  • I'll take a Mig-21 over an English Electric Lightning anyday

  • @CaptJackSpeed So you're a fan of being shot down then ;)

  • @aspiringdrummer17 i don't worry. i'm an ace. it's not about combat flying anyway. if i had to chose between the lightning and Mig-21 as an airplane to own for fun, and, based on looks and ease of maint. , i'd pick the Mig-21.

  • @CaptJackSpeed

    I wouldnt

  • It brought down a lot of US planes, but it wasn't luck. Both this and the US planes of that era were beautiful and deadly.

  • They're both classic & great jets.

  • A great dog fighter but the Lightning had a number of problems that prevented export orders. At a time most air forces could only afford one type they chose multi-role aircraft like the Mirage and Phantom. Very short range, suitable for the UK but useless for a Canada or Australia. Undercarriage types so thin they had to be replaced after only 8 take off and landings. Unable to operate from a Royal Navy carrier as a long takeoff/landing run was required. Duncan Sands had a lot to answer for.

  • @binaway The Lightning was exported to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. For carrier operations, a swept-wing Sea Lightning has been seriously considered by BAC. However the RN chose the F-4 instead.

  • @RaptureandZune But how many exported? The French encouraged Fairey to test the Delta 2 in France, after the British Government refused native facilities. The French air-force studied these tests closely and built the Mirage III. In his book Marcel Dassault said Britain should have developed this aircraft into a service and would have exported them to the world. The Mirage III is not a copy but the French learned a lot.

  • @binaway Around 30. Such high-end interceptors have never been successful in exporting. The Lightning is not as multi-role as the Mirage 3. SU-15 would be a better comparison.

  • mig vs lightning mig will die

  • Mig-21= Eagle food!

  • gyönyörűek!

  • Same price now as a 911.

  • I was there at Fairford that weekend, I remember the Migs flying over my town on their way into Fairford the day before.

  • Real fighter jets bwoooy!

  • Ooh look at that, and who says Russia never copies anyone? Bloody ruskies and chinese copy everyone and don't pay a licence fee.

  • @Cyberwwwizard Russia did copy a lot but its said that you give designers the same specifications and they come up with something similar ie Concorde and Concordski...I believe the Bear and Bison were derivatives of the B29 and suffered from the same overheating problems....true???....I just heard...don't quote me!

  • very nice, but the acrobatic display was a piece of crap...check those of the Blue Angels back in the 80s

  • @wilfredotour2

I like it, nice and raw. These jets were made to kill people, i always found it a little distatefull that they'd start drawing hearts in the sky.

  • At the beginning Raymond Baxter says'Opportunities were missed....this was a SENSATIONAL AEROPLANE'....somebody somewhere should have been hung up by the balls' The lightning caught up to concorde from astern flat out and 'bounced 'a U2 at 80.000 ft when it was tested ( Its ceiling was 100.000 ft) and it could break the sound barrier in an 80' climb.....shhhhh..don't tell anyone....we're British you see!

  • @tony00165

    Well said.

  • Nice...the Lightning AND the MiG together! I like it! I always noticed that the two were very similar to each other.

  • Taszári pilóták !!

  • A very good short movie about the Hungarian MiG-21's

  • Man, those afterburner rings are awesome, I love the 21s - as most fellow Hungarian aviation aficionados do.

This formation is simply legendary... it's a pity it didn't last longer. And Cápeti ("Sharky" - named after one of the characters from the animated series "Sharky and George) is simply the coolest Fishbed ever. :-)

  • 1:10-nél és 1:59-nél látható a "CsR" üzemmód, ami a MiG-21bisz-ek sajátossága. Az R-25-ös hajtóművek kapcsolásonként max 1-1 percig használható rendkívüli üzemmódja, ami a maximális utánégetésen túli extra tolóerőnövelés volt, hála az NR-44-es pótbetápszivattyúnak.

  • Szia!

  • FOREVER HUNGARIAN SKY HUSSARS!!!

  • Great clip - the Lightning and Raymond Baxter!
