Top review. Helped me make my mind up. After owning a Tom Tom unit many moons ago I thought I would give the Co-pilot a go for my iPhone. Great app. Actually prefer it over Tom Tom. Many thank, Jason.
Thanks for a great review. I was debating between Tom Tom & Copilot, but your review confirmed what I've suspected, Copilot is the better product. I will definitely be getting this app! You have a beautiful Scottish accent. :)
hi i have a blocked/ barred iphone 3gs i found on the train. please dont ask me to return it because i actually cant. the language was in some foreign european so i had to whip it. ANYWAY. i want to buy the co pilot ap, but was wondering will it work with the built in gps, because its blocked by the satalite, and i cant get any data plan or internet. WILL IT BASICALLY WORK??? any help would be great.
Tom Tom is by far the best I find it very funny how they gave you it free and you like it ?..... Tom Tom is much better to navigate the menu and almost all of the point you say this has over the Tom Tom is rubbish as my Tom Tom has them? I appreciate your honesty to say it was from them but hay Tom Tom is more expensive but for a reason .
i have the tom tom app and plays through my car speakers via bluetooth, its good that it interrupts my music which i can also scroll through tracks, does the co-pilot do this aswell?
That abc keyboard is bloody AWFUL! What is the matter with a standard qwerty keyboard which everybody can use and type fluently with?! This has completely put me off this app now and I'm not going to buy it. I'll stick with Google Navigation.
ive got both tom tom and co-pilot when i was using tom tom today the arrow tracker went right of the page what a bag of sxxt!!!ive got both for free and now im in the process of downloading co-pilot and by the looks and simplicity of co-pilot ,CO-PILOT WINS HANDS DOWN ,LIKE U SAY WHAT AN UNUSUALL OUTSTANDING PRICE!!!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD GRAFT LOVE UR VIDEOS AND COMMENTS!!!!!
I'm in the uk but have a trip to Canada planned for Monday 12th April
and wanted to know if I purchase co pilot north America maps from the AppStore for my iPhone and then if I use co pilot when in Canada will it only work with a data connection ?
I will be turning off my data roaming for my trip so don't want to incur any charges for using sat nav
the reason I ask is the latest review on the AppStore says you need to use data when roaming
I have Co-Pilot 7 and you can definitely change the onscreen keyboard to a QWERTY setup so I'm susprised the newer version doesn't have this abilty as well.
There is one or bits I didn't see you go into but I don't know if that's because it's a different version to me.
Not sure if anyone else has discovered this in the latest update, but for some reason the app doesn't remember my 'at turn' turn warning settings when starting or restarting the app. I have to go back in and uncheck and recheck the 'at turn' box for it to register the setting correctly. Does anyone else have this issue?
By the way im using an iphone 3G (latest os) and CoPilot Live 8 version 8.0.0.651 (UK).
I've reset, redownloaded and reinstalled and its still the same...
An interesting question might be: what happen if you are driving and receive a phone call?
That is... after answering, are you able to go back to the navigation software, like Navigon does?
This might be very important if you are travelling and have to do a long phone call; it might be a shame if we have to choose between talking and driving (of course using a headset!).
@jgaryellison The vocal directions in my opinion are better than TomTom's. Copilot is very much better value than tomtom if you are just buying the software for your phone.
If anybody is wondering the app has been updated quite a bit since this review and has actually solved some of the flaws pointed out here. The keyboard is your usual iphone keyboard now so it's dead easy to type in addresses or postcodes.
Oh, a ROUNDABOUT in 50 yards. I could NOT figure out what that symbol was, but I guess in Scotland you go left around a traffic circle. Curious about the traffic, but otherwise, great review, thanks for saving me $75!
Hi mate, brilliant review! been looking best one for 3GS. One question though, I'm thinking of buying live europe cuz I travel quite a bit, does it require Data roaming for it to get a GPS fix? ta
Great video :) I have an iPhone 3GS brought copilot for it I'm well happy but one problem example just say I type a postcode .. Is ther an option wher you can click on the quickest route ??
Very comprehensive review there, enjoyed it! Was hoping you could show us it in action on the road, however i doubt the police would be chuft at holding a camera, a phone amd tryin to drive all at once lol! I reckon this is the satnav im gonna get, ive heard bad things about the tomtom, i dont want to shell out 60 quid and find i dont like it! Love the petrol price checker, awesome :)
On road usage is on its way, should be up tonight or tomorrow. I usually like to give an overview of the features before doing live tests ;). Should be up soon and you'll be notified under your 'subscriptions' box once its gone live ;). I'd recommend you not shelling out 60 notes yet - its not worth it.
i have the same application on my iphone3gs but im really not happy with it because its very late on turnings and it actually tells u to turn after u've past the street! i havent tried the tomtom yet but i think thats wot im gonna have to get...
The petrol thing is brilliant, as is the walking directions. I am going to get it for these 2 things, but use my main TomTom unit for navigation as I feel a dedicated unit will offer a better experience
Dsepite Both these GPS mapping and routing systems. I don't think there are any that actually grab the market firmly emough. there could be so much more done with this addition to this.
Agreed, but it takes time. If you look at the standalone TomTom units - it started off with one model and then soon branched out into different versions/models. As the whole iPhone platform is a new one, developers are still working on it and hopefully by feedback (pos/neg) - they can continue to provide new features.
do they have asia maps? thanks

@buzzman1982 Yes, you can have the music play or have it mute or have it turned to half volume when ever a turn command is spoken.

Thanks for the review!
Can you pinch-zoom on the map?
And I wonder whose maps are more detailed, for example Tomtom's maps are terribly outdated for Ireland(Rep).

Question: Does it give vocal directions? Or do you have to always be looking at it to know when to turn?

Gives vocal directions, like tomtom does.

internet?

It works primarily via a GPS reciever in your phone or an external reciever if you choose to have one.
There is a an internet feature on it but you don't have to use it.
This for version 7 at least.

Great review. I've been trying to make up my mind as to which GPS app to get and as I suspected, this looks like the winner.
I'd love to see it in action in 2D and 3D.
I guess the next thing to look for is the best deal to get it all mounted on the dashboard and plugged in.
Great review, you have a new fan.
