@whysorude90 he's holding it correctly. regularly, the low e is on the top. but it really depends if you're a righty or a lefty. he's a righty, so he has to strum with the right hand, and hold down the notes with the left.

I used to bust my g string all the time. On another note to all you aspiring guitarists. Just play these chords as hard as you can, as soft as you can, as plucky as you can. Make up your own songs even if its two chords. Do not get frustrated. Your hands will hurt. Your fingers will callas. It does not matter because you will love what you hear. Take comments about your music with a grain of salt but don't ever let it get you down. Play everywhere and play anything. Im outta characters good luck

Hm... I feel like I'd eventually be able to play chords individually... what I am scared I won't be able to do is move my fingers fast enough to play an actual song. Also I think my hands would get way too cramped up after a short period of time because I really messed up my hands from doing colorguard -_-

@zyxwME753 what you ought to do is massage your hand and fingers before and after playing. Don't worry about not being able to move your hands fast enough. That comes with lots of practice so keep working at it!

I have great ideas for good chord progression and such, and I learn stuff very easily, but I can't even play smoke on the water, cuz it's too FAST, changeup-wise! Also, my fingers aren't very long, so I can only just reach the right fret on certain strings when playing certain chords. :/

don't give up. jimi hendrix, eric clapton, jimmy page, kirk hammett, kurt cobain, johnny marr, and pretty much any other popular guitarist practiced for thousands of hours. once you get these basics down you can build off it and it's not hard.

Honestly once you know all these chords all the rest are easy to learn. Yes I know the F and B chord can be tricky but all you have to do is practice your fingerings and strum every individual string one at a time until you get it, trust me it took me a while.

And what could help beginners with the finger tips hurting is try doing the chords on a higher fret like the 7th fret, then it will be easier to learn the fingerings without quitting because of finger tips hurting badly.

This is Perfect! I know some chords can be nasty until you learn them well.

But, with a chord like D, you only play the notes/strings in the chord. ( xx0232 ). You don't want to strum the two thickest strings unless it's a slash chord. A common slash chord is D/F#.( 2x0232 )
