umm...okay. I'm from Seattle (and I used to live in Los Angelese), and this os NOT bad compared to what i've seen. I went to Vancouver just 3 weeks ago. LA has REALLY bad poverty, crime, drugs, and prostitution in some parts. Seattle is a lot better than LA and it is much cleaner, but it still looks like shit in some places compared to Vancouver in general. Vancouver has the highest standard of living in the world, but of course there WILL be some nasty areas. No city's perfect!
Writing from Amsterdam I can tell you that Vancouver is kind of the same when it comes to junks, drugs, hookers and stuff. It's just part of a normal city these days. Vancouver's got the luck that it's mainly the eastern part of Hastings which is particularly 'trashed'. The rest of downtown is walkable all day and night. Showing this video is just showing one part of a big city, so what's the beef? Just some people and a dark alley? Vancouver is a safe city.

This is quite a pointless video. I just visited Vancouver this summer and it was quite a beatiful city. I stayed Downtown and it was absolutly fine but obviously not that part of downtown. The street people are generally harmless in Vancouver. Crazy mostly, but they are on the street because our court system is ding-dong and we dont spend the money to house those people in mental institiutions or fight the drug trade correctly. vancouver is one of the best cities to live in the world, it's real estate market is booming with new developments announced every month...beautiful architecture, excellent public transportation..it's a city like no other...who gives a shit about east hastings it'll be cleaned up before the olympics i guarantee it

Hastings eastside is the only area in town where the poor, drug addicted and crazies hang out. It is safe to walk the streets. The is know conspiracy theory here. You haven't uncovered something big. that area probably takes up 0.1% of vancouver and maybe 0.001% of the whole greater vancouver district... why don't you make a video a few blocks away from that place in gastown or down granville/robson and then you'll see the REAL vancouver

Vancouver is considerably safe compared to my old home in the L.A County....WHy Dont you try doing this in Inglewood, SOme people would be a little "angry" If they saw you taping them....And in Imperial courts(Housing estate) They have a rule of no cameras..

All major cities have a bad part of town. Yes, Downtown Eastside is the worst part of town.. but it's VERY small compared to the rest of the city. You're really over-exagerating the whole "true real side" thing.

Vancouver is placed on a pedestool setting too high of expectaions for visitors so of course this video seems exaggerated. Vancouver is just a large over-rated ski-town cleaning up for winter 2010, don't think you're not going to see the normality of any city.

The street people are generally harmless in Vancouver. Crazy mostly, but they are on the street because our court system is ding-dong and we dont spend the money to house those people in mental institiutions or fight the drug trade correctly. We spend money on safe-houses for crack whores and addicts which I think only promotes the problem.
