  • What strings do you use?

  • I enjoyed this video.

  • thanks stifler

  • Fantastic video!

  • i love that guitar!!

  • steve stifler!

  • I love you even more cause your aussie like me!

  • so badass

  • Does anyone know what notes he is hitting at 7:31? I cant seem to figure it out...

  • @mcease

Yeah, I don't know either, but it is awesome.

  • @mcease OMG LOL its 7 –bend on the G string, 5 on the B, 5 on the E, 8-bend on the B

    \ii/^_^\ii/

  • damnit my high e broke lmao

  • @34gl30fd00m Get your guitar checked out, and what strings do you use mate? I had issues with 'sharp' frets before. Haha sharp. Me hilarious.

  • howdy doodar!

  • Great methode, cool stuff!

  • seagulls..:D

  • too much words

  • thanks Justin!

  • INIESTA

  • What year is this beautiful telecaster?

  • Just got rid of my guitar teacher...jk, I would but he's a cool guy and I don't feel like effing up his salary xD

  • Isn't what you call "rolling" technically known as legato?

  • did you knew YOU HAVE A PINKY... USE IT!!

  • @MrSuicideMan Why would you use your weakest finger for a bend when you are able to use your ring finger instead?

  • @MrSuicideMan you can use your pinkey if you want. you can also use your middle finger if you want. why are you yelling, dude?

  • @sgenn99 cuz no1 is using their pinky. and i think people who are learning should pay attention to the pinky.

IF in this toturial videos the pinky isn't used the beginers won't use it either...

this will affect their techinique in the near future..

  • @MrSuicideMan i know plenty of guitarists that don't use their pinky-at least not all the time. justin did say you can use your pinky if you like, didn't he? ultimately, it's up to the player to decide what works best. i agree that beginners should know that they have a pinky and how to use it, but i really think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill

  • @sgenn99 yeah i exagerated a bit.. but lots and lots of ppl that i know who play guitar don't use the pinky.. when they try to do fast things and things you need to strech, well they just can't do it because they need the pinky..

but yeah im "making a mountain out of a hole hill", sorry about the rage back there..

  • @MrSuicideMan I agree that beginners should learn how to use their pinky. Playing full scales and arpeggios the pinky is a must but some of the best pentatonic players use their pinky very little. Watch Clapton rip through a solo with just 3 fingers.

  • @DExxxxxTR true true..

  • too much explanation in a 3 note lick.... mouth is faster than hands..

  • second lick sounds cooler if you dont bend up as much and also play the 5th fret on the B string as well. sounds dirtier and more "hendrix-y" thumbs up if u agree

  • thanks for the vid, and my new 5 string guitar

  • @Bmatre11 lmao xD get your self some earnie ball super slinkies, best for bends ;)

  • @MrSeamus110 I use Ernie Ball on all my guitars,

  • If i use one finger per fret instead of 3 as i saw in the video is slower than that?

  • Seagulls! They fun!

  • what does transcribing mean?

  • @lukpas93 instead of reading tabs, you make the tabs yourself from listening to music.

  • I played the first lick to many times and my string broke lol

  • @dannyboii102 This sucks.. Mine broke 10 seconds after I read your comment... :P

  • @dannyboii102 Are you saying you broke a G string fingering A minor?

  • @RockySeven7 For some reason that took me a while to get, hahahaha. Good one.

  • @RockySeven7 wrote out and angry thing then deleted cause im stupid and didnt get the joke.

  • @coolcatjerk lol :)

  • @RockySeven7 hahahahahahahahahahaaa!!!!! That's too funny_!!!

  • @RockySeven7 thats actually really fucking funny hahahaha, thanks man!

  • @RockySeven7 the guys is a complete C

  • @dannyboii102

same thing just happened to me :/

  • @dannyboii102 me too:(

  • Man your videos are awesome, Justin. They help me a ton!

  • Great lesson!!! Love it!! Super useful... But. One question - wtf with the ending?

  • Thanks for this justin...I'm just vgetting started with blues but on an acoustic guitar. Are there any tricks unique to playing blues on acoustic?

  • Justin what strings are you using? They're so elastic id need some of those :D

  • @stephenc90 if your strings are new, try stretching them by stretching them a bit, but don't break them

  • @GrimReaper1305 yo dawg

  • he really is my favorite teacher...hands down. thank you Justin

  • Cool stuff Justin! Great at explaining. You have a gift for teaching.

  • i started playing guitar 3 years ago and 90% of everything I know about guitar playing is thanks to Justin

  • NEW basic lead technique lesson on our site. More to follow. Blues box lesson based on ZZ Top shuffle.

  • I just exploded my first eletric guitar string ever practicing the first bend. Thanks Justin!

  • good job

  • wow! been playing 6 years and this is by far the best explanation of licks and bends ever. i read the books, talked to pros, but never had it explained this clearly. i guess advanced players take bends and technique for granted.

  • ta yeule

  • @igloupe Rude comments aren't neccessary.

  • Great Vid

  • A good blues ABC, very helpful, cheers mate.

  • Though, as far as notes go, I had the idea as you introduced them. It was nice to get a few more tips I don't usually think about in the more detailed section of the video. In other words, it's nice to get some "one on one" detailed advice on some common licks.. these kind of videos are worth something.

  • Very awesome videos. I get great knowledge just by watching them. I'm sure alot of people reeally appreciate your work! (:

  • I broke my High e String attempting the bend on the very 1st lick.... LOL.. Thanks Justin~~~~~ LOL

  • Really really detailed lesson, thanks! Especially the part on muting the bend, I used to miss out on that.

Oh and the seagull sound, LOL!

  • Justin, i've been watching your videos for a week or 2 now and I am so impressed by the clean way you play and the level of your instructional videos.. I'm playing about 4 months now and in 1 week you've made me progress so FAST in blues (the scales/speed etc)!

Might even buy your DVD after i'm familiar with bending and when I can play the scales cleanly @ 160x2BPM. Allready at 150x1 BPM in a week, following your website!

    Thanks man.. thanks! :D

  • can you please say what sings your playing on? its kinda hard to see

  • duude..justin .. i broke the last string 2 times for the first lick bend

  • @stephenc90 - your guitar may need a setup. Personally i suggest using Ernie Ball strings. They hold up really to extreme bending. Good luck.

  • Thank you!!

  • gooood:)))

  • F5 to eraser the adds

  • FREE GUITAR STRINGS! ...only at AllBritishAmps . c o m ...no strings attached ...for reals....Happy TG!

  • I dont like blues! but i feel like i have to learn this stuff to get a good start on solos

  • @andow7 of course you dont like blues.. youre a little metal-bratt who wants to be a guitar hero

  • @stephenc90 OO good one looks like theres a comedian on this page, who said I liked metal, i dont even listen to that shit

  • In Soviet Russia guitar plays YOU!!

  • Hello justin.. I wanna say thanks a lot for uploading all these lessons.. they are great!!!

i can watch all you video except this one(Blues Lead Guitar #3)... i wonder why?? I hope you can help me here...

  • I Never bend the High E and for this reason...

    Did It 4 times... SNAP.

  • Switch to those precious DR-strings that Justin uses... and so do i=) (well i broke a couple of them when i was stringing my guitar for the first time, because i went ape when testing their flexibility. but haven't broke one since;) Always buy 2 sets!

  • @0rabidproductions0 Die!!!!!!!!

  • Justin Sandercoe is our justin beiber

  • he is the best guitar tutor !

  • so... either my strings are too rough? or i am just not experienced enough for lick #1.. V_V"

  • wow I sound nothing like him when I do it

  • this bend killed my e string -.-

  • @KingRodriques Go play .09!

  • yea so umm... i was initially skeptical about watching a movie about how to bend considering i go to music school...then i realized i've been bending wrong my entire life. i guess that'll teach me! i just spent the last hour going through your movies and can't thank you enough. you got a true talent man. new subscriber right here :).

  • great!!

  • I'm working my way thru your videos here. Awesome job mate, superb material and very well presented. Very easy to understand :) Kudos!

  • I've been playing guitar for about 4-5 years inconsistently and i haven't played often of late so i lost my callouses. but after watching this video I've been soloing to so many songs that i woke up with dime-sized blisters on my first second and third fingers. Justin you rule!

  • blues is so awesome...i mus learn it!!!

  • Hehe ha .. I know i will never be some great musician, but just to be able to walk in somebodys home, pick up that old guitar in the corner, and blast out these riffs is way cool. Thank You Sir Justin !

  • Jeez, this is tough on the acoustic...

  • I'm gonna learn blues!!

  • By the way, 2nd and 3rd licks are used by David Gilmour in famous Pink Floyd songs :-)

The 2nd is at the beginning of Money solo, and the 3rd is at the beginning of Another Brick in The Wall solo.

  • @sevrjukov Point Please?

  • @GherkinGob No point, only that learning licks is great, because you can learn solos more easily.

  • I'm using an acoustic, but i feel like I'm about to break one of my strings, and I still can't really get the right note. Is it possible to bend acoustics, or is this just a electric guitar thing?

  • @urmomsdadiscool i play a little of both and when i do acoustic solos i have to slide to where i want because acoustic bending just doesnt sound right to me

  • @urmomsdadiscool You can bend on an acoustic, but just take care with how far you bend, because acoustic strings have a much higher tension= easier to break.

  • fuckin love this guy

  • brilliant. brilliant. brilliant. again.

  • good bas

  • can i do these on acoustic

  • yep yet another fave !!!

    stay blessed my friend !

  • justin your lessons are massively helpful, thank you =)

just want to ask if its possible to bend on an acoustic guitar? for the first lick, i only can bend the note up by a semitone instead of a full tone. must i use an electric?

  • @StitchBeatbox it IS possible to bend on an acoustic, but its much harder than bending on an electric. Even within acoustics, some are easier to bend on. Dont worry, as long as you keep practicing proper technique, you'll bend just fine on your or a more bend-friendly guitar :D

  • @HyperDranzer123 thanks alot hyperdranzer. =) but bending it up a full tone seems nearly impossible even with full strength. the max i can go is a semitone =)

  • @StitchBeatbox try it with down a half-step , its eaiser to bend that way. Hendrix used to use it for that reason, especially on acoustics.

  • @Abz90L hey thanks so much for the advice =)

  • helpful, easy to understand and thanks so much for including bending technique (cause I've been doing it wrong... exactly the way you described it)

  • I love you

  • Comment removed

  • on lick 3, you bend the last note on the 8th fret and then add vibrato to it. i watched your video on vibrato, but i still haven't figured out how u are adding vibrato to a note that is being bent. are you mostly just shaking the guitar with your left hand to achieve this?

    u rock!

  • @erjkism Try giving vibrato from your elbow and wrist and focus on your first finger.

It's like a normal vibrato actually. Think as you are vibrating 5th or 4th strings.

In the beginning it'll be a small vibrato but it grows in hours to an exceptable degree.

By the way i'm a 33 year old beginner (playing for 10 months now) so dont take my word. Examine Justin's video. That guy is great. I love him :)

  • not a pull-off. its a FLICK-off

  • great!!! goallllll!

  • i noticed that blues licks 1 and 3 are in ACDC's black ice album, in rock n roll train. though they are just slightly changed. By the way, i think the videos are great, i never really tried to play lead guitar but im starting to get used to it.

  • After many years of playing golf, I got so frustrated that I told my playing partner that I was going to give it up and buy an electric guitar. He thought I was joking, but that afternoon I came home with a nice second hand Yamaha.

I've been at it for five days now and I've got to say that Justin has convinced me that guitar is a whole lot more fun than golf! Thanks man!

  • Justin, you are the real deal Bro. Nice lessons and very easy to follow along. You make the complicated easier. So keep up the fine work. We're very Grateful for all of your hard work.

  • Where are you from? Ireland?

  • WOW bro, u explain things so simple!! Thanks!!

  • i cant bend that easily on my guitar. nice tutorial as always!!

  • "That's just a way to get really crap technique." <-- Why he's a better teacher than anyone else. Honesty ftw.

  • Justin, I have been watching many different videos on You tube about how to play the blues, so far you're the best teacher i have met. please keep up the good work.

    A happy dutchie.

  • I'm having trouble doing the bend. I'm trying to use my hand to do the motion but I end up just moving my fingers up. I'm not too worried, I just started guitar and I look forward to improving at technique. I'm assuming it just takes alot of practice, also I'm learning an acoustic so I know thats making it harder.

  • what the hell is a flick off? giving the middle finger?

  • Justin you really do give away lots of coll free stuff, respect!

for those of you who don't already know you can get free blues lessons at

    bluesguitarmastery(dot)co(dot)uk

i checked it out and F'in love it

    its weird,totally free!

  • didnt know I was doing wrong bends and vibratoes... thanks..

  • Justin...you're my guitar "hero!" Ta!!

  • very good. thanks

  • The best

  • dude let him talk ! he has alot to share so no problem at all " mate "

  • Please watch my videos. Not a lot of people watch them and I really want peoples opinions.

  • Justin. please put the tabs back on your website!!!!!

  • You have a premium telecaster there, butterscotch baja. :D very nice.

  • good job. God bless.

  • nope

  • I'm a bass player who's been trying to understand guitar leads FOR A LONG TIME....

Finally I get it! This is great! Thankyou! Well done!

  • Great lessons! Keep it going!

  • I broke the first string of my eguitar bending it!!

  • ahhaha, it's so annoying, buying a pack of strings just because of a broken e string :(

  • I've been playing for over 30 years. This explanation is expertly done. First rate.

The nuances that one picks up after years of playing, subconsciously, are explained here. Man, what a time saver! Where were you in 1974 when I was learning to play?

Justin. I'd shake your hand if I could. Excellent job.

  • they're all quite hendrixy

  • Justin you are the man. Really appreciate the technique videos too. Can you do a close up on the palm muting sometime?

  • Nice work!

  • Agreed...haven't played in a while so I've got some good blisters from those bends but loving it. Thanks!

  • I normally only play acoustic and almost never get sore fingers anymore. These thing electric guitar strings are slicing through my finger tips! It kind of feels good to put the pain back into guitar playing, hahah.

I am stuck on the 4th lick, I am finding it hard to get my index finger in place for the pull off.

  • Broke my lowest string With this one xD

  • puré il fait comment pour avoir ce son ?????

  • good on ya mate for helpin an old tired yank learn some new tricks,,, thanks...

(nice proper new blisters off these bends :)

  • Man, that tele sounds beautiful!

  • I really enjoy your lessons. The only thing that's missing in my opinion is a little bit of extra theory. I think it would be helpful to a lot of students if you explained what kind of arpeggios you're playing, why a lick ends or begins on a certain note, etc. Just to help those watching improve their understanding of what they are playing, so that they can apply that knowledge to other things in the future. Cheers!

  • it is physically impossible to bend my strings a full tone. Time for new strings, or stonger fingers

  • Keep at it, don't injure yourself, but keep trying and you'll soon find the impossible to be quite manageable! ;)

  • When you get strings, get Xtra lite, or Ultra lite strings. These are what most lead players use. Makes it very very easy!

  • do they break easily?

  • No. Not if you stretch them good when you put them on. I can send you a message on how to do it, if you want. ONce you stretch them, they'll take quite a bit of abuse!

  • thanks a lot, Justin. Superb, that is the stuff!

  • even though i have been playing guitar for almost two years now. its always nice to come back and learn/ relearn the lessons on here. i have been watching since i started.

your pretty much the biggest legend in kew mate. cheers

  • Justin I am new to playinging and just watching your style of playing and breaking everything down where it clear what one is going to do and how . and to inprovise etc. Your teaching skills are far above the many others I seen on youtube. It is very interesting just to whtch you teach, viewers like like myself learning easy to remember and do many things. Many will benefit quickly to play from viewing lessons.

  • one of the best teachers i've ever seen on youtube, thanks so much justin you helped me out alot i dont think i've ever learned so much about guitar in one day THANKS!!!!

  • ok, hearing justin talk is WAY better than whatever the hell it is YOU want why don't u go watch someone elses videos if ur so unappreciative. JUSTIN WE LOVE YOU
