I found the NIMBY web sites when I was searching for information about Wisconsin Public Service coal trains. Now when I intentionally look for them, they are not among the first choices. Coal trains might occasionally block grade crossings, but the unit trains do not have the anount of slack action as a mixed freight trains when starting and stopping.
Look up Coal Train Wisconsin using a search engine and you will see a few NIMBY type web sites.
In Michigan's L.P. and Indiana the coal trains from Powder River Basin are mostly comprised of Trall Car, Trinty, and Johnstown/FreightCar America coal gondolas and hoppers.
Atlas makes a great model of the WPSX ACF Coalveyor Coal Gondolas if anybody would like to create a unit coal train in person.
Curious, why specifically ban coal trains in Wisconsin? There are only 2 operating nuclear power plants in Wisconsin that I am aware of, where will the electricity come from if coal can't be delievered to all the power plants and manufacturing facilities? by truck? are you kidding me? it would take at least 300 semi trucks to equal one unit train.... something seems amiss!!! :D
Notice that many of the coal gondolas are ACF Coalveyors. ACF Coalveyor Gondolas are very rare east of Chicago.
Some people have websites dedicated to banning Coal Trains in Wisconsin. That seems unlikely, but who knows if such a law could be put into effect, even for a year.
Two things: Junction City is NW of Chicago in north central Wisconsin.
The other: if you note all of the cars have WPSX reporting marks, indicating ownership by Wisconsin Public Service Corp, who has a large coal fired powerplant in Weston, WI, just south of Wausau. This train is a very common occurance, just a new routing. Excellent video and capturing the sound of the wheel flanges at work through the tight curve (the squealing you hear).
Dont exclude their Large JP Pulliam powerplant in Green Bay receiving 3 bay hoppers. The Bethgons here are of course going to weston to be tipped, sometimes they send the Green Bay bound trains to Weston to be tipped because they are froze solid.
