Some statistics show that it even has a higher GDP per capita than the UK. What does that say about Taiwan. However, Brazil I would say, IS second world. It's not just about the money anyway, it's about education, infrastructure, distribution of wealth, healthcare and many other factors that Asian countries are not managing at the moment....these countries include India.

You will also find that the GINI coefficient is greater in Taiwan is greater, which shows a lesser equal distribution in wealth. This would suggest that true nominal GDP is actually lower still in comparison to the UK.
So to end, what we can see is that the UK is a 1st world country and Taiwan, though developed to a higher rate than India and perhaps even considered an MEDC is still an NIC (newly industrialised country)....oh I forgot to tell you I did geography.

But when you divide that by the number of people we have, that gives an indication of the income that people have in our country which turns out to be very low compared to all these countries you speak of which India is "richer" than. Although I get reassured every now and then, I really doubt whether I will see India as a first world country during my lifetime (I am 16 and I have gotten a life expectancy of 81.9 years). I do not think that my countrymen have that forward looking mentality. We seem to be happy with the little bubble that we live in rather than pursue radical change. Some statistics show that it even has a higher GDP per capita than the UK. What does that say about Taiwan. However, Brazil I would say, IS second world. @shree711 No, there aren't any statistics that would suggest that Taiwan has a higher GDP per capita than the UK. It has 23,000,000 population and would therefore need to be churning out close to $1 trillion a year, but manages only $430 billion.
It's not just about the money anyway, it's about education, infrastructure, distribution of wealth, healthcare and many other factors that Asian countries are not managing at the moment....these countries include India.

Secondly, go back and read the figures again. Nowhere does $37,831 come into Taiwan's equation. Nominal GDP i.e. the money made is $18,300 in Taiwan and $39,604 in the UK. Like I said, in order for Taiwan to be on par it's GDP would have to be double. It isn't.
Yes India is far behind Taiwan, but I've got news for you, Taiwan is far behind the UK.

The buying more for your buck is called PPP (Price purchasing Parity) and yes, Taiwan has $37,000 and something for that that but as for quality of living? No Taiwan does not beat the UK in any way shape or form. Things are cheaper, but conditions are poorer, education is poorer, the healthcare is poorer.
I'm not obsessed with Taiwan, Taiwan was a comparison that you brought up. Taiwan is listed as an NIC, mainly because it is. UK is an MEDC.

Democracy is good but lot of reforms have to take place in the way in which Indian government functions. Furthermore, average living standards in Mumbai exceed those of Switzerland. Mumbai at night is more beautiful than Paris or Shanghai. Clearly, no other city in this world, can beat Mumbai.
