When I turned 12 I started dying my hair. (I just went into 7th grade) I started off with purple.. it wasn't a lot. Now I'm 14 and my parents are starting to let me do a little bit more. I actually think it's cute, and I think this is the age to play around, she is not going for a job interview she's a little girl. I don't think it's overly sexed like some hair and clothes styles that some young girls are trying to wear. It's just playful.

When I turned 12 I started dying my hair. (I just went into 7th grade) I started off with purple.. it wasn't a lot. Now I'm 14 and my parents are starting to let me do a little bit more. Anyways, my opinion on this is that the teachers were wrong for kicking her out of the class, but maybe the color could been toned down a bit. Maybe her mother could have done something such as a streak or two or bought a hair piece instead. I think the all out color is too much.I totally agree with you though.

I think this is ridiculous! everyone is experimenting with colour in their hair. Though the style was not really needed, its what SHE wanted and it really shouldn't be a problem. Kids find anything distracting these days. And I think they need to learn discipline. What happens when the next distraction comes up? how are they going to deal with it, by sending the next child away....?

OMG, I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!! And yeah the colors are TOO MUCH!!! Growing up in the 90's, I rocked my dookie braids in all kinds of wild styles, but it was never a class interruption and my grades were awesome. The ending had me in STITCHES!!!

I think parents these days (some I should say) are letting their kids grow up too fast. It pisses me off when I hear them say "oh, my baby's growing up too fast" When I hear that, I think to myself, "That's cause you allow them to grow up too fast" Sometimes I wonder, are kids wild and stuff because of their parents? I think so then again, I'm not really sure. But come on, the mom has to have common sense. Kids need to enjoy being kids.

I know this one girl and she started dying her hair in 1ST GRADE! And her mom doesn't even help her dye it. She does it herself. She's dyed it like 15 times over the years...I just, don't think parents should let their kids do that...

i came home from college last week and my little brother who is in 6th grade who goes to a predominantly hispanicand white school tells me there is a new rule at school no hairstyles with hair or colors that are not your own or natural. by natural im sure they do not mean no relaxer. Basically they told them no weaves. In his words, everything the black ppl at school do, theres a new rule against it everyweek. and by everyweek i mean weekly basis hes coming and telling me stuff like this. UGH.

I am the mother of Jakyra Kearse, I feel that people are entitled to their own opinions, but know the whole facts. I sent my daughter to school never knowing I would get a phone call about her hair. I think that the hair style was truly ugly and ghetto. What was she thinking about to put those ridiculous colors in her hair. That was really her mom's fault. It doesn't matter if the girl wants that hairstyle or not. She is the child and her mom is the parent. I say shame on her mom for that. I think the girl should be able to wear her air the way she wants because the purpose of a public school is not only to learn academically but to also grow a tolerance for eccentric people and diversity as well. I mean if they go crazy over a girl who wears colors in her hair, then I wounder what they would do to a openly gay or lesbian couple in the class, and Yes there are gay and lesbian middle schoolers. More and more children are coming out about it at a very young age. Diversity=Tolerance.

I'm a Teacher, there are a lot of characteristics that can go into the decision to kick her out of class, was this a second offense, violation of school dress code, etc. As you said, the hairstyle was wayyy too old for her. She would probably be told to leave the school here too because of her age more than anything else. A highshool student may be expelled after a couple of warnings when it comes to an wild wierd hairstyle. I know for a fact there is a dresscode here (Vancouver Cda) when it comes to wearing 'em lower on your hips, breast cleavage & fragrances.... right fragrances are a no no out of respect to others sitting nearby. I was straight A's through 12 grade..watevaa.. lol But I think that the school was triflin i agree with the mom. She checked the hand book and the teacher didint even know the hand book because she sent the student out. She needs to refresh her memory on that! Lol yeah that hair was a mess!
