this actually worked. i hav a iphone 3g on 3.1.3. after the 30 seconds i didnt get the white screens n it got stuck at waiting for reboot for a few min. i unpluged n reconnented the usb cable n got the white screens. now my phn is jailbroken :)

Change your title to jailbreaking and downgrade 3.1.3 firmware to 3.1.2. Also dont mislead it will not unlock it will only jailbreak. iphones 3g with bband 5.12 will not unlock you will need to downgrade baseband too using fuzzyband after jailbreak then you unlock. Dont give them wrong info you are confusing everyone here.

How do I? I didn't dump my firmware as a file using the Jailbreak tool. What happened was I accidentally uninstalled the Jailbreak tool for 3.1.2 and I couldn't reinstall it back. So I was forced to update to 3.1.3 because of I had to restore my iPod Touch out of Recovery Mode.

you can try downloading the 3.1.2 frimware from another site DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM ITUNES. and then double click on it and it should work. or when using redsn0w do not click on already pwned.
