Correct. In this instance, a painting that large benefits aesthetically from the negative spaces. Sometimes large scale paintings are done on three vertical canvases or more. "Water Lillies" was done on multiple canvases for example. Also, the grid offers a nice contrast to the freeformed organic shapes found in a rose.

they are obviously roses (not trying to be rude but it IS fairly obvious that they are) there isn't a point to art except to express yourself so the roses don't have to be red and roses come in many other colors too you know white, yellow, pink and with a little dye in the water you could turn a rose green so really what does it matter? if someone wants to paint a flower green let them if they want to paint a leaf red...well who cares! Its art enjoy how it looks without trying to understand it

he re-arranged the individual blocks of canvas so that it would be like a puzzle. if you painted it all on one canvas with lines across it, you wouldn't be able to do that.

There are many reasons an artist choose the color of an overall piece. I would use green instead for the fact that green is easily and smoother to work over a period of time. Ever try to make a red more/less red? Not as easy as just adding white/black.

Plus was created to be hung on a wall and red is often a powerful overwhelming color at times.

Okay, I don't know why I was thumbed down. Obviously people didn't get what I said. I love this video and the artwork Gus has done, I think it's great. It's beautiful. I would absolutely love to see it in reds as well. And I know art has little ticks to make them stand out and such, the 9 bright green squares are nice, they just aren't for me. Does anyone 100% like every single piece of art they've come across? No. I still love this art, and Gus keep doing what you're doing. Give us more videos!
