I love this video! Thank you soo much.... You have given me something to actually work with when I am playing guitar.... unfortunately I have to play by myself... but at least if I stick with it... I can learn this riff. and turn it into something really sick! Thank you Axeofcreation!
@Dannyboj875 They're the ones that coined the term but in essence element of the style have been around since the 90s. Any 'math metal' or 'tech metal' band of that time would be considered djent now.
@Dannyboj875 Jens Kidman used that word to describe Meshuggah's sound. It's an onomatopoeia to describe the sound the guitar makes. "Bleed" is a perfect example of said sound.
I use the 2-1-2-1-2 pattern in one of my songs, but I leave a break between groups of the pattern (i.e. I never end up having a group of 4 notes), check it (it's the first riff in this video) /watch?v=k8stL-k5cNM
I like your djent series, man. Part one is particularly gratifying with the simple/embellished juxtaposition. Youve moved me to give that technique a shot. I'll let ya know what I come up with.
@GuitarDudeFromBrunei Awesome, thanks! I'll will be doing more. Let me know if you have any questions or would like me to cover something more specific.
ive just posted a demo of some low tuned metal riffs, it's all made with virtual instruments in FL studio but sounds pretty realistic, have a listen tell me what you think!
Tone is a bit muddy and difficult to hear, but I can definitely hear the rhythm and it's dandy as all hell. It's giving me all kinds of ideas and I gotta record some stuff after work today. Nice lessons, awkward audio recording, but good lessons none the less.
@axeofcreation funny thing is im lost at the "breakdown/explanation of time sig., meters, etc. " until you start playing, then BAM! makes perfect sense to me..more so on the meshuggah lessons...great stuff!!!
@supernaute Thanks! Usually slowly haha. There is usually something about it that will help the memorization. Whether that's a certain grouping or feel. Sometimes it's half of the riff or the ending of the riff. Then once it's comfortable I'll start playing along with the drums. That really locks it in.
What does metallica play? 6-string. The first 5 albums they've created was in E-Standard(what normally a guitar is tuned to, in case you didn't know) St. Anger is in drop C, than back up to E-Standard again for Death Magnetic.
Shall I keep going?
So don't claim something just because "you think" it sounds right. Back up your statements first. And the worst thing is, I don't even listen to Metallica.
They didn't coin the term...and they didn't pioneer it either.
I can back up this proof if you like.
Or better yet look this up yourself.
Djent is the sound when you play an open four chord on a 7-string at a low frequency between tunings of B-flat, A, A-flat, G, and F-sharp, before reaching to a Bass frequency.
I just discovered your channel, really great stuff, really useful, clear, and concise lessons. I was having a bit of writer's block, but your vids have gotten my creative juices flowing once again!
@XENONif Yes Djent has a specific tone that's involved (which I was not trying to achieve nor discuss) BUT it also most definitely has stylistic elements that encompass it's sound thus creating style. Rhythmic chugs is a main contributor to that, which was the focus of this lesson. Saying that Djent is just about "tone" doesn't give credit to some of the musical complexities that can be found within the style.
@XENONif Actually bro, and I don't mean to sound like a jerk or anything, but djent is considered a genre of its own. The name was given to it due its specific tone and style of the guitars creating a "djenty" sound and it became its own unique genre. You can google it or wikipedia it. You'll get all the information you'll want on it.
awesome videos man! you should go over groups of 3 numbers played over and over again in 4/4. like 5 4 2 in veil of maya song its not safe to swim today @ 0:43. (sorry if this doesn't make since my theory is horrible)

The thing is that this is a rhythm lesson about chugging. djent is not a genre, it's a tone and you really don't have a djenty tone.
