Boxing died down after Tyson retired. Its not so much the sport itself, but the people in it that determines popularity. Tyson was a one of a kind athlete that put people in seats win or lose, and generated controversy and interest with his antics outside the ring.. Fedor is the new Mike Tyson.. he's got the same type of mystique about him (but without the outside controversy) that makes people want to watch him fight and watch the sport in general.

Boxers have to worry about injury, that's for sure, but the injury potential in MMA is much, much greater. The main issue, as you pointed out, is that boxing referees let people get the shit kicked out of them still box just because they have learned to train their bodies to get up immediately after being knocked down, raise their hands up and walk forward. The refereeing in MMA, and their vigilance of keeping fighters safe as much as they can, are what make MMA appear "less dangerous" overall.

a lot of people here don't realize that styles make fights. Chuck was owned twice by Rampage cause Rampage can handle his standup very well and so far has had an edge in conditioning. Vanderlay has a much faster pace which seemed to bother Rampage but no so much Chuck (who beat him). Look at Shogun, fast paced fighter who beat up on Rampage. You cant say if guy A beat guy B who Beat guy C that Guy A can beat Guy C. It all depends on how the strengths and weaknesses match up.

Boxing died down after Tyson retired. Its not so much the sport itself, but the people in it that determines popularity. Tyson was a one of a kind athlete that put people in seats win or lose, and generated controversy and interest with his antics outside the ring.. Fedor is the new Mike Tyson.. he's got the same type of mystique about him (but without the outside controversy) that makes people want to watch him fight and watch the sport in general.

the boxing in MMA is a slug fest. Boxing in boxing is an art. However, I am and have been before the big hype an MMA fan beacuse I practice martial arts. Both sports take extreme skill, but because boxing has been big for so much longer they have more competition therefore requires more skill to suceed in the boxing world. MMA, however is so fast growing that soon it will take jsut as much skill to suicceed in MMA world

Boxers have to worry about injury, that's for sure, but the injury potential in MMA is much, much greater. The main issue, as you pointed out, is that boxing referees let people get the shit kicked out of them still box just because they have learned to train their bodies to get up immediately after being knocked down, raise their hands up and walk forward. The refereeing in MMA, and their vigilance of keeping fighters safe as much as they can, are what make MMA appear "less dangerous" overall.

Much respect for W.Silva but I think that if he fought Rampage again, Rampage would beat him bad. Rampage is has improved every UFC fight; on the other hand, IMO the years and wars have caught up to Silva. I hope that Silva gets some props and UFC opens up some opportunities for him on their new Espanol network. He's a legend. a lot of people here don't realize that styles make fights. Chuck was owned twice by Rampage cause Rampage can handle his standup very well and so far has had an edge in conditioning. Vanderlay has a much faster pace which seemed to bother Rampage but no so much Chuck (who beat him). Look at Shogun, fast paced fighter who beat up on Rampage. You cant say if guy A beat guy B who Beat guy C that Guy A can beat Guy C. It all depends on how the strengths and weaknesses match up.
