John Barrowman is an icon for every gay man or woman out there. He's successful without having to hide his sexuality, he's happy, and he's in a loving relationship. All the things that a lot of straight people deny us or don't think it's possible for us to have. I can honestly say that he makes me proud to be a lesbian.

I don't think he did this for himself, I think he did it for the thousands of LGBT people out there (myself included) who are curious as to why they are the way they are. It's just psychology.
Personally I don't get why he had to go searching for what makes people gay. It's like he was searching for a reason for it to be ok and that he wsn't confident enouigh in himself about his sexuality. He doesn't need a reason, biological or environmental. If people weren't so prejudice in this day and age he probably wouldn't have had to search for a meaning. He should just be. He's an amazing person and sexuality shouldn't be something thats questioned or ridiculed. Love is love isn't it?
the better we understand the biology of it the better we can approach individuals clinically, therapeutically, holistically, not to mention it furthers understanding. the more scientific evidence we find, the less prejudice can exist and the less people's overcompensation to oppression as well. It's a whole healthier for society IMO, nothing wrong with that.
Coming from that perspective I agree. I guess if scientists can prove that gay is just as normal as being straight form a genetic point of view then its worth looking into to stop people from having such problems with it. It just angers me so much that it has to be proven its 'normal' just to stop such ignorant narrow minded people being prejudice!
I agree but that is the reality. I think it's the nature of all living things to be prejudiced against the unknown, it's a survival mechanism. The more we understand the world the better. Even after scientific evidence, though, people can still discriminate. I don't think scientists are trying to equate gay with straight, that necessitates a bias. They are simply trying to find out the biological basis for sexual orientation.

I absolutely adore these two, they make such a cute couple! It was also a really interesting show for me as I was able to use a lot of the research shown here for my A-level Psychology finals!
I always thought that it was a chromosone that made people gay but now I know it's something that happens in the womb, well you know what they say you learn something new everyday. Either way though, I knew it weren't environmental nor by choice which is why I can't stand homophobics and which is why i'm glad this programme was made it might open some eyes.

Ive known it was biological when I saw my 3yr old was gay; OF COURSE it was nothing sexual @ that age Just certain mannerisms his older brother didnt have & the giant crush on Leo in Titanic was a huge give away, maybe not so much if he didn't have an older brother for me to tell the difference He's 15 now while its a struggle to be gay in the US south, its easier on him that he didnt lose any friends or family when he 'came out' to everyone beyond immediate family.
I know - that's why as a family we support him. We couldn't imagine him any other way and we love him for who he is as much of a cliche as that sounds! Yes everything has it's time but I HATE how GLBT are treated in the States. Case in point Senator Foxx calling the hate crime murder of Matt Sheppard a hoax to avoid getting the law changed - google 4 full info it's really tragic and honestly makes me tear up thinking about what they did to him.
on edit: It was **Congress** critter Foxx that said Mr Sheppards death was done in the act of a robbery and not a hate crime. Which is false going by the WY police records and statements taken at the time.
My impression is that Brits are more open-minded about gay people than Americans. And most of John's American fans are probably Doctor Who/Torchwood fans. I know DW doesn't have any sexual kind of content, but there's a lot of love involved (like Jack kissing the Doctor in series 1), so it tends to require more open-mindedness. I don't know how well-known the two women are in Britain, so they might not have as big of a non-homophobic audience.
I think that most of gay couples supporters are women, they would better accept the male couples than female and if the couple as cute as John and Scott. Women knew they gay, but they still handsome males and many women still could be attracted to them gay or not.
But straight women are not attract to women and that's why female gay couples get less positive comments than male ones. Males also don't like some lesbians Elene and Rosie O'Donnell type. They feel competition and don't like it.

Personally I don't get why he had to go searching for what makes people gay. It's like he was searching for a reason for it to be ok and that he wsn't confident enouigh in himself about his sexuality. He doesn't need a reason, biological or environmental. If people weren't so prejudice in this day and age he probably wouldn't have had to search for a meaning. He should just be. He's an amazing person and sexuality shouldn't be something thats questioned or ridiculed. Love is love isn't it?

the better we understand the biology of it the better we can approach individuals clinically, therapeutically, holistically, not to mention it furthers understanding. the more scientific evidence we find, the less prejudice can exist and the less people's overcompensation to oppression as well. It's a whole healthier for society IMO, nothing wrong with that.

Coming from that perspective I agree. I guess if scientists can prove that gay is just as normal as being straight form a genetic point of view then its worth looking into to stop people from having such problems with it. It just angers me so much that it has to be proven its 'normal' just to stop such ignorant narrow minded people being prejudice!

I agree but that is the reality. I think it's the nature of all living things to be prejudiced against the unknown, it's a survival mechanism. The more we understand the world the better. Even after scientific evidence, though, people can still discriminate. I don't think scientists are trying to equate gay with straight, that necessitates a bias. They are simply trying to find out the biological basis for sexual orientation.

(continued) ppl just live with ppls differences. It might only be a matter of time before homosexuality becomes as widely accepted as black ppl and white ppl. It sickens me the way some ppl believe gays should be treated. Ppl are so edgy about racism and xenophobia yet they turn a blind eye to sexual discrimination and homophobia.

I always thought that it was a chromosone that made people gay but now I know it's something that happens in the womb, well you know what they say you learn something new everyday. Either way though, I knew it weren't environmental nor by choice which is why I can't stand homophobics and which is why i'm glad this programme was made it might open some eyes.
Moving on to the lovely couple themselves, Scott was so funny in the car and the "love you" bit was so sweet <3

Ive known it was biological when I saw my 3yr old was gay; OF COURSE it was nothing sexual @ that age Just certain mannerisms his older brother didnt have & the giant crush on Leo in Titanic was a huge give away, maybe not so much if he didn't have an older brother for me to tell the difference He's 15 now while its a struggle to be gay in the US south, its easier on him that he didnt lose any friends or family when he 'came out' to everyone beyond immediate family.

I know - that's why as a family we support him. We couldn't imagine him any other way and we love him for who he is as much of a cliche as that sounds! Yes everything has it's time but I HATE how GLBT are treated in the States. Case in point Senator Foxx calling the hate crime murder of Matt Sheppard a hoax to avoid getting the law changed - google 4 full info it's really tragic and honestly makes me tear up thinking about what they did to him.

on edit: It was **Congress** critter Foxx that said Mr Sheppards death was done in the act of a robbery and not a hate crime. Which is false going by the WY police records and statements taken at the time.

My impression is that Brits are more open-minded about gay people than Americans. And most of John's American fans are probably Doctor Who/Torchwood fans. I know DW doesn't have any sexual kind of content, but there's a lot of love involved (like Jack kissing the Doctor in series 1), so it tends to require more open-mindedness. I don't know how well-known the two women are in Britain, so they might not have as big of a non-homophobic audience.

I think it's because we live in a patriarchal society, and so lesbian women are discriminated against more harshly.

I think that most of gay couples supporters are women, they would better accept the male couples than female and if the couple as cute as John and Scott. Women knew they gay, but they still handsome males and many women still could be attracted to them gay or not.
But straight women are not attract to women and that's why female gay couples get less positive comments than male ones. Males also don't like some lesbians Elene and Rosie O'Donnell type. They feel competition and don't like it.
