen to classics and rock because the stuff now makes me sick

  • @branwille007 Plenty of music in the 2000s has meaning. If you're listening to shit that's your own fault. Every generation has wonderful artists.

  • @branwille007 ever heard of the fleet foxes?

  • @branwille007 i don't know, have you tried searching for music? people who say stuff like usually dont know anything about music. Elliott Smith wasn't that unique

  • @branwille007 It's not our generation's fault, you gotta look at the ones running the music business these days. They're the ones that produce that crap in such large quantities that our generation gets desensitized into buying it.

  • @branwille007 honestly it sounds like you are fond of nostalgia to the point of making things from the past out to be way better than they were and things from the present to be much worse than they are. most of todays music has meaning. very similar meaning to music from every other generation. a slow tempo and a sad sound doesnt mean the song is deep. you can put enlightened thoughts to a techno beat, and can put bullshit to a soulful melody.

  • @taylorwasbarrett Maybe. But putting a song about something deep, lets use death for an example, behind a techno beat doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

  • @branwille007 there is good music in this generation, youre just too stupid to find it

  • @pablo01grillo

There isn't Elliott Smith in this generation.

  • @branwille007 It's out there, it's just not on the radio. Keep digging and see live music as often as you can. Get a guitar and start writing!

  • someone I love brought me here *sigh*

  • @jhearvy me too.

  • @jhearvy me too, friend... :(

  • Random music exploration brought me here

  • my god this song is so fucking beautiful.

  • I don't want to love this song more than I do, because I....I don't ever want to do what he did. It makes no sense, but this song makes me feel better when I hurt. Anyway... I am busy hitting the replay button now, so... yeah

  • @unclearless Yeah it doesn't, stay strong my freind

  • @Rabsmyth1 Stay thirsty my friend.

  • FINALLY I FOUND THIS SONG! ! i'm happy lol

  • @yaabr Same here :)

  • Good Will Hunting brought me here… But Elliott Smith is keeping me here.

  • PLEASE GIVE ME THUMBS UP I HAVE NO LIFE AND THE ONLY THING THAT COULD ACTUALLY MAKE ME HAPPY IS TO SEE A GREEN THUMB UP WITH A LARGE NUMBER NEXT TO IT UNDER MY VERY USELESS COMMENT :D (lols jk, please guys, start appreciating music for what it is and stop making this something it isin't. Thanks)

  • @ZeBooOmbshell when i read the first part of your comment i was like omg... lol

  • @Rabsmyth1 haha yeh it's the point of it i guess.. haha you do know some people actually do this fo real, no jokes? lol

  • my internet brought me here

  • @mlopes87 Purple Popes 4 Life

  • Love for the sweet angel Elliott Smith, brought me here.

  • Apparently this song was about him believing he was in love. It's has this happy feeling to it, but it has a sense of doubt. I can't imagine what other gold Elliott would have created had he experienced more happiness in his life. Goes to show that his exceptional talent didn't come just from depression, as many claim.

  • @Cookoo4Coconutz Talent doesn't come from depression, talent is always there. Depression just gives somebody a topic to talk about.

Or happiness, needed more of that.

  • whoa his song is so great and i was looking for any new ones and then i realized that he died :'( His music is so good it is a shame that we lost him :( R.I.P </3

  • I didnt know this was on american pie

  • love this? me too. davesplaylist.co.uk

  • I hate the "...did not bring you here" Just because you were here before a group of people does not make you better. All it does it make you sound like a moron. Listen to the music and be happy people know such an amazing person as Elliott Smith.
