Dear Hal - i see a lot of daylight for you here! you really made this "new." The quotes you chose on your homepage say it all. Louis Armstrong and Frederic Chopin thought the same way.... just like your cool vid. Thanks!
never heard a version like this before. very classy rendition of the working man song. I heard this song on "Joe Versus the Volcano" when I was a kid. I'm curious to look up the earliest version i can find on youtube.
@MTWalker12 Yeah Eric Burdon had a great rendition of this song. BTW, you might like my freestyle interpretation of House of the Rising Sun, another Eric Burdon hit. Let me know what you think. It's heavily stylized.
Thanks for your comment. Listening to your great playing is inspiring too, especially the blues, which I hope to master some day. I like the photographic wallpaper on your YT homepage. Be well.
Congrats. Settings I selected on the YPG 625 were style 57 Jazz Club, MDB 001 Alv Fever, Dual = On, Harmony = On, and then you can pick the voices you like best. Enjoy! Check out my "Gershwin collides with Withers" song on the Roland Fantom X I recently got. I was trying for a smooth jazz flavor.
I am buying the YPG 635 on Thursday and CAN'T WAIT! Have you had any problems with it? I bought a higher end Clavinova in 2000 for like almost $6K and this instrument seems just as capable if not more! I just want to know dependability.........
I personally had zero problems with the YPG. However, I have seen a couple of online comments about speaker rattle (which I never experienced). It's a terrific keyboard and has been completely dependable. My suggestion is, as soon as you get it, crank it up to the highest volume you will ever need to make sure it does not have such an issue. Good luck. I'd recommend a Yamaha 5 year extended warranty. It's cheap and would give you greater confidence. Good luck .
Sorry I haven't played this Casio. It's much lower priced so you have to wonder about the quality and features comparison. Check that it has the minimal polyphony and features you personally need. Listen to its sound through a good set of headphones (the onboard speakers never do these justice) and see if you like what you hear. I think Yamaha sound quality is outstanding. Think about the last pianists you saw on stage. Were they more likely to play Yamaha or Casio? Good luck.
The one you see me playing in the video is the YPG 625 which, depending on where and how it's marketed, is designated as GX-620 DGX-520 DGX520 YPG-525 DGX525. This model has now been replaced by the YPG 635 with twice the polyphony (32 to 64). Otherwise all these models are virtaully the same. They're all great values for the cost, if they have what you're looking for. Their sound and features, IMHO, are excelletn.
DGX 620 is same as the YPG 625 you see me playing in the video. DGX 630 will be the same as the newer YPG 635 which offers the possibility of adding the 3 pedal concert piano option (which I don't need and most don't). And the DGX 630 has double the polyphony (64 vs 32) which I do prefer for my kind of playing where I combine a lot of different voices at once. Check out my composition "Close Encounters of the 3rd kind" to see what you can do with the DGX 620 even with only 32 polyphony.
I just got the ypg-635 about 2 weeks ago and still getting used to it but it's definitely a great keyboard. i'll try to post some vids of my playing, although i only play by ear.
That was sweet! What model of YPG is that? Just 'cause I was thinking of getting one pretty soon and was wondering if you recommended this as it sounds great with a good player.
Thanks for your kind comment. This is the Yamaha YPG-625. I really like the voices and rhythm/percussion options. My top priorities were 88 weighted keys, good realisitic voices and adequate rhythm options and affordability. Check out my new song "Homage to E.T." and my stylized "House of the Rising Sun" to see more of this keyboard's varied sounds and effects. Let me know what you think of those tunes and any others I have up by posting and rating. Thanks.
Thanks for the info man, I'll certainly be checking out some more of your videos. You've inspired me to get this keyboard. Keep up the good work! *****
By having a keyboard that does so much, especially with the full 88 keys, then I don't feel limited by the keyboard. Then I'm only limited by my own playing ability. Having such a nice instrument with such a wide range of options makes it more motivating to play and learn.
Thanks again for your support and the 5 star ratings. Now that I have "International recognition" from Norway, I'll have come up with something new for next weekend.
I enjoyed this very much - good job and very relaxing
thx

I think of buying DGX 620 or DGX 630. What is the difference between them? Is there a sense in buying DGX 630 which is about 500$ more expensive?
